Times School Ranking Delhi Public School Hyderabad secured the 4th rank in the city and 1st rank in the West zone in the annual evaluation of best schools in the city conducted by Times of India.

Cultural Extravaganza If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in. The Cultural Extravaganza, a day long programme, provided the perfect platform for the impressionable minds of the students of grade 3 to 8 not only to understand the complexities of human emotions through art but also to appreciate the value of team work and time management. They were left with a sense of accomplishment and filled with gratitude for what they had achieved for themselves and their parents. At DPS, we strive to instil the students with a sense of humility and gratefulness as we believe that gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions and the more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you have even more to express gratitude for. Together with the

unfaltering support of the parents and teachers fortified with the means and resources of the management, DPS Hyderabad put up a bonanza of mesmerising events in the form of the Cultural Day. The cultural programme was held at Shilpakala Vedika, Madhapur on 24 November, 2018. Rightly pointed out by Mrs. Raina Bhatt, co-ordinator of grade 3 and 4, that the

show was put up in a mere seventeen working days and yet it showcased performances galore. The day long event saw three sets of performances by the three wings. The show was graced by the board members Mr. G. Ramesh, Mr. Y. Lakshmi Narayana, Academic Director, Mrs. Rekha Aggarwala, Principal

DPS Hyderabad, Mrs. Geetha Vishwanathan, Headmistresses, Coordinators of DPS Hyderabad and parents. Shalom – A New Dawn, Grade VII and VIII

The programme began with the performances of grade VII and VIII. The outpouring of cumulative talent and student energy was at its best as each one contributed towards the theme of global peace and harmony. Every presentation came with its own charm and flavour of the country that it represented. The show began with a soulful sloka followed by an invocation dance to ensure the blessings of Lord Ganesha. What followed was a glorious potpourri of a mime, songs, dances, a skit and polished announcements by the compering squad. A volatile war zone depicted the modern-day scenario and a thought-provoking poem reminded one and all of the need to break down barriers. Mellifluous renditions and a flash mob carried the message of peace and an electrifying performance by Nebula Nexus left the audience impressed. Be it the Arabian, Mexican or African dance, each brought with it an authentic representation of its country. The audience was left spell bound by the grace and grandeur of the 'Thousand Hands Dance' and the intricate dance moves were a treat to watch. The hip hop dance created a mesmerizing effect with UV synchronised special effects. The beautiful show came to a befitting end with the grand finale, a perfectly coordinated extravaganza of Indian dances. Surely actions spoke louder than words in rendering the essence of the theme of celebrating differences. The special effects of the LED screen and the larger than life stage props added to the grandeur of the show creating a mesmerising 3D effects to the show. Parents were left transfixed and yearning for more.

Bioscope – Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Grade V and VI The afternoon session was presented by the students of grade V and VI. They gave the audience a unique, out of the world (pun intended) experience when they lured in the naïve aliens to land on the vibrant, bustling multifaceted world called, India. From Aristotle’s postulate of five elements to saving Mother Nature through a dance performance; from Nukkad Natak, highlighting the debilitating effects of mobile phones to a tribute to the Indian soldiers, the show had it all. Pure splendour dripped from each performance as the students executed their roles like professionals. They were in perfect harmony with the environment, showcasing each program with pride and character.

As all good things must come to an end, so did this function with a scintillating grand finale. Students danced to hit numbers starting from the 60s to the present day setting the stage on fire with their energy. It was a befitting end to the Annual Function and to the journey of the aliens who went back with lasting memories of life on Earth in all its glory, just as the parents did.

Prismatic Extravaganza, Grade III and IV The third show slated for the evening was that of the youngest group of III and IV. The stage was set for learning about various cultures of the world through the eyes of a couple of curious students who discreetly stayed behind in a doll house to witness the most amazing thing one could imagine; the dolls coming alive for celebration. The theme was in much coherence with the age of the curious minded students of grade 3 and 4. The stage was set for a doll museum that rendered a dream like feel to the entire show. The youngsters performed with great confidence and exhibited their talents through myriad dances, songs and outstanding performances. It was an absolute wonder to watch the students perform dances and songs from around the world in languages unknown to them with absolute perfection. The costumes added to the glitz and glamour of the entire show. It left the audience with a fulfilling experience to watch their children perform with such grace and coordination.

