How can it be December already? A whole year has passed again. I am another year older and hopefully wiser (I had better be because I am run-ning out of time here!). I hate that it is getting dark so early. It seems as if there is no evening at all, just work and night. It affects my attitude. I have begun to “humbug” due to all the holiday commercials on TV, which seemed to have started right after Halloween. The rush and bustle seems to take priority over all other normal activities for many people. Just the number of toy runs and Christmas parties can make a person dizzy. The closer to Christmas it gets, the more frantic the pace. No wonder people get stressed out during the holidays! For me, there is a calm in the middle of this tempest. I do not participate in a lot of the things that others associate with the holidays. No late night shopping. No office parties. No travel. I prefer to stay at home and enjoy the smell of Molly cooking and the clamor of the kids and grand children in the house. I love the Christmas tree once it is up and Molly has 40+ years of Christmas trappings that have to be displayed. All of this brings back fond memories of Christmases past. I remember those who are no longer with us as I relive moments from years gone by. But most of all I remember the true meaning of Christmas. It is a high holy day for Christians, and on Christmas morning it is our tradition to read “the Christmas Story” aloud from the Bible before we open the first gift. We take turns each year. Luke Chapter 2 tells us that Joseph and Mary were returning to Bethlehem to be taxed and Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable because there was no room for them at the Inn. An angel announced to some shepherds “…I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today …. a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” THIS IS THE REASON I CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS! The presents that we share at Christmas are symbolic of the love of God and His Gift to us: Jesus Christ. Being an American, a Christian, and a biker, I accept oth-ers as they are and Jesus does, too. This Christmas, I hope that you realize that God loves you and accept His Gift. Merry Christmas!

Honda Of Winston-Salem Ladies Night

By: Caroline I was very happy to attend Honda Of Winston-Salem’s first Ladies Night on Octo-ber 20th. It was very well attended and had lots to see and do. Upon arriving, I greeted friends and then ventured to the food table and fixed a plate that was very tasty. I also took part in a wine tasting sponsored by Wine Merchants Gourmet of Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. Then, I made my way around the spacious showroom, to take in the great looking street bikes and riding gear. I will have to go back to ask about ordering a part since the Parts counter was packed with ladies ordering and looking for the latest things for their rides. One of the highlights of the evening was guest Bob Penn, who is the Forsyth Tech Basic Riders Education Instructor. Bob showed us how to properly lift a bike that has fallen over and offered tips for riding at night. There were loads of door prizes such as Mary Kay skin care products, gift certificates, and I won a pink Honda T-shirt that shows their support for the local Susan G. Komen for the Cure® fight against breast cancer. Each lady attending received a goody bag containing a pink bandana, ride beads, Chick fil-A coupon for a free sandwich, 20% off of riding gear, and 10% off service good until November 30. That is sure to come in handy for holiday shopping! Honor Flight RideBy: Steve (Fly Boy) Rowland The Honor Flight Ride is one of my favorite rides to attend. I have been waiting to go on this since ride last year. October 15th was the big day. It wasn’t the longest ride I ever went on, but its one that really matters to me. It was just from the Bea-ver Bar in Murrells Inlet up to Longbeard’s in Carolina Forest. We did have a police escort, from the Horry County Sheriff’s Department. They did a great job, keeping the group together, keeping cars out of our pack, and getting us though all the lights. I would like to thank Deputy Sheriff David Smith, Bill McAdams, Bill Hadden, and Jeff Benton for their services and helping out today. Sign up was between 10 and 12 at the Beaver Bar down on the south end. Joanie and I rolled into the parking lot about 10. There was already about 20 bikes all staged, and ready to go. We hung out, had some free biscuits, sausage, and gravy, did some BSing and were taking plenty of pictures. You can find them at fullthrottlemagazine.com. I met a lovely lady that was looking for a ride with someone. Her name is Giorgina Richardson, when you see her picture online, you’ll see why I was taken aback. She is a very lovely lady who had on sandals and very baggy pants. She just wasn’t dressed to ride. I know she hung around for about hour and a half. Then she met Rhino, a very big biker, who rode a custom VW trike. He gladly offered to give her a ride. Turns out that

