Sunday Worship December 31, 2017
10:30 a.m.
Preparation for Worship
God, giver of every good gift, we gather here by
habit or by accident, from lives frantic or serene.
We gather here, young, old, in middle age, all of
us children whose names you know by heart. On
the brink of a new year, we gather here, each of
us hoping for a new word, a gentle touch, a
nudge in the right direction where you need us
to go. Amen.
(Based on a prayer by Molly Phinney Baskette.)

Call to Worship
One: This is the day that the Lord has made.
Many: We will be glad and rejoice in it.
One: This is the year that the Lord is beginning.
Many: We will rejoice and be glad in it.
One: Because of the Lord‟s great love, we are not consumed, for his
compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
Many: Great is your faithfulness.
One: The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to those who seek him.
Many: Great is your faithfulness, O Lord.

Hymn #39 Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Prayer of Confession
Holy God, we open our hearts to you this day,
and offer the truth of our lives:
The fear that stifles us,
The prejudice that blinds us,
The ignorance that hobbles us,
The doubt that plagues us.
Help us, we pray, so that we will
Find courage in unlikely places,
See the world with new and gracious eyes,
Move to those places where love is needed,
Have faith that you are with us.
This we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Assurance of Pardon
Leader: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting unto everlasting. As far as the
East is from the West, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. In
the name of Jesus Christ, we are all forgiven.
People: Thanks be to God.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE
Out of Gratitude We Give. The Joy Gift is a PC(USA) special offering with a rich,
almost 140-year history of commitment. The offering, collected nationwide at
Christmastime, is distributed equally between assistance to church workers and
educating leaders from ethnic minorities at Presbyterian-supported colleges and
schools. It is critical to church workers and their families in times of need, and to
new leaders being educated in a way that nurtures their racial and ethnic diversity.
Please continue these commitments of the PC(USA) by putting your contribution in
the Joy envelopes found in the pews.
Financial Update. Please pledge so that we can plan our budget for the new year.
Pledge cards are in the pews, and you can drop them in the offering plate or in the
office. Pledge envelopes for those who have pledged already are in the Narthex for
you to take home. Thank you!
End-of-Year Giving. We are seeking donations for new folding chairs in Wester
Hall and a Preschool playground set. Chairs are around $25 each and the play set
is several thousand, but any donation will be gratefully accepted. A new item
added to the list is a new, integrated AV system for the Family Room at approxi-
mately $1500. Thank you for including Grace in your end of year giving.
Giving and Taxes. Checks received up until January 7, 2018, AND DATED De-
cember 31, 2017, or earlier, will be considered contributions for the 2017 calendar
year. Note: Checks MUST be dated in 2017 for us (and the IRS) to consider them
as 2017 contributions.
Is Steven Speilberg in the Audience? If you‟ve dreamed of working the camera,
you need hands-on experience now! The Grace AV Team needs volunteers to record
services beginning in January, and make copies for the Library. See John
Machado ([email protected]) for details.
Narthex and Information Station. Please check for the many ways you can give
hands-on service, learn about Grace missions, and sign up for special events. Janu-
ary at Grace is full of life, even in the middle of Winter!
2018 Flower Dedications. Please sign up in the Narthex for a date to dedicate
sanctuary flowers for the upcoming year. The donation is $50, and will support the
beautiful work the Sanctuary Guild does. Place checks in the offering plate or bring
them to the office. If you have questions, please contact Virginia in the office.
