London Fog Restorative Yoga

Friday, March 23 | 5:15 – 6:30pm | GX Studio

Register by Friday, March 16

Need a little inner peace as we transition into the fog of longer days and a rebirth of nature? We’ll

start our journey by bringing warmth to the body with soft, free-flowing movement, then gently

transition toward a sequence of longer held, supportive postures coming from both the restorative and

yin traditions. This method will calm the nervous system, revitalize the adrenals and release stress and

fatigue. As the body settles, the mind will begin to follow suit, shifting together into the ever-

deepening waters of clarity as you are guided through relaxation and meditation. No yoga experience

necessary.

Morning Meditation and Tea: Coming to Our Senses

Friday, March 2 | 8:00 – 8:30am | Meditation Garden

Register by Monday, Feb. 26

When we move into silence, our minds may wander instead of being in the present moment. Because

of this, mindful breathing techniques were developed to assist during Samadhi (deep concentration

achieved through meditation). Tea drinking can help cultivate silence and has been used in ceremonies

to reach a meditative state. Savor silence and join us for this unique tea ceremony encouraging

moment to moment awareness as we welcome a new day beneath the canopy of trees. Comfortable

clothing is needed as we will be seated on a bolster for the experience.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Series: A Condensed, Experiential Mindfulness

Meditation Course

Wednesdays, March 7 – 28 and April 11 | 4:00 – 5:00pm | GX Studio

$10 per person (via payroll deduction)

Register by Wednesday, Feb. 28

Mindfulness techniques allow us to pay attention on purpose, be in the present moment without judgment

and help stop our minds from wandering. Used for thousands of years and with thirty years of scientific

research, this modality has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety and increases general well-being and

overall happiness. Studies have discovered that when the brain is in a state of mindful meditation, the

parts of the brain that minimize distraction and promote awareness are stimulated. With time and

practice, meditation can change the way the brain functions. This series is a miniature offering based on

the more extensive Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Series offered at SAS. This offering is experiential,

without the lecture component. Handouts and resources are provided.

Goose Creek is an ideal early spring destination: we’ll be on the cusp of the spring wildflower bloom in

North Carolina and the temperatures, while warming, shouldn’t be warm enough to bring out the

pesky flying things that can make a visit here a challenge by mid-April. Our trip will include a hike to

catch the sunset over the Pamlico River Friday evening, a paddle trip Saturday on a local, intimate

creek (no previous paddling experience required), and a 6-mile hike Sunday morning. Goose Creek has

a tropical feel with its mix of marsh and swamp but there is also lots of boardwalk to keep us above the

fray on our exploration of the park.

Show your love this Valentine’s Day with jewelry! Vickie, a local jeweler, stops by campus every

Tuesday at lunch time in building GX. She offers jewelry sales, repairs, and watch battery replacement.

She would love to make this Valentine’s Day special for your loved ones. Also keep her in mind for

Mother’s Day gifts!

On-Site Tax Preparation Service

Mondays & Fridays, February – April

By appointment only

GX (please wait in the lobby level waiting area until your name is called)

Paying your taxes has never been this easy. Jackson Hewitt Tax Service is once again offering on-site

tax preparation. Payment for services must be made directly to Jackson Hewitt at the time of the

service. Payment will be accepted by cash, check, credit card, or out of your tax refund (this payment

option may have added costs). Services will be provided at 25% off of standard pricing fees for this on-

site service. (If you wish to have your taxes prepared at one of their offices, you will receive a 20%

discount upon request. Be sure to take your SAS ID badge.) Fees are determined based on the

complexity of the return. Returns may consist of the following: Form 1040 (long form), Schedule A

(itemized deductions), Child Tax Credit, Form 2441 (child/dependent care credit), Schedule D

(gains/loss – sale of stock) and other forms as needed, and NC (or other state returns as needed).

It is the responsibility of the employee to supply Jackson Hewitt with all the necessary information. If

you are an individual utilizing SAS’s Dependent Care Benefits, please refer to the Finance Department’s

web page in order to supply Jackson Hewitt with the appropriate information. Please note that SAS is

not endorsing the services of Jackson Hewitt. The RFC is simply providing a tax preparation option for

employees. Tax preparation and filing are ultimately the responsibility of the employee.
