S On the first 2 pages of our bulletin, you’ll find our
Highlight of the Week and information about Worship and
Sacraments at St. Vincent de Paul. The Highlight is a featured
space to give more details about a particular ministry or event.
In the Worship & Sacraments section, we introduce the
readings for the upcoming week and include articles about the
various Sacraments celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul.
The Seven Sacraments are the outward signs instituted by
Christ to give grace to us, and therefore are vital to the life of
our parish. These pages also include a calendar of parish
events for the upcoming week.

Another year comes to an end. There is
an old German saying, “Alles hat ein
Ende; nur die Wurst hat zwei.”
Translated, it teaches us, “Everything
has an end; only the sausage has two.”
The end of the year always invites us
to reflect on the end times – and to
remind us that a day of reckoning is coming. If this past year
has taught us anything, it is that a time of reckoning already is
upon us.
For many in the public eye, 2017 was a year of facing up to
allegations of misconduct and lurid pasts. It was a year in
which maybe we all learned how better to own up to our own
sins, to beg pardon, and to make amends. I pray that we
learned something else too – that is, how to make strides to
become people who know how to forgive.
So perhaps the sausage is not the only thing with two ends.
A first end must come for us now – as we resolve to bring to
an end all of our wounding and wounded ways. If we can do
that, then our final end is something we can look forward to in
hope. May the Lord show the way in 2018.
In the Parish Staff & Administration section of our bulletin,
you can see all the administrative updates for the Parish,
as well as announcements about our staff, finances, & facilities.

From our Pastor
The early deadline for the Jan. 7 bulletin has
passed. The deadline for submissions for the
Jan. 14 bulletin is Monday, Jan. 8 at Noon.
Bring our Gifts Forward Families and groups of individuals can arrange in advance to
perform the role of “Gift Bearer” at Mass. The normal practice is
to have three people act as a team to bring forward the gifts of
wine, water, and bread to present to the Presider at Mass. It is a
great way to help celebrate a birthday, anniversary, gradua-
tion, or other memorable event. Reservations may be made at
the Church Office during regular office hours, and may be made
for a specific date and Mass time, up to one year in advance.
We will “book” the reservation with contact information.
A family or group can always cancel a reservation.
The Reservations will be posted Friday afternoon in the Usher
Room. The Family/Group must sit near the gifts table.
The Family/Group should introduce themselves to the usher
nearest the main doors 10 minutes prior to the beginning of
Mass. The usher will remind them of their duties. If no Family/
Group that has a reservation has made it known that they are
present with less than 10 minutes before Mass, then the usher will
select other persons to fulfill this role.
Year-End Giving
To read more
or to donate, go to:
https://saintvdp.org/year-end-giving
With possible changes in federal tax law
that reduce tax rates in later years, you may
want to consider a financial donation in 2017.
Here are some options that would support
our Parish Community:
▪ The Blessings Fund – is created to help with tuition aid at
St. Vincent de Paul School. Our society benefits from
students educated in strong Catholic schools. Your donation
helps support this important ministry by providing financial
assistance to students in need.
▪ Major Repair and Replacement – your donation funds the
larger facility costs that are not supported by our annual
operating budget, such as roof, parking lot, HVAC, other
equipment, and lighting.
▪ Generosity for Generations Capital Campaign – Current
contributions are fulfilling our Well-Grounded goal of paying
off our land mortgage. Consider a one-time donation.
Year End Stock Gift
If you are in a tax bracket of 15% or higher, claim itemized
deductions, and have owned an appreciated stock for more than
a year, the donation of that stock can have a double tax benefit.
More information can be found at www.saintvdp.org/stock.
There are some restrictions, so please consult with a financial
professional before making such a decision.
It is with heartfelt appreciation that we will
sadly say farewell to Margaret Schauer,
our Coordinator of Pastoral Care, at the
end of December. Margaret Schauer has made such a lasting
impact on our parish. She has served as
our Pastoral Minister for over 10 years,
caring for those in need and contributing in
countless ways in areas that have not
always be seen by others.
Thank you Margaret, and best wishes!
A Fond Farewell to Margaret Schauer
Margaret has decided to
take the position of
Late Life Specialist with
St. Therese Homes
beginning in January.
Note: the parish office will be closed on Monday, January 1 for the New Year’s Holiday.
The Fellowship & Faith Formation section of the bulletin is where you can find opportunities to connect with
other parishioners through shared activities for fellowship and spiritual growth. This is where you’ll find information about
upcoming social activities and the various groups you are invited to join at our parish. We categorize the activities
by age group to make it easier for you to find the opportunities that appeal to you.
You will also check this section when you want to learn more about our Catholic faith. You can grow your faith together
with other parishioners through various Bible studies, small prayer groups, speakers, retreats, classes and other activities
for school-aged children, and much more. Your presence is welcome and needed!

Offerings of love
from our youngest
parishioners.
In the Prayer, Participation, & Generosity section
of our bulletin, you’ll find ways to fulfill God’s call to serve.
Consider this section your “Call to Action!”
Check these pages each weekend to find your opportunity
to serve God by serving others.
Whether you serve with
prayer, donations, or the contribution
of your time and talents, each one
of us can find a way to give.
