“Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.”

Dear Friends,

Our hearts are longing for peace. Jesus, the babe in the manger is our peace. As we ponder His beautiful face asleep in the hay, we are filled with the assurance that God is with us. He has kept His promise and will not abandon us. Draw near to Him in these Christmas days and let that peace permeate your heart. In a world that is full of anxiety and fear, draw near to the one who can allay any disturbance in your soul.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and I am praying for you and your families.

This year the liturgy has looked a bit different, we've changed and adapted to make it safe for everyone but also managed to have our church open to provide the sacraments!

In living out this liturgical year a bit differently, we've found new ways to be together through our livestreams and our church environment. Af-ter every Mass we are sent forth to serve, love, and share the Good News of the Lord!!

This Christmas, things are different, but it's Christmas! It's a time of joy and celebration, a time to come together (even if it's virtually), and to share the Good News that our Savior is born.

Have a very Merry Christmas and I hope to see you at church in person or via livestream!

Adult Evangelization

Dear Friends,

Merry Christmas!

As we celebrate the birth of Emmanuel, God with us, I pray that we throw open the door of our hearts to accept God’s invitation of abiding closer and deeper in Him especially in this time of continued physical distancing from family and friends. The Mystery of the Incarnation re-veals God’s hand in the midst of humanity’s messiness: He purposely chose to enter our fragile and broken humanity so that we can enter the fullness of life in Him!

Investigating that Story of Salvation, our Monday Night RCIA / Bible Study has started a new series from Ascension Press: The Bible Time-line. Starting with Genesis, we have begun to work through the narra-tive books of the Bible in chronological order and are beginning to see not only God’s presence in the lives of His people, but also the founda-tions He laid from the beginning of time for His coming in the full-ness of time, and the gift of the Holy Spirit who sustains us in the Church through our current time.

Adult preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is wellunder way, and in the new year, our next series of Marriage Prep classes will begin. In the place of our Adult Ed Nights, we have begun a new 2nd Wednesday of the Month Series: ERE (Evening Recollection on / with the Eucharist) which takes place monthly at 6:15pm during our regularlyscheduled adoration visit times with Jesus.

In our Archdiocesan Year of the Eucharist, which now overlaps the newly announced universal Year of St. Joseph, let us ask the interces-sion of the chaste father of Jesus to help us welcome the Son of God into the inner dwelling of our hearts, so that we may truly abide in Him, and He in us.

We are so grateful to still be able to pray together as young adults here at St. Anthony Parish. Young adults from both Englishspeaking and Spanish

speaking communities in the parish have been gathering for bilingual eve-nings of Eucharistic Adoration, called “BreakIns” because we are breaking into the Eucharistic mystery. In the presence of Jesus, we are coming togeth-er as a community in new ways, even amid this pandemic! Our next Break

Ins will be on Monday, January 11th, at 9pm; and Sunday, January 24th, at 7pm. It is our sincere hope that we will be able to resume efforts to form “BreakOut” small groups. Please contact our seminarian, John Paul Tomassi if you have any questions.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd And a little child shall lead them (Isaiah 11:6) Through these months of

uncertainty and an everemerging situation, I am struck by the resilience of our children. The confidence and hope they share is a source of com-fort and peace to the adults blessed to work beside them in the atrium of

the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. They remind us, like the an-

gels to the shepherds: Do not be afraid, God is near, Rejoice! As we enter the New Year with a new landscape, let us move forward with the trusting confidence of the child, holding great hope to see eve-ryone back in atrium in 2021!

The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

Children’s Faith Formation

We realize that our Christian faith must continually be nourished if it is to re-main living and vital. Faith formation is a key component for our St. Anthony Parish. Therefore, we desire to grow in our Christian lives through family de-votions, personal prayer and study, and the opportunities for spiritual develop-ment offered by the Church.

As the COVID19 pandemic continues, we also continue to create a place for all ages to have the opportunity to learn about our faith and develop a strong foundation, even during this uncertain time.

While working on new, virtual faith formation format, it became clear that with limited inperson gatherings, churches must now create a hybrid paradigm of faith development and figure out how to deliver faith formation through online platforms.

For our weekly Zoom meetings, we strive to keep our lessons interactive and engaging so we can keep the interest of the kids. When we started, there was a lot of quiet, dead air, but now we can hardly get through a lesson because the kids are so engaged!

