s part of the UAE’sNational Day, AMSISchools commemorated

the nation’s 41st anniversary in aday-long celebration with severalactivities initiated by the schools.Al Mawakeb Schools and ISASwere adorned with giant UAEflags, UAE-themed balloons,confetti and traditional displays toportray the spirit of solidarity andunity that mark the National Daycelebrations. Festivities at ISAS were opened with the Scouts parade and the UAENational Anthem. In addition to the horse and camel riding corner, henna and facepainting corner we had Emirati food stalls offering traditional UAE treats, such as,luqeymat and khabeesa cooked by local women. At the UAE culture and heritage tent,visitors were greeted with the traditional date and gahwah (Arabic coffee), which areoffered on arrival and are kept available through the guests visit. Students and visitors alikewere given the chance to get a true understanding of the Emirati traditionalcraftsmanship, foods, perfumes instilling a sense of identity among the young generations.At the entrance of Al Mawakeb Schools in Al Garhoud and Al Barsha, visitors weregreeted with UAE pins, flags and decorated cupcakes to get them into the spirit. Onceinside the premises of the schools, friends and guests were able to experience authenticUAE hospitality, including traditional Arabic Yola dance by local students, Dabke showsand a National Day parade lead by students dressed in national dress. There was also an

opportunity for people to take photographswith a falcon, the national bird of the UAEthat is symbolic of force and courage. At AlMawakeb Al Barsha, the day ended withGrades 1 & 2 students forming the message‘Proud of UAE’. Scouts troupscommemorated the event by transformingthe Dubai Skyline to the “Spirit of theUnion” painting.

It is hard not to gaze upon the towers ofDubai and not feel a sense of childlikeenchantment and wonder. It is a citywhich seems to have gracefully pierced theveil between imagination and reality;between what was, what is, and whatcould be. A city that seemingly walked

away from the imagination of a child at the exact moment of fancy anadult might have explained the concept of a city through the pages ofa fictional novel or anecdote. We look up at these monuments ofsteel and glass and see a remarkable feat of human progress. And tomark this incredible feat, look closer and notice the flag, always in thebackground: red, white, black and green. Look back down and see thevery colors of that flag reflected in the people that raised it there,humbled by what they’ve built yet ever so hopeful of what they canstill achieve. Look closer now at the schools and see the same color-ful children sing songs of praise and join the flag in its triumphantdance. Some of them weren’t born here, but they call it home just thesame. The UAE has already achieved much in forty-one years, and asthey raise the flag ever so higher, no doubt it dances madly with joyat what new heights it is still bound to achieve in the next forty-one.

Appartenance, amour et passion sont les grands titres qui reflètent nossentiments envers nos Émirats Arabes Unis. Cette majestueuse patrieenlace ses sept émirats sous un seul esprit: “l’esprit de l’union”, deprospérité et du développement moderne. Cet esprit creusé dans noscœurs, est fêté d’une manière extraordinaire chaque Décembre. Etcomme chaque année, notre grande famille «Al Mawakeb» unissait tousses membres: Administration, professeurs et élèves pour célébrer cetteformidable occasion. Une semaine d’avance, tout le monde s’apprêtaitpour ce grand jour. Les façades sont garnies par les couleurs du drapeauÉmirien. Les chansons nationales régnaient, les activités et les prépara-tions quotidiennes décoraient chaque coin de l’école. Une joie débor-dante inondait nos cœurs. Voici le grand jour! Dans une ambiance

ornée de fierté, tous nos élèves ont fêté les 41 ans de l’Union des Émirats. Ils ont touché nos cœurs en incarnant les costumes et laculture de ce fantastique pays à travers les tableaux, les chansons, les danses traditionnelles et les poèmes. Les plus frappants ont étéles scouts par leur défilé et leur serment. Surprenant les spectateurs, les jeunes filles ont couronné la célébration par un tableaucréatif décrivant l’histoire des Émirats: d’un calme désert… aux gigantesques grattes – ciel. Quelle grandiose, quelle manifestationéclatante! Vive les Émirats, vive la prospérité, vive l’Union.
