STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
Jesus was born of a humble virgin, in humble, crude
surroundings, and obviously, without benefit of a “baby
shower” to provide new blankets, new clothes or toys to
entertain. Our newborn King entered this world in a
humble, human form. Yet, our King was rich, and those
who traveled to see Him and pay Him homage brought
gifts honoring Him as a king should be recognized. God
had a plan.
This newborn’s parents were denied a place to enter and
stay where the young mother could give birth to a Son,
Jesus, and she and Joseph could celebrate this special
moment, this joyous, life-giving, world-changing event,
this special gift from God. But, God had a plan.
This newborn King, this Jesus, entered our world in human
form, one like us, but without sin. He lived and walked
among those like us who lived at that time. He came to teach,
to heal, to love and to save. God had a plan.
Jesus suffered as we all do. He lived humbly and in
obscurity most of His life. He was subject to torments and
ridicules, and many of the same hardships we, too,
suffer. He bore them without complaint. He trusted His
Father. He knew God had a plan.
God had a plan from the beginning of time, even until
now. He asks us to believe and trust just as His Son, Jesus
believed and trusted while living on this earth. He trusted
even to His death on the cross. He knew His Father would
not abandon Him; He knew God had a plan.
God’s plan involves all of us if we choose to enter into
it. Jesus’ birth/life, death and resurrection which we recall
each Christmas, when He entered our world in human form,
and each Easter, when He rose to new life from the tomb,
offers us new life, eternal joy and peace. God has a plan.
“God’s plan is so perfect that even sin, tragedy, and
painful deaths are used to bring us to divine union. God
wisely makes the problem itself part of the solution. It is
all a matter of learning how to see rightly, fully, and
therefore truthfully.”1
Is God’s plan your plan? Let it be.

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos
4th
Sunday of Advent I 40 Domingo de Adviento
In the Advent season, we are presented with
two great characters whose lives and actions
lead us to the birth of the Lord on Christmas
Day. These two eminent figures are John the
Baptist and Mary.
The Church holds these two models of faith in
great respect and veneration. The Catholic Church only
celebrates three births: that of Jesus on December 25, Mary
on September 8, and John the Baptist on June 24. We honor
all other saints on the anniversaries of their deaths.
Today's Word reminds us of the wonderful moment when
Mary visited Elizabeth. It was a meeting between two
mothers, to the benefit and joy of both. The Gospel says
that Mary went "quickly" to the house of Zechariah. Faith
always demands a certain urgency. Faith is not stagnation
but an encounter.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, two phenomena
occurred in her: "the infant leaped in her womb" and she
"was filled with the Holy Spirit." Recognizing her cousin as
the mother of her Lord, Elizabeth greeted Mary with the
words of faith that we still repeat today, “Most blessed are
you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”
Elizabeth captured the inner presence of Mary and it
resonated within her. Every true spiritual encounter should
provoke a similar resonance: an internal awareness that
leads us to encounter the truth inside us, and an authentic
reception of the Holy Spirit.
We can live a routine faith, not moved or stimulated by the
things that happen to us, or we can cultivate a faith that is
open to encounters with the Lord. True faith generates a
vibrant encounter, because it opens our innermost soul to
what happens around us.
In this fourth week of Advent, let us ask ourselves if we
have become accustomed to looking at the Lord with the
same indifference and distance with which we see other
situations in life, or if we can open our hearts with joy to
welcome those who bring us the loving presence of
Christ? Can we exclaim with the same grace as Elizabeth,
“Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the
fruit of your womb”?
sucede a nuestro alrededor.

RCIA—Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Resumes January 7
For those who feel the stirring of faith and curiosity in
their heart...RCIA or the Rite of Christian Initiation of
Adults is a process by which the community initiates
into its midst non-baptized adults, baptized adults from
another faith seeking communion with the Catholic
Church, and those preparing for full initiation through
the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. RCIA is
primarily a journey of faith that begins with wondering,
asking and seeking; continues through hearing God’s
word, studying, discussing, and praying; and leads to a
commitment through the sacraments of initiation to a
life of faith and love in communion with Catholics
throughout the world.
We meet Monday nights, 7:00 pm, Scanlan FL2. Please
contact Judy Coryell (925-786-0257) with questions.
A reminder…
In the Diocese of Salt Lake City, January 1, the
Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Holy Mother
of God, is not a Holy Day of Obligation.