Inter-House Competitions Grade Nursery – Poem Enactment

“Poem Enactment is a mode of expression, a medium to reflect the latent talent of the young ones”. It has proven to be stepping stones for the young children to learn English, as it not only helps in the learning of language at the early stage but also helps express their feelings through facial expressions and gestures.

Keeping this in mind an “Inter House Poem Enactment” was organized for class Nursery on 15th November, 2018. The Preliminary round was conducted in the classroom from where six children from each of the six sections were selected for the final round. A strong performance is the one in which the meaning of the Poem is powerfully & clearly conveyed. This was displayed beautifully by the students of Nursery when they recited “The time to be happy “poem. They enthralled the judges and teachers with their articulation and memory skills. The judges of the event appreciated and applauded the performance of the children. The judges also appreciated the way the little ones conducted themselves on the stage. The children were judged on their presentation, clarity, diction, voice modulation and expression. The judges were Mrs Ramani and Mrs Beulah. NUR A

Prep – R- Tunes “Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” The children of Pre-Primary (Nursery and Prep) took part in the most awaited special event, R-Tunes, Group Singing contest on 2nd of November. All the children from each section took part in the contest. Our little partakers displayed a lot of enthusiasm and zest while they took part in the event. They enthralled the spectators with their well synchronized performances. They were adjudged on following parameters: accuracy, diction, pronunciation, synchronization, presentation, The kids were brilliant on the stage and mellifluously rendered R-Tunes which just held the judges and audience spell bound. Each class made their appearance section wise on the stage. The children of Nursery rendered the song “ The beautiful planet in the sky” while the children of Prep rendered “The red river valley”. The audience was simply awestruck by the string of 13 performances by our cherubic young stars. Nursery had the teams named on different flowers whereas the Prep team was represented by the names of different birds. The judges had a tough time in judging the contest as the young Dipsites gave a very tough competition. Indulging in such contests as part of the curriculum not just encourages them to perform to the best of their abilities but also nurtures their language skills while also imbibing love for arts and culture. It was a delight witnessing them enjoy the healthy competition while they also learnt to work in group maintaining perfect coordination.

Grade: PREP.

Grade Prep.: Tale Teller

It’s the stories that give wings to our imagination, take us to places beyond the boundaries of our world and into the land of fairies. It is in our imagination that we embrace the things and situations that we shy away from real world. Since time immemorial, tale teller has been an integral part of our childhood. To keep the tradition going and to incite curiosity and the love for reading in children, a Tale Tellers competition was held as a part of Inter House Contest on November 19th and 20th, 2018. Our little story tellers with encaptivating expressions and terrific oratory charmed the audience. To make it even more interesting our little dipsites adorned the appropriate costumes and played their character to perfection. The kids were engrossed into the character and presented themselves confidently on the stage and the way they enacted the story was absolutely striking. Each section appeared house wise on the stage. Each section presented four skits house wise. There was a hundred percent participation of the students. The children performed a series of stories which gave the audience an ample to ponder over while they stole hearts of the audience and the judge with their stellar performances. As the competition was intense, the judge had tough time in choosing the winners. They were judged on coordination, presentation, diction and expression. Each section has a winner and a runner up. Based on all the performances section E was judged as the Best class.

The judges were Mrs. Geetha Vishwanathan, Principal and Mrs. Laxmi Samal, Pre- Primary Coordinator. They appreciated the efforts put in by the teachers and students. All the stories were very well presented using creative props and beautiful backdrop of forest. Incorporating such events in our curriculum not just fosters their imagination and cognitive skills but also nurtures their vocabulary, diction and action. We felt elated witnessing them learn to coordinate, collaborate and how to appear perfectly poised. The event culminated with our Principal Ma’am, Mrs. Geetha Vishwanathan who gave them insights to help take their performances a notch higher. Results: Prep: A

Grade 3 : Tangrams

“It is always the simple that produces the marvelous.” -Amelia Barr Education, if not incorporated with co-curricular activities cannot be considered workable and complete. The prime objective of these activities is to inculcate among the pupils a sense of collective responsibility and solidarity, a sense of team spirit and to encourage healthy competition. The Tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes called tangram, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a specific shape using all seven pieces, which may not overlap. Tangram was inter-house activity for class III on 19-11-2018 in the school, where the children were given to make any Tangram figure related to what they observe around them like cat, boat, hut, people etc. The students of Class 3 came up with some interesting and creative ideas. Children enthusiastically participated in the activity and made nice and interesting Tangram figures using all seven different shapes and placed them correctly. This activity helps children to learn geometric terms and also develop stronger problem solving abilities.