she was a two time Honor Flight Guardian, and is going again next flight. FYI The flight is completely free to the veterans, but anyone else goes, like the guardians pay out of pocket. A big thanks goes to these folks as well. The cost of each flight is $60,000. All the money is solely from donations. If you would to get more information go to honorflightmyrtlebeach.com. Honor Flight had Jacci Lobaugh, Kathy, Nancy, and Dawn. They did a great job out there as well. The Old Coots did this ride last year for the first time, and raised a good chunk of money. This year they had about 100 bikes, about 150 registered, and they pulled in a little over $4000. Not bad! That’s 4 grand they didn’t have this morning! The veterans appreciate all the donations that were raised today. There were several vets who showed up today. I think each and everyone of them had a big kiss print on their cheek. One of the biker chicks made it her mission to give each one a thank you with a big kiss. Jeniffer Dawley (aka) Baby Doll used up a whole tube of lipstick. These guys were loving it. The Coots had a silent auction, a Chinese auction, and 50/50 tickets. They had some great stuff. Joanie won a $50 coupon for a new tattoo. Its always fun to win. Ronnie, from Long-beard’s had setup a nice lunch with BBQ, green beans, slaw, rolls, and sweet tea. The day was great, good weather, good friends, good food, good riding, good cause and good times. By: Caroline Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in Winston-Salem, along with the Winston-Salem HOG Chapter really outdid themselves with this year’s Customer Appreciation Day on October 22. For all of you who are regulars there, you know that is the day they raffle off some great prizes, beginning in the morning and drawing a winning ticket every hour. The prizes range from Harley-Davidson leather and riding gear to cash prizes topping up to $400. Plus, on top of the great prizes you could use your ticket stub to get 20% off accessories all day. The grand finale at 3 pm finally arrived when the winner of the brand new 2011 Street Glide was drawn. This year’s raffle bike had to be the most beautiful bike they have given away to date. It has a one of kind custom paint job done especially for this year’s event. Debbie Layne of Lewisville was the lucky winner of this beautiful bike but it was hard to tell who was the most excited - Debbie or her grandchildren who were with her that day. It became obvious that this was the hit of the day. Bikers rode in from all over the state to take in the festivities, grab a bite to eat, and listen to the bands. When I arrived, the band Phil and the Genes were jamming. They seem to be a very popular local choice, as I have heard quite a bit from them this year and it all sounds pretty good. Even though this event came in the fall this year, that does not mean that Smokin’ is slowing down. On the contrary, they have plans to offer folks the best in biker deals right through the holidays, so that everyone can get ready to ride when weather allows until the warm spring days are back again. Soldier deployed to Afghanistan was injured during a combat mission, his vehicle was hit with multiple IEDS that ruptured his ear drum and caused a concussion. He was treated at the wounded warrior treatment facility and was medical dis-charged out of the Army. While interviewing for a job, the family car broke down and needs a new transmission. He needs to fix the car in order to interview and needs help paying for rent and food for his wife and child. 2nd Annual Ride For The Ta-TasBy: Charles Holcombe These cool October mornings are some of the best times to head out for a ride. Especially if you know that you can help make a difference in someone’s life. I know that some are still at home in the comfort of their bed or couch, but they don’t have a clue how much life and brotherhood escapes them. While I’m on the life subject, that is exactly what is develop-ing at Fat Jack’s Pub this Saturday morning as Cassie and I roll into the parking lot with other members of The Uwharrie Chapter CBA. As I am packing up the chaps and coat, I can hear people talking about how the crowd is getting bigger than the last ride. Yep, it’s growing! Fat Jack and Angela are greeting the riders outside and on the inside are Marga Rita and Laura keeping check on the reg-istration table. Jesse Goldin is manning the event t-shirt table while Nub is roaming the bar. Fat Jack has a great Pub, which is perfect for these types of events while Nub and Jesse from Dead Donkey Customs know how to put together a ride. It’s just an all around great combination! Today’s ride is for “Living In Pink”, a non-profit organiza-tion helping provide services to women with breast cancer in Rowan County. If you didn’t make this ride, I hope you’ll plan to attend the next one here, or at least ride for the cause in your area. I can’t think of a better way to spend the day! We are starting the ride with a prayer from Preacher Chris Wil-liams from Woodleaf Baptist Church, who in many people’s opinions is at the top of the “Good People” list. This ride has a great line-up of stops; the first being The American Legion “Hart Post” with hosts Ronnie and Mary Mack. Snacks and refreshments were provided to help hold us over till the final stop. Angela Lowe had one of the most color-ful scooters there. It kinda stands out in the crowd. The next stop is Happy Days in Richfield. You can get a great scope of how many bikes are on this ride when they are spread out in this huge parking area. I met Chris Gordon, the owner of the place. He invited us back for some pool tournaments going on all the time and some brewskies. The third stop is The Rock Bottom Saloon in Salisbury, home of James and the gang. Don’t let this small parking lot fool you; there is about sixty-two acres in the rear, great for weekend events, camping and bands. Hey, are bonfires going on there all winter? James Logan will make you feel at home here. After a cold one there, the ride traveled to The Carriage Room in Salisbury hosted by Heidi Konkle. Hidden in the shopping center on the corner of Jake Alexander and Hwy. 70, it’s around the side of the shopping center just out of sight of the man, and a great li’l ole neighborhood watering hole. Cruising back to Fat Jack’s, the road blockers are blowing by the pack to get back to the front and I can’t tell who the guy is burning rubber and popping wheelies on the 1500 Classic, but I bet his passenger is thankful she is still aboard! This crowd must be getting hungry, huh? Jack’s normal parking lot was full of regulars and others coming out to support the ”Liv-ing in Pink” ride, so we filled the parking aisles on both sides