We are blessed with joyfilled families that take faith formation to heart. And we are happy to offer this level of athome faith support which provides a wonderful foundation for the children’s faith development and in strengthening the Domestic Church.

We miss the weekly facetoface encounters, but the virtual community we have created brings us such joy! Parents and grandparents join in the lesson and engage with the children, creating a multigenerational virtual space. We love this unique community we have created! As the COVID19 pandemic continues, we have decided to continue our plan to do Zoom faith formation sessions. We are especially excited that we have also decided to incorporate a onceamonth inperson gathering to allow families to visit Jesus for a Holy Hour and pickup faith formation materials.

So, this is the future of faith formation… a hybrid of virtual resources, with in

person gatherings once safe. This new way of faith formation allows for growth and development beyond the church’s four walls! We can reach more than just those sitting in the chairs but gather with people near and far. I en-courage you to not forget the importance of faith formation, especially during this uncertain and difficult time.

Virtual faith formation is full of trial and error; it’s a process, and not onesize

fitsall. It might take a while for the interaction to build, so don’t give up too soon! A crucial element of faith formation should always be fun! When the kids have fun, they will be begging to come back each week to learn and do more. Especially in today’s crazy world, a strong and loving faith formation space for children makes all the difference!

May this Christmas help us to make room for Christ in our homes and our hearts, to allow the Prince of Peace to give you the inner strength you need to grow in faith, to search for the Savior who alone can give us reason to hope and love. Merry Christmas to all! Micie

Through your generosity, we were able to help 110+ children for Christmas this year. In addition, several of our Extraordinary Eucharistic Homebound Ministers learned the new COVID protocols to continue the homebound ministry. By doing this, they helped ensure those that were unable to leave their home still have the opportunity to receive Jesus. During our annual Stewardship of Treasure renewal, we were blessed to hear from a few of our parishioners, their personal testimonies of how God has transformed them to give. Our witness speakers really impacted so many of our parishioners’ hearts. We had many pledges turned in, several returning parishioners and firsttime pledgers, as well. Your faithful, loving generosity will allow us to provide another fruitful year of ministry. This past year, there was a large desire for the sacraments from our parishioners and even local visitors. We are so grateful to the many parish-ioners who have shared their talents, especially those who have helped us provide Mass daily and weekly. Thank you, St. Anthony Parish, for all your love and support during this year. May this year be filled with many more blessings.

Merry Christmas! Christmas is so beautiful for us to celebrate the birthday of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It brings us Hope, Faith, Joy, and Love from the Holy Child Jesus and His Holy Family.

Many of us must still face of the recently situation from the time of pandemic which is tending to increase. I’m still in that stream and meet many difficulties in my life and work. However, I try to find the blessings I got from that. It’s really a blessing for my community (sisters in the convent) that we have a Holy Hour every day from the lockdown order (from March until now), which we used to have once a week before. In front of the Eucharist, I think about those I can remember and call their names in my mind as if I remind them with Jesus. I pray for the Church, the country and all of you, our pastor, priests, St. Anthony Parishioners, Staff, School, my family and friends, etc.

The Eucharist is my strength at all time and I'm not the only one who found blessings at this time. I was touch when I read Michael Ho’s thanksgiving letter that was sent to those who used to support Pho for Haiti last month. In the letter, he shared his experience about blessings he received from God’s love. I would like to share it to you so that you can see God is good at all the time. “… Despite all of these challenges, I still find many things to be thankful for. I am thankful for St. Anthony that continues to nourish me spiritually through the Eucharist and for the universal Catho-lic Church for giving me hope by uniting us in prayer. I do not question what I don’t understand, but find solace in the belief that God has a plan and through prayer we will overcome. I am also thankful for my family and my St. Anthony family as they are my source of strength and hope. Because of Covid, my family (brothers, sisters, parents, nieces and nephews) from all over the country virtually meet, talk and pray at least once a week as opposed to once a year prior to Covid. Sometimes it takes an unfathomable event to make us stop doing all the things we perceived as being important so that we can focus on the things that are really important. And during these try-ing times, we gain renewed faith.”

May the Holy Child Jesus grant you and your family: Joy, Love, and Peace this Christmas and

New Year, especially during the pandemic, may God protect you and sustain you in faith.
