Get creative with Christmas meals. When eating Christmas dinner and theturkey on Christmas day -- it isn'tcomplete without the crackers, novelties, paper hats, mottos and jokes. And don't make the meal gross, likecranberry sauce mixed with squash andmashed potatoes.
Make people laugh with puns. e.g. on acomputer stick a notice on such asPlease will yule log off yourcomputers when finished. Also don'tmake a strange and confusing pun like"That elf is a Rude-elf" It can causeconfusion.Use mistletoe! If you have aboyfriend/girlfriend,wife/husbandyou are friendly with a boy/girl, ask fora Christmas kiss. Try taping themistletoe to a hat and walk aroundwith it on, make sure you avoid the
wrong person.Be generous and give. Donate yourtime and/or money to those in need.Think of how you would feel if youwere less fortunate. Try to make thosewho are suffering better. Try and do agood turn for someone, you could doanything from holding the door opento taping some quarters on to avending machine with a note.Give gifts! It wouldn't be Christmas ifno one gave anything.Smile, smile to anything andeverything. City Of Omaha - Snow RemovalHome and Business Owners
Homeowners and business owners havesnow removal responsibilities that helpkeep our City safe. By practicing a fewcommon courtesies, traveling aroundOmaha can be better for everyone.Clear sidewalks promptly; especially ifyour walk is next to a busy road. Ifpedestrians are forced to walk in thes t r e e t , a c c i d e n t s c a n o c c u r .Unfortunately, City Street crews willrepeatedly plow and re-cover sidewalks. We apologize for the problem thiscreates but it is inevitable. Sidewalksshould be cleared away from the streetrather than pushing the snow backtowards the street.
Clear snow around fire hydrants. Do notbury hydrants with snow from walks ordrives.Do not plow, shovel or blow snow backinto the street. This often creates adangerous refreeze condition. Salt on thestreet melts the snow which thenrefreezes as temperatures drop.Keep your mailbox clear. City crewshave to remain a couple feet away frommailboxes while plowing to avoiddamaging them. Often this leaves awindrow in front of the mailbox thatprevents the mailman from reaching it.The U S Post Office requires that thestreet in front of mailboxes be cleared orthey may not deliver mail.Be a good neighbor. The good deed willbe returned. Whether it is running thesnow blower a few extra feet down yourneighbor’s walk or making sure youdon’t blow snow on your neighbor’salready-cleared driveway, these
considerations will be remembered. If your home has stairs or steep walks, consider using ice melt. It will preventsnow from thawing and refreezingcreating a very treacherous condition.Source: www.cityofomaha.org

Christmas Around The WorldWhether it's leaving some treats out forSanta and his reindeer or simplydecorating the tree, Christmas time is fullof family traditions. But just how do children and theirparents celebrate Christmas in othercountries across the globe?More than two billion people celebrateChristmas globally every year, so we'veput together a fun guide to some of theunusua l ways in which o thernationalities mark the occasion...
SerbiaTradition: Tying up mum and dadHere it's not tradition to give presents atChristmas, but on the Sundays before. Two Sundays before December 25th thechildren tie up their mum. She then has topay a ransom in the form of gifts to befreed. The following Sunday the samehappens with dad.
GermanyTradition: Santa's spooky helperAs a part of celebrations in Germany aswell as Austria and some parts ofSwitzerland, St Nikolaus (the saint onwhom many countries base Santa Claus)is accompanied by a scary devil-likecharacter as a warning to children no tobe bad. In France there's a similar figurecalled La Pere Fouettard.
ItalyTradition: Presents on a broomstickA good witch called La Befana deliverschildren's presents on January 6th usinga broomstick rather than a sleigh. But ifyou've been bad – expect lumps of coal.
ScandinaviaTradition: Porridge instead of cookiesand carrotsAcross the region a gnome like character- called Tomte in Sweden and Nisse inNorway - is believed to protect barns andbrings presents too. Every Christmas thechildren leave a bowl of porridge out forhim.
SpainTradition: A different sort of ChristmaslogIn the region of Catalonia traditionalNativity scenes get a cheeky addition in
the form of a character called the'caganer'. And there's no polite way tosay this – the figure is squatting as ifgoing to the toilet. Sometimes they areshepherds, but can even be footballers orpoliticians.
AustraliaTradition: Rudolph the red nosedKangarooOf course Down Under Christmas fallsin summer. There tradition has it thatFather Christmas swaps his reindeer for'six white boomers' or kangaroos. It'salso traditional to enjoy a barbecue onthe beach on the big day.
IndiaTradition: Decorating mango treesFor Christians on the sub-continent firtrees aren't common. Instead mangotrees are often decorated instead andmango leaves used to brighten up homes.
GreenlandTradition: Rotting bird feastThe hardy folk in the Arctic Circle tuckinto some unusual dishes. Kiviak isdecomposed bird that has been wrappedin sealskin and buried under a stone forseveral months. They also feast onmattak, slices of raw whale skin.
UkraineTradition: Spider webs on the treeIt may sound more like a Halloweentradition than a Christmas one butUkrainians decorate their Christmastrees with spider webs. Legend says thata magic spider once visited a poor familyat Christmas and turned the webs in theirhome into gold and silver.
GreeceTradition: Basil and burning shoesBasil is wrapped around a cross and usedto sprinkle holy water around the houseto ward off mischief making goblinscalled killantzaroi. It's also traditional toburn old shoes for good luck in thefollowing year.
VenezuelaTradition: Roller-skating to ChurchIn the capital, Caracas, roads are closedoff so that locals can blade to morningmass – they even tie pieces of string anddangle them out of the window so, if theyoversleep, passers-by will be able to tugon the string and wake them up.
BrazilTradition: Presents in shoesBrazilians celebrate the legend thatanimals gain the power of speech onChristmas night while children here gettheir presents in their shoes rather thanstockings from Papa Noel.
JamaicaTradition: John Canoe paradeChristmas time is marked by the 'JohnCanoe' parade, which dates back to thetimes of slavery, where people dress upin wacky masks and costumes. Curriedgoat is often on the menu for Christmasdinner.
MexicoTradition: Carving radishesIn the run up to Christmas time theFestival Of The Radishes sees farmingfolk carve the vegetables into humanfigures, including those from nativityscenes.
PolandTradition: Iron under the tableThe main meal is on Christmas Eve.Poles place a piece of iron under theChristmas dinner table to make sureeveryone has strong legs. The table legshave to be strong too – there aretraditionally 12 courses, two of whichare carp.