next to the bar with motorcycles. Let me say the cooks did a fantastic job! I felt pretty safe in line as long as I didn’t get in front of Neal with DDC, he looked really hungry! The door prizes and 50/50 were called and the auction began. A lot of good people contributed a lot of cool stuff for this event. $2885 was raised to help the cause! Widow Maker CDR 6th Annual Poker Run

By: Kathy Johnson Widow Maker CDR had its 6th Annual Poker run on October 16th. This year it was to benefit a boy named Austin Bowes. On August 5th Austin was hit by a car while riding his bicycle. He suffered head trauma and the third vertebrae in his neck was fractured. The turn out for this event was massive! We had 85 bikes with over 100 people. It started out at Crazy Shots on Churton Street in Hillsborough and it was not too early to enjoy some BBQ they had fixed and enjoy a cold one. It also looked like Austin was having a great time. What a great day for a ride! We ended up at Vesuvio’s Italian Restaurant in Roxboro. That is when I got a good look at all the auction items. WOW! There were some great items and some high bids. There was a custom air brushed Widow Maker CDR sign that went for some serious cash. We had lots of bidding wars, a 50/50, and a great poker run. Even in these tough economic times, you see some people that have less give the most. So many donated. I will say Stan with Park East Sales and Rentals left with an empty wallet. We raised $4000. Hank, Anne, and Dawson of Widow Maker CDR thank all who attended and donated in one way or the other. They also wish every one a very Merry Christmas. Fall Swap Meet At Just Hawgs

By: Caroline No doubt about it there was lots to do on Saturday, October 22nd but lots of folks showed up to browse, or buy or trade their extra motorcycle items from the folks who brought their motorcycle treasures to Just Hawgs’ parking lot. I have been coming to these swap meets ever since James Deal started having them. To make the day even more special, lunch is also served for friends and customers that stop by. This time, Tony Hawks showed up to make his special chili (or “chilling” as its sometimes called). One could not ask for a more perfect day - sunshine and temperature in the upper 60’s! I enjoyed a bowl of chili while talking to folks who happened to stop by. There was also a great array of items. It took all of my will power to not go on a buying spree. My favorite was a sweet Honda 360 Dream (late 60’s or 1970) that looked like it had never been ridden. James also brought out some of his in stock items for sale at some drastically reduced prices, which will remain on sale until they are all gone or until the end of the year. Jason Byrd Scholarship Fund Ride

