GCSE PRESENTATION EVENING 2016
Another outstanding Presentation Evening this year, with staff, students,
and parents alike, celebrating the overwhelming success of our past and present students.
A special mention to former Head Girl, Rebecca, who won 'Services to School' Award for her work on the Sophie Lancaster Charity, campaigning to raise
awareness about prejudice and hate crime. Thank you to everyone who made the evening so special, including our amazing and inspiring guests, World Champion Taekwondo Player, Bianca Walkden and Liam Mitchell, an
entrepreneur and former student, running his own Web Design and Development company, Breeze Development
Bursting with pride, Ms. West (former Head of Year for last year’s Year 11), addressed her past year group stating what a genuine pleasure it had been
to work with each and every individual student. What a fantastic testament.
AWARD WINNERS
Suzanne Anders – Award for Services to the School
Awarded to Rebecca Hodge.
This award, in recognition of Suzanne’s service to the school was awarded to
Rebecca, a caring member of the school community.
Her passion and tenacity allowed her to be a positive role model to younger children in the school. Throughout her time at Rainhill, she produced thought-
provoking work and was the key driver in developing Student Voice, contributing to the wider culture of the school. Rebecca was an instrumental member of the
School Council and this gave her the opportunity to work on various projects throughout her five years at Rainhill High.
An excellent Anti-Bullying Ambassador, Rebecca made a real difference to the students at Rainhill. She dedicated time to helping others and always kept up with her studies.
Rebecca represented the school and her peers extremely well, including organising events around the St Helens area. Her
thoughtful, considerate nature encouraged others to get involved and make a difference. Despite a number of personal setbacks at primary school and in her early years at
Rainhill, Rebecca showed tenacity and blossomed into an extraordinary leader. Rebecca Hodge is the most political Head Boy or Girl, someone with an extreme passion for
making this world a better place.
Rebecca's legacy at the school is the Sophie Lancaster Day,
now an annual event.

Rebecca Clague – Award for Endeavour
Awarded to Daniel Gibson.
This award is in memory of Rebecca, a very popular, bright student who was highly regarding by both her peer group and members
of staff. During Daniel's final years at Rainhill High, he
faced personal difficulties yet never once gave up on school, friends or the determination to
succeed. All of this was done with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. Daniel was willing to accept any help that was offered by members of
staff and his friends; his strength and determination were inspiring.
Throughout this difficult period in his life, he still had the courage and strength to put 100%
effort into his phenomenal sporting talent as one of the top cyclists in the country, as well as gain first class GCSE Results.

ADVANCE NOTICE - YEAR 7 Learning Programme – Assessment Week 1 From Wednesday 7th December to Friday 16th December 2016 (inclusive) all students in Year 7 will be undertaking assessments in the subjects they are currently studying. It should be noted that all assessments are cumulative and therefore based potentially on anything that your son/daughter has studied during this academic year to date.
The Year 7 assessment will be based on a substantive piece of work in their subject from which a teacher is able to give a fine GCSE grade (1 to 9). Year 7 students will complete their examinations in their classrooms under exam conditions.
Please find attached the exam timetable so your son/daughter is aware of when their examinations take place. Please could you encourage and support your son/daughter to prepare thoroughly for these exams as they will give them a good indication of the progress they have made to date.
I have included some guidance around revision and preparing effectively for exams. For example, in the lead up to the examinations your son/daughter should be completing approximately 2 hours of independent revision per day. Your son/daughter should be very clear about what is being examined from their class teacher.
I have asked all teaching staff to set revision homework via Show My Homework for the next few weeks until the examinations have been sat which your son/daughter should record in their planner.
I trust that you find this information useful and that we are able to best work together to ensure that your son/daughter continues to make progress in all the subjects they are studying. Mr Cunningham, Deputy Head Teacher - Director of Studies

We will gratefully take any size clothes and they do not need to be brand new, underwear aside. Please make sure any shoes you are kind enough to donate are

COMPETITION

Over the coming fortnight staff and students will be working together in in the
hope to fill a container with clothes and shoes to be sent across to the Greek
Island of Lesvos in the New Year.
Despite the reduction of news coverage, boats still arrive weekly full of exhausted
families, in freezing cold temperatures and forced to keep moving. We are working
closely with a charity based in Thessaloniki which aims to protect the most
vulnerable groups such as children, women and the elderly and we can help by
simply providing them with clean and, more importantly, dry clothes to wear for
their onward journey.