Grade 6 : Numerical and Verbal Ability

In today’s contemporary world, it is extremely important that young children are equipped with the right skills and expertise so that they are able to keep up with the fast-pace globalization and expansion. Numerical and Logical Reasoning skills are two such abilities. One small step in this direction was to organize an Inter-House Competition for the students of Classes VI to test their abilities in this genre and also to assess how well students can interpret, and logically evaluate numerical evaluations for which a questionnaire was given to the students containing 20 questions which they had to complete in one hour. Students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed attempting the assessment.

Theme of the Month

“I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship”

Children enjoy little things in the world. They are inquisitive about learning the world around them. They love to explore, create and discover new things which create a sense of wonder in them. To introduce the real world to our exuberant little dipsites, an innovative theme “Little Wildlife explorer” was planned where the children participated in various colorful hands on activities. Presenting the real world to them in the form of this originative theme not just encouraged them to nurture their imaginative skills but also helped them learn about different animals and their habitats. As part of the theme, the children of Prep and Nursery took part in bug hunting activity where the children were encouraged to explore the school premises in an open-ended way with an imaginative play and were also introduced to new vocabulary pertaining to the wildlife exploration to enhance their language development. The children were also exposed to various audio visuals on exploring wildlife in jungle and also were narrated a story on wildlife exploration “Teehee and her friends exploring the world with magical dress up box”. It was a fun filled experience. The Inter-house contest, Tale Tellers also had the theme of animals, where the children presented different skit on animals showcasing their dramatic skills.

The last week was theme celebration week. Different corners of the premises were setup so as to recreate habitats of different animals like wild animals, domestic animals, and aquatic animals, aerial animals etc. The children played the role of different animals wearing head gears and mask and participated enthusiastically.

As a take away children made 3D snails and a lady bug.

The message strongly conveyed THE FUTURE OF WILDLIFE IS IN OUR HANDS.

The Good Samaritans – Testing the Waters

Sanya Sharma, currently a twelfth-grade Humanities student, has been engaged in various activities that actively contribute to the community. In 10th grade, she organized an event for an NGO called 'Sandesh', where she invited a renowned Doctor to make citizens aware about the impact of Autism on an individual and raised funds for the NGO. Sanya was one among the thirty students to get selected for an Internship with 'Reap Benefit', that seeks to solve local environmental problems and visited several schools in Bangalore, to teach students of different grades. She is also part of the 'Lets Feed Bangalore' Campaign which provides for food and essentials to families in rural communities. Furthermore, Sanya has also received commendation from the Australian Government when she made a video on the journey of a life of an Autistic child titled 'Half Glass Full'. Sanya's epiphany to become a human rights lawyer led her to attend a summer program at the University of Oxford to study law over the duration of two weeks. From debating at the Oxford Union to formulating a start-up idea and presenting it to a group of Venture Capitalists, her learning expanded beyond the classroom. The course stimulated one's intellectual ability to think and reason, but also taught Sanya about different cultures and traditions, by interacting with students from across the globe. Sanya vividly recalls walking into the Oxford Union and seeing a photo of Mother Teresa and Queen Elizabeth, sitting in the exact place where she was going to receive a Graduation Certificate. Lastly, she believes that every student must contribute back to society, as every voice and action counts: “You may not always have a comfortable life and you will not always be able to solve all of the world's problems at once but don't ever underestimate the importance you can have because history has shown us that courage can be contagious and hope can take on a life of its own.” – Michelle Obama

The Road to Success is not straight, there is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speedbumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. you will have flat tires called Jobs, but if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, a driver called Will Power, you will make it to a place called Success and it all begins with a single step.
