“So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the

manger.”

(Luke 2:16 NIV). We are transitioning into a very eventful time.

Socially we are entering into what is known as the “Christmas Season”. There are the parties, concerts, feasts, shopping and the like that go along with this time our culture engages in each year.

Spiritually we are entering into the Season of Advent. That is what the church has seen tradi-tionally as the four weeks prior to Christmas. Advent means “waiting” and the season is meant to remind us of the first Advent where the world waited for the Messiah to be born and the Second Advent where we are waiting on Christ to return.

We often confuse or intermingle those two sea-sons. Sometimes we see Advent and Christmas as the same thing and use the words inter-changeably. It is important for us to remember that for the church the “Christmas Season” doesn’t begin until Christmas Day. None of us should rigidly observe that and remove our-selves from the good aspects of our social ob-servances this time of the year. But as we party and sing and give gifts, we should keep things in perspective at least in our hearts.

This year we are planning to help everyone re-main focused on Advent and Christmas. For the

four Sunday’s of Advent we will be focusing on a different aspect of the Family of Jesus. This will begin in the Sunday School hour on Sunday morning where each Sunday School class will study the same biblical characters from the fam-ily of Jesus. And then each Sunday after Sun-day School the sermon for that day will focus on the same characters.

We will look at Elizabeth, who was a relative of Mary, and her husband Zechariah. We will look at their son, John, who became the forerunner of Jesus. We will study Joseph – while not biolog-ically the father of Jesus he raised the Christ child as his own son. And finally, we look at Mary, the young woman whose life was turned upside down so that the son of God would be born in Bethlehem.

The schedule is as follows:

December 2 – Elizabeth & Zechariah December 9 – John the Baptizer

December 16 – Joseph December 23 – Mary

Please be in prayer for our church and the whole world as we seek to learn from the family of Jesus. May our own Advent and Christmas be more special than ever before.

Have a blessed Advent season and a Merry Christmas,

Pastor Tim

The Bible should be at the center of everything we do as a church. Bible Study is, therefore, an integral part of our lives as disciples. In order to make our small group Bible Studies more available we have several sessions, as listed below. Each of our Bible Study groups is different. Please consider attending one of these sessions on a regular basis or let Pastor Tim know if there is another time that would work better for you.

Greetings!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and is looking forward to the upcoming season of Advent! Advent is a very exciting time but also tends to be quite busy as well, with Christmas parties, plays, outings, family get-togethers, etc. And this December is no differ-ent, especially here at LFPC. There are many activities and outings planned for our youth and their families as we move closer to the celebration of the birth of our Savior - and we hope you'll take part in all of it. But in the midst of it all, let us take the time to remember and reflect on the reason for this season -- Je-sus! Merry Christmas!