By: FT Staff On a cold but sunny fall day in November, riders came out to sup-port a family left behind suddenly. Police Officer Jason Byrd was just 33 years old when he was bitten by an insect and t passed away suddenly in June from anaphylactic shock. Jason left behind a 3 year old daughter, Alysa, and a child to be born this coming December by his lovely wife Sheri. Sheri thanks the riding com-munity and the Scotland County Law Enforcement for coming out. Scotland County Law Enforcement Association sponsored a well-escorted ride to start a scholarship fund for his children. More than 60 registered riders joined this event. T-shirts, door prizes, and wonderful homemade food by the local Police De-partment were available for all. These officers pulled together a great ride. As I joined them at the after party, I had the pleasure of meeting his very beautiful and pregnant wife, Sheri, and his darling daughter, Alysa, who told me “Daddy put this basket on my bike”, as she proudly displayed it by the motorcycles. Meeting them was a pleasure and my best wishes go to his family this Christmas season. I also got to meet some great bikers from around the state who rode from Raleigh to attend this event. It was nice meeting you all! 6th Annual Kaleb’s RideBy: Rose and Lloyd November 5th was the date for the 6th Annual Kaleb’s Ride. This event is held to raise money for Horizons Residential Care Center for children with special needs. The center is a non-profit organization and depends on donations to give these children some of the necessities of life. The facility houses approximately 30 children, all with special needs, some more severe than oth-ers. Kaleb is a resident of Horizons Resi-dential Care Center and his grandmother, Sandy, has hosted this event and raised several thousand dollars This year it was a very cold November morning as approximately 60 bikers rode to Smokin’ Harley-Davidson to begin the poker run. tiful and scenic ride to Horizons. The children and employees greeted the bikers as they rode in to Horizons. It gives these children such joy to hear the bikes and get attention and hugs from many of the bikers. The smile on their faces and the joy in their laughter warms even the biggest biker’s heart. There was lunch, and a silent auction, a 50/50, and door prizes. Money was awarded to the best and worst poker hands and tro-phies were given to the organization with largest donation. Several organizations were involved this year including the Winston-Salem, Burlington, and Blue Ridge HOG Chapters, United Riders Riding Club, and many individuals. A heart felt thanks to all the Sponsors and ones that donated; Premier Printing, Eagle Products Screen Printing and Embroidery, Euro Leather, Tiger Imports, Moore & Giles, Stadler Leather, Avis Jewelers, Anthem Leather, Stickley Fine Upholstery, MT Airy Walmart, and Winston-Salem HOG Chapter. Wheeling For The Homeless

By: Rose and Lloyd The United Riders Riding Club organized a poker run on October 15th at Thomasville Amphitheater. The ride began at 10am and was escorted by Guilford County Sheriff’s Deputies. Approximately 60 bikes participated in the poker run. We took a beautiful ride through the country and across Caraway Mountain. We would love to have had many more bikes, but were thrilled with the turn out and the safe ride. The proceeds went to benefit “Shepherd’s Inn Homeless Shelter”, a non-profit home-less shelter in Thomasville serving men, woman, and children in Thomasville and the surrounding areas. The shelter is operated solely on donations from private organiza-tions. Their mission is to feed the hungry and give shelter to those who need it. The day was beautiful and men, women, and children came out to enjoy the ride, lunch, live music, and receive great prizes donated by local businesses. There was wonderful music provided by The State Of Praise Singers and The Church Of Tomor-row Singers. Many thanks go to Billy and Dana Parham, Marti Baity, and Judy Parham, and those providing breakfast and lunch. A great gratitude goes out to the United Riders Riding Club. The United Riders Riding Club is a fairly new club, which just celebrated their one year anniversary on 10-10-2011. During that year they have ridden with several chari-ties, and have worked many months putting up flyers for the “Wheeling For The Home-less.” United Riders is a group of family and friends who enjoy riding. They care about the community and the needs therein and are trying to make a difference in a positive way. Sunday Oct 16th, the United Riders Riding Club presented The Church Of Tomorrow a donation of over $2000 during their morning worship service. The Church Of Tomor-row then honored them with a luncheon in appreciation for the shelter. The Shelter also welcomes monetary donations and may be made payable and mailed to The Shepherd’s Inn at P.O. box 262, Thomasville, NC 27363. If only $5 every little bit helps. They also welcome any household items, furniture, clothing, etc. that can be donated to The Thrift Store at 16 East Main St. Thomasville, NC. All profits from the thrift store go to the shelter. 7th Annual Bob & Ginny B Memorial Motorcycle RideBy: David & Terri Cornelius The morning of Saturday, October 15th was dawning to beautiful weather! Sunny, but a little bit chilly. Today was the 2011 Bob & Ginny B Memorial Motorcycle Ride to Benefit Hospice and with the sun and blue skies, the ride was on! Honda of Winston-Salem, the starting point this year, pro-vided the riders with hot coffee, juice, Krispy Kreme dough-nuts, and Chick-Fil-A chicken biscuits. Each rider received a t-shirt, helmet bag, door prize tickets, and a ticket to enjoy the wine tasting event at the Yadkin Valley Grape Festival once the ride was over. Riders from all over North Carolina and one couple from Tennessee participated in the event. Each rider had their own reason for riding today and for the vast majority, it was to give back to the organization that helped them dur-ing a hard time in their lives or to honor the memory of those that had passed on in the care of Hospice. The assistance that Hospice provides to the patients and the families is invaluable and this is a great way to give back to them. Kickstands were up at 10am and we were off to our first stop, Childress Vineyards. After beautiful ride through Forsyth and Davidson counties, and a behind the scenes tour of the vineyard, we headed over to the Masonic Picnic Grounds in Mocksville for a hamburger/hot dog lunch. Then, once everyone had finished eating, we drew the door prizes for the lucky individuals. Next, we took a short hop over to RayLen Vineyards where the riders went behind the scenes as well as

