Recently, we interviewed Dutchtown High School’s Boys Head Basketball Coach,

Coach Stafford. He acknowledged how confident he is this school year that our

boys basketball student athletes will have a good winning season. Three main

points come from the interview. We asked, what are the three qualities that you

look for in a varsity basketball player student athlete? “I look for a player who is

disciplined, not selfish and will be a team player. I also like working with student

athletes who are respectful to their parents. When a kid is respectful to their

parents, then I know that he will be good sportsmen. I also look for students who

are serious about their craft, self-determined, and who can follow instructions.

Secondly, we asked Coach Stafford what encouraged him to renovate our school

gym that now has a fresh new look? He responded that he asked our illustrious

principal, Mrs. Shaw if he could give the gym a facelift and she agreed whole

heartedly. He said he was so proud that she trusted him and she let him decide on

the design, colors and artwork. If you haven’t seen it since he upgraded the look, it

is a must see! Finally, Coach Stafford responded to the question, who do you look

to, to make big plays? All of my players. I expect all of them to play to their

maximum potential. When teams play us, they better bring their “A” game,

because we will be playing hard basketball!

Varsity Academic Team

Recently, our Varsity Academic Team rocked at the Griffin- RESA Academic meet! As

Academic Team members, some of the best and the brightest students from 17 schools in five

neighboring counties are asked questions from all academic disciplines such as Mythology,

Classic Literature, Ancient and Modern History, Government, Astronomy, Chemistry, etc. They

won three out of three, when they went “Brains to Brains!” against three other high schools! We

are currently ranked 2nd in Henry County at the RESA meets. Please congratulate these sage

DUTCHTOWN HIGH SCHOOL, Hampton, GA

Friday night, it’s Homecoming! The school is roaring with excitement and anticipation for the

big game against the Woodland Wolf Pack. Coach Myers was asked about the Homecoming

Game. He responded by saying that he is anxious to see how the Bulldogs will respond after the

loss last week, especially, a coach’s loss. This will be a test for the players, he says! Bulldog,

Tadarius Burton, a Sophomore Defensive Lineman is ready. He said that his personal goal is to

sack the quarterback and make sure no runningback gets past him in tonight’s game.

Leading up to Homecoming, students enjoyed weeklong activities such as Twin Day, ‘90s

Throwback, Teacher Scavenger Hunt, College Day, and many more themed activities.

Dutchtown has been on fire since the Fox 5 Pep Rally last week. That was a great start to the

Homecoming celebration. To be victorious tonight would seal the deal!

As the Dutchtown Football Team was set to travel to Camden County High School for Friday

night’s game, we got a chance to talk to Quarterback, Kylan Epps. Here is what he had to say.

Kylan Epps, Quarterback

How are things coming along as you get ready to face Camden County High School?

It has been rough preparing for the game. We lost to them last year, but we won’t lose this

year,” says Bulldog Quarterback, Kylan Epps. Coach Myers has worked us hard this week.

How do you think the offensive line is doing as a group?

I think they have made progress. Coach Myers has made us more of a solid team. They will do

well as a group.

What’s going to be different this year?

The seniors’ mindset is different this year. We really want to win this game. That’s very

important to us. Also the team is dedicated to perform to the best of our ability. We have a One

Team mentality, something else that Coach Myers has instilled in the players. We’re ready.

Who are you looking to for big plays tonight?

David Dennis and DJ Montgomery, both Wide Receivers. They both will catch for touchdowns.

We’re going to win!

Welcome to the start of the 2015-2016 school year! Our dedicated faculty and staff

enthusiastically look forward to all of our students having a successful and rewarding year.

There are several new faculty members who bring a wealth of talent and experience and we are

happy to have them with us.

Students, we encourage you to participate in all school activities; academic, extracurricular,

sports, homecoming, plays, tutorials, foreign language functions, volunteer work, community

service and many other happenings at the school. Your high school years should be fun,

exciting, and memorable in a positive way. Your faculty and staff recognize this and take

pleasure working to make all student activities highly engaging, nurturing and safe. However,

we do expect that students will take the responsibility to participate.

Again, we are thrilled and honored to provide the activities to help students have an amazing

2015-2016 School Year! Proud to be a Dutchtown Bulldog!

Head Football Coach Mark Myers, displays all of the attributes of a GREAT Coach. In his

second year at Dutchtown High School, all expectations are that Dutchtown will finish on top,

and that our football athletes will be leaders in the school. A recent interview with Coach Myers

revealed many things about him both personally and professionally. Coach was asked a few

questions and this is what he had to say.

Coach, what is your outlook for the Dutchtown High School Football team this season?

I feel that we are going to be very competitive this year. We have a lot of experience coming

back at all of our skill positions and our seniors have taken

more of a leadership role this season. Much

progress has been made from year one of my tenure. We will

be better offensively because this will be the players second

year running this offense. Defensively, we lost a lot of

players but we still return with a bunch of guys who made

some plays for us last season. Once again I think the defense

will be the heart of our team.

How do you feel about the team’s performance last week in the scrimmage versus Riverdale?

We played very well. We came back and looked at the film and saw that we still have a lot of

room to grow. Anytime you can shut out a team from scoring you are going to give yourself a

chance to win. Offensively we made some turnovers but showed ability to score very

quickly. We also got the opportunity to play some of our younger guys to get them some game

experience and compete for some roles.

Page 11: December 5, 2015 Simply Serving Club volunteered to carry

What do you feel will be the key to accomplishing your team goals this season?

I feel that we have good players and we just need to make sure that we are consistent with doing

the right things on and off the field. I preach to our team about playing disciplined because it

was one of the things that hurt us last season. If we can be consistent and play disciplined then

the sky is the limit.

Coach Myers is very inspirational, an excellent communicator and is a fine example for his

players. Come out and cheer our Team to a Victory on Friday Nights! Go Bulldogs!
