Did You Know?Your Employee

Rights

With the start of the current school year, CSEA Chapter 293 would like to remind you of your Weingarten Rights.

If a supervisor calls you into a meeting, you may have reason to have your union representative present.

These are your rights: -You have the right to know the purpose or subject of the meeting. -If you think the meeting might lead to discipline, reprimand or dismissal, you have the right to union representation. -Immediately notify your job steward or Job Suarez of your meeting with management. -If the purpose of the meeting is investigatory and could lead to discipline and you have requested u n i o n r e p r e s e n t a t i o n , t h e employer must stop the meeting o r r e s c h e d u l e i t u n t i l a representative is present.

YOU MUST ASK FOR UNION REPRESENTATION.

The employer does NOT have to advise you of your rights.

I f y o u r e q u e s t u n i o n representation and it is denied, you have the right to refuse to answer any questions that could be used against you.

However, DO NOT refuse to attend the meeting.

Who is your Site Representative? Site Representatives are a vital communication link between members and chapter leaders. Site Reps keep bulletin boards updated; answer questions at their site or refer co-workers to the appropriate chapter officers and union staff for answers; welcome new employees and sign up new members; and relay information about problems and needs at their worksite back to chapter leaders. Site Reps duties are fairly easy and require a minimum amount of time (usually a couple of hours a month). However, it is NOT the Site Reps duties to sit in on disciplinary meetings; for that, a Job Steward must be contacted. In Chapter 293, Job Suarez, Chris Lawyer and Daisy Bennett may be contacted to assist the member with any disciplinary issues. To contact them refer the last page of the newsletter.

If you are interested in becoming a Site Rep please contact Evelyn Earll by email at [email protected] or by cell/text 714-287-2118

Currently, Site Reps are needed at the following ELEVEN (11) sites: Brookhaven - Bryant Ranch - Child Care - El Camino Real HS - La Entrada - Lakeview -

LindaVista -Mabel Paine -Ruby Drive - Valadez - Van Buren