drawing their last cards for the poker hands. Once the ride ended at the Yadkin Valley Grape Festival, the riders were able to get their wine tasting armbands and enjoy tasting the wines of 26 different vineyards pouring at the Festival. Now they can look at the bottle and really know what it took to get the wine in there! At the end of the day, the riders (45 motorcycles and 59 riders) had ridden approximately 75 miles and raised over $1200 for Mountain Valley Hospice and the Hospice & Pallia-tive Care Center in Winston-Salem. This amount will be split equally between these organizations. We continued our trend of increasing both the motorcycles and riders from the previ-ous year and hope to grow again next year as well. I would like to thank the sponsors of the event: Jim & Lisa Drum, Cain Tire & Automotive, Vintage Inn Bed & Breakfast, The Third Branch, Battle Branch Café, CW Electric, Security Underwriters, and David & Terri Cornelius. Thanks for Novant Health for providing the helmet bags and the cool goodies that came with them. As usual, Ken at Funtime Promotions did his usual great job printing the ride t-shirts! I want to extend a special thanks to Honda of Winston-Salem for the use of their store during the check-in for the ride. We can’t say enough good things about them! I would also like to thank the volun-teers from both Mountain Valley Hospice and the Hospice & Palliative Care Center that helped out in many different ways from running check-in to cooking up lunch. Thanks, ladies! Thanks to the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Department for provid-ing an escort for the riders once we came into Yadkin County. Tilley H-D Welcomes Back Vickie

By: Alan Dockery One of the best-known and well-loved women in motorcy-cling is back at work. The first person you see when you walk through the front door at Tilley Harley-Davidson in Statesville or hear on the phone, Vickie Kress, is on the job again. Vickie has been the receptionist for the Tilleys since 2003. On the first Saturday in November a big crowd gathered at Tilley’s for a benefit to welcome Vickie back. Don & Robin-ette Tilley, their employees, and the Statesville HOG Chapter worked together to make a special day for one of their own. Vickie discovered breast cancer in July and on September 6th choose to have a double mascetomy. She is pictured here with her family during the event and sharing a wonderful day with a great turn out. They even made her wear a tiara and feel like a queen for the day! Activities included an on-site poker run and lunch cooked by Bucky Oates and a friend, with the HOG Chapter serving everyone. The “Part Time Blues Band” cranked out tunes for the afternoon. There was a huge bake sale that made me go back for more treats, a 50/50 drawing, and wonderful door prizes. The children were entertained with a Bema Bouncer and face painting. Besides lots of motorcycles, there were some cool classic cars, too. Don Tilley also displayed a couple of his classic motorcycles. The 1941 was sweet but the other bike was my favorite. It was the bike well known in the motorcycle racing field as the one and only “Lucifer’s Hammer.” This is the Har-ley that for years in the 1980’s whooped the best from the rest of the world on the roadracing circuits. “Despite the chilly wind it was a bright and beautiful day at Tilley Harley-Davidson and meant a lot to me,” Vickie said. “Everyone was so great to help out and this event will be a day to remember. The Firm That Rides - Rides Coast to Coast

