The meeting was called to order at 9 a.m.  President Cliff opened the meeting and led usin the Pledge of Allegiance.  Cal Westra led us in Prayer.

Officer & Committee Reports were accepted: President:  Cliff asked if anyone knew about our Canadian member,Steve Branch, as we have not seen them in a while.  Dory Thompson advised that as far as she knew, all is well, just very busy in Canada.  Cliff also thanked the members for putting up with him for the past 2 years as President.  Cliff went over birthdays and anniversaries for November & December.Vice President:  Kathy thanked everyone and gave out small plants to everyone.Treasurer:  Gregg reported a club balance.Secretary:  Janice presented the October minutes.  Motion to accept made by Jackie Ouellette and seconded by Irene Griffin.  Motion passed.Director:  Cal had nil to report but reminded everyone that ballots for the National Director are due.Accessories:  Irene Griffin thanked everyone as we have no extra accessories left in inventory.Advertising:  Cal has met with Peggy Petrucci now that she is up and around again and gave all the information to her to pursue further.Membership & Club Badges:  Dory Thompson stated we have 126 members and  guest, Joe Valentino, just joined our Club.Sunshine:  Jackie Ouellette thanked everyone who attended Gilroy's mass.  She has sent out no cards recently.Tours:  Jay Harris stated that the windmill tour has 13 people signed up and room for more.  No tour for December and working on January.  He asked for suggestions from  the members and Quail was mentioned along with the Desert wildflower tour.Newsletter & Website:  Bob McClelland had nil to report.  He stated that if anyone has any suggestions for the newsletter to let him know.

(Cont. from Pg. 2)New Business:  Cliff presented the volunteers for 2019 officers:  Patsy Hamlin-President; Bob McClelland-Vice President; Gregg Lowry-Treasurer; and Linda Lowry-Secretary.  He made a motion that we accept the new board and asked the members to vote on same. The members voted in favor of the new board.  Welcome new board.   Also, Cliff advised that our January meeting falls on January 1st (New Years Day) and advised members that we could hold it then or change to either the Wednesday after or the next Tuesday or not have a January meeting.  Kathy Shedd suggested we have it on Tuesday, January 8th and the majority of the members agreed with same.  Cliff went and checked with the restaurant management and they agreed on same.Announcements:  Peggy Petrucci stated that on Feb. 2nd, the Murrieta High School would like some old cars at their party and if you would like to do this, please let Peggy know.Program:  Bob showed pictures of the tour to the Mortuary with the Model A Club. Tom Hamlin spoke about this tour and told us how some names came to be, i.e. dead ringer, bone yard, etc.  In 16th century Europe buried bodies were removed after 25 years and bones went into the bone yard.  They put a string on wrist of the buried body that went up above the ground and was attached to a bell in case someone had been buried alive. Being no further business to come before the meeting and on motion duly made and carried, the meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.It is directed that this action be filed in the Minute Book of the Corporation.  This action is executed pursuant to the Corporation Code of the State of California, which requires accurate minutes of any meeting of the Board be maintained.

Is Ford About to Abandon American Sedans?Excerpts taken from an article written by Keith Naughton April 26, 2018“…Cars will be just 10% of its North American portfolio by 2020. For much of its 115-year history, Ford Motor Co. has been synonymous with cars.  But now Ford, one of the great engines of 20th Century American industry, is about to do the unthinkable: abandon the American car business almost entirely.  Just two years from now, a mere 10 percent of the vehicles rolling off Ford assembly lines and into North American showrooms will be sedans and sports cars like the Taurus or Mustang. The rest will be pickups, SUVs and commercial vehicles -- more lucrative models that the company hopes will secure its future as change tears through the global auto industry.  Ford’s board ousted its chief executive officer last year and replaced him with Jim Hackett, a cost-cutter who’s prepared to make the sort of audacious gambles that Wall Street thinks have been missing.  Hackett, 63, is choosing a route similar to the one Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV used to pass Ford in North American profitability. Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Italian-American automaker, killed off the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 sedans and retooled the factories that had been assembling them. They now build Jeep SUVs and Ram pickups instead. Marchionne aims to surpass General Motors Co.’s margins in North America before his retirement in 2019.  While scrapping several sedans paid off for Fiat Chrysler -- the company almost halved net industrial debt in the first quarter -- the move wasn’t devoid of risk and won’t be for Ford, either. Both may have to count on fuel staying cheap and supporting demand for Ford Expeditions

and Jeep Wrangler SUVs, plus the F-Series and Ram truck lines.Ford is confident its new lineup will be able to withstand rising gasoline prices, Jim Farley, president of global markets, said in an interview.  “We feel comfortable this new lineup will offer customers world-class fuel economy,” he said. “In the past, the fuel economy gap -- the penalty people paid for that utility body style -- was pretty high. Now it’s very modest.”  By not investing in next generations of any car for North America except the Mustang, Ford now anticipates it’ll reach an 8 percent profit margin by 2020, two years ahead of schedule. Abstaining from that spending is part of Hackett’s plan to cut $25.5 billion in costs by 2022. That figure, announced Wednesday, is almost double what the CEO laid out in October.  Ford will hedge against risk of rising pump prices by spending $11 billion to bring out 40 electrified vehicles by 2022. Among those will be 16 battery-only models, including the Mach 1, a high-performance electric SUV coming in 2020.The company will expand its offering of crossovers, with vehicles such as the Focus Active coming next year that combine the high-riding attributes of an SUV with lighter-weight car frames to improve fuel economy over traditional big rigs.  Crossovers “are attractive to car owners because they get similar if not better fuel economy as we bring in new technology,” Farley said. “They just have different imagery and they give people that utility experience of higher ride height and more interior room.”Ford has not yet determined if it will offer a crossover version of the mid-size Fusion sedan, as it’s doing with the Focus compact, Farley said.   The Mustang will be all that’s spared from Ford’s slashing of its passenger-car lineup in North America. PALM SPRINGS WINDMILL TOUR On a potentially cold, windy day, 14 V-8ers and guests departed Temecula at 8:30 am for the 1 1/2 hour drive to Palm Springs to enjoy a guided tour of the huge wind turbine fields along I-10. As it turned out, it was neither cold nor windy, and a beautiful day ensued. After everyone enjoyed an informational presentation about the wind turbines and their history, we boarded a bus for a 1 hour tour of the fields and surrounding area. We learned that it takes at least an 8 mph wind speed to make these turbines spin, and they are programed to shut down via an onboard computer if wind speed exceeds 60 mph. The largest of these monster turbines measures 212 feet in height, and features 117 foot blades. These are modern G.E. turbines that generate 1.5 megawatts of power. Older turbines are scattered throughout the area and some are 20+ years old. Only two G.E. turbines in this field are equipped with an elevator, or a 'lift' device for maintenance workers to reach the top. All others are equipped with stairs! Lastly, we learned that the reason some blades are spinning while others nearby are not is due to: 1) Shut down for maintenance. 2) Irregular wind currents, meaning that even though turbines might be right next to each other, the wind currents could differ enough to propel one and not the other. After our tour of the vast fields of these monsters we were treated to fresh date shakes in a lovely patio area of the Windmill Market adjacent to the fields. Our tour guide Randy did a wonderful job of answering questions and explaining the evolution of wind power going back to 1906.
