Timberline Lodge tour!In September, about 10 couples went to Timberline Lodge for a personal tour and a wonderful lunch. It was a beautiful day, and the tour was filled with historical information. Timberline Lodge is really a living museum of Oregon history. Constructed during the Great Depression (from 1936 to 1938) by the Works Progress Administration, it was built and furnished by local artisans. It was dedicated in 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. I have lived all my life in Oregon and have never ventured inside this beautiful building. Most of the artifacts and the lodge are irreplaceable. If you have a chance, do not hesitate to visit. The tours are free and the dining room is open. Call 503-272-3311 or visit their website at http://www.timberlinelodge.com/ for information.
The PGE Retiree Board hosts many great events to keep in touch with friends you have made through working at PGE. The PGE Retiree Newsletter is a great resource for events and information. If you have an idea for an event, contact Terry Judkins.
Bob’s Red Mill tourIn October, the retirees went on their popular tour of Bob’s Red Mill with lunch. Every time you go, you learn something new about their different products and we always enjoy our tour guide. Plan on coming in 2019!

2018 has been a very busy year for the retirees and I won’t even try to predict the weather you may be experiencing when you receive this issue! In the future, if you would like
the content of the Newsletter to be more general in nature and not so time sensitive, please let me, Sylvia, or any Retiree Board Member know.
If you are looking for something satisfying to do – volunteer! Group get‑togethersGroups of happy retirees meet and eat on a regular basis all around the area. The list will be in the next issue. One happy group meets on the fourth Monday of every month at the Union Hall just off SE182nd Avenue. They meet at 11:30, it’s potluck and anybody is welcome!

Note from the editorHello fellow Retirees,
This is our last Newsletter for 2018! We hope that all of you have had a very memorable year. If you have any thoughts and ideas about this Newsletter, please feel free to call or email me or any member of the Retiree Board. We are trying to make it more user-friendly and you are the users! We are all hard-working, fun-loving PGE Retirees, and we hope to see you at one or more of the many enjoyable and informative events.
Have a very happy holiday season and may your hearts be filled with health, love and peace.
Sylvia Handris
Holiday Thoughts from December 1926Some things change, but some things don’t. The following is part of “Christmas Greetings” to the employees of the Portland Electric Power Company (PEPCO) in the December 1926 issue of the PEPCO Synchronizer (the NewsLine of its day):
“In this, the Yuletide season, the spirit of peace and good will reigns; it is preeminently a time during the year when the mind and the heart center upon service – doing something for someone other than oneself. It is a time when we remember our families, our friends and give thought to those who happen to be less fortunate than ourselves. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could prevail upon the spirit of Yuletide to remain with us longer than just for the holiday season?”

Check out the link that connects you to the PGE myCommunity site where you can record your volunteer hours or find NewsLines, Retiree Bulletins and some history of PGE.
If you want something posted or have a question, contact Retiree Webmaster Linh Huynh at 503‑328‑7915 or [email protected].
Brighten the day of a retiree! Barbara Beck, our Sunshine Chair, sent cards to several of our retirees and their spouses. Because of privacy concerns, we will no longer be sharing the names of those receiving cards, but Barbara is still sending them!
If you know of someone who isn’t feeling well, has suffered a personal loss or has a birthday, anniversary or a special occasion, contact Barbara Beck at 503‑775‑9236 or [email protected].
Things to knowLike us on Facebook!About 70 retirees (and counting) think the PGE Retirees Group Facebook page is a great way to communicate, discuss and make announcements. It is more secure than a normal Facebook membership because it is a “closed” group; you can’t see any of the information it contains unless you are a member.
If you would like to join the group, already have a Facebook account, don’t currently use Facebook or need any kind of assistance, send your email to Mark Lander at [email protected].
Did you move? Get a new phone number? You and your family (or beneficiaries) don’t want to miss important information, so let PGE know if you have changed your address or phone number. Contact HR Connect at 503‑464‑7250 or [email protected].