As many readers know, the slogan for Tom McGrath’s Mo-torcycle Law Group is “The Firm That Rides.” That slogan has been met, often and understandably, with skepticism. There are countless attorneys out there that claim to be riders. That generally means they will do a poker run on a weekend (if the weather is good) or ride their bike for a photo op. Many of you reading this know that we really do ride. We have ridden to events throughout not only the Carolinas and Virginia, but to events throughout the country. For instance this past September we rode out to Detroit, Michigan for a Motorcycle Riders Foundation event. However, this past Oc-tober was the best ride I have taken with members and friends of the firm. On October 20th, Jim Cannon, the Director of The Virginia Coalition of Motorcyclists, Chad Fuller, who runs our Co-lumbia, South Carolina office, and Ralph Bell, who is with ABATE of South Carolina, rode with me down to Jacksonville Florida. On October 21st we woke up and rode to the beach. The four of us walked out and stuck the toes of our boots into the Atlantic Ocean. After that we jumped on our bikes. Forty-three hours thirty-six minutes later we stuck the toes of our boots into the Pacific Ocean. It was a great ride. For the most part the ride was uneventful, which is good. However two things caused slight concern. The first was when Ralph’s, Chad’s, and my low fuel light came on in the middle of the desert in Texas. Jim has a new Road Glide with a six gallon tank so he was good. The rest of us were sweating it un-til a service station came into view. We limped in and decided that we would shorten fuel stops to every 100 miles. The other occurred shortly after we hit California. It was a close encoun-ter with a gator. The ruptured truck tire variety not the reptilian variety. I hate those damn things! Other than that all was fine and we made it into San Diego safe, sound, and tired. The trip back was more relaxing. We rode parts of Route 66 and even stopped in Winslow, Arizona to get a picture of the four of us standing on a corner there. In Amarillo, Texas Ralph and Chad munched on mountain oysters while Jim and I commented on the appropriate condiments for such a fare. The

entire ride ended up being over 5,900 miles of pure bliss. The hardest part of the ride was not the length or duration. It was packing. Due to the time of year and route we rode in heat, cold, wind, rain and even a little sleet. Gear went on and came off constantly. If you have not had the opportunity to ride cross-country, I would highly recommend it. 14th Annual M.D.A. Bike Show

By Scott Wicker Beautiful weather greeted over 40 entrants on Saturday, October 15th when Davis Harley-Davidson in Burlington, NC and the Burlington H.O.G. Chapter held their 14th Annual M.D.A. Bike Show. Over 21 categories of entrants made up an impressive turn out of bikes. Several interesting items were part of the silent auction and raffle tickets were sold that always contributes to the annual fundraiser as well. A $50 gift certificate was awarded to the winner of each class and a $200 gift certificate was awarded to The Best Of Show. Great Food was available and spring like weather made this a very en-joyable and fun day. Through the bike show, sales of special event pins, and the silent auction, over $2,000 was raised for M.D.A. The 36th Annual CBA Fall Swap Meet

And Bike Show

By: WildThing You know, anybody or any group that does something for 36 years has learned a little something along the way and has experienced some measure of success. The Charlotte Chapter of Concerned Bikers Association, under the direction of Rick Nail has done just that. I wasn’t around 36 years ago, so I cannot testify to the beginnings of this semi annual event. But I have been attending the CBA Swap Meet at least once if not twice a year for the past thirteen years, and I say it has a life of its own set in motion years ago and hopefully it will never stop. The party location is the Metrolina Expo Fairgrounds in Charlotte where several buildings and a huge outside vendor area are utilized to put on this show. There is so much going on it is hard to see everything in one day. There were humon-gous amounts of motorcycle parts for the connoisseur that was building a specialty motorcycle or restoring an antique. There were also plenty of late model parts and accessories to replace your lost or broken items. Add to that a myriad of biker type leather goods, riding gear, t-shirts, rally information, and bike shops from around the Carolinas showing off their capabilities. Wait – there’s more! Live music, wet t-shirt contests, tattoo contests, adult beverages (read beer and liquor), food vendors, and a ride in bike show. OMG what else could you ask for? Even the non-rider would be captivated by the variety that we bikers are used to at the Charlotte Swap Meet. Above all, it is a meeting place for old friends and acquaintances to come together to recall all the stories of the good old days. There is nothing quite like a good swap meet for any biker to slip back into the groove and put aside the cares of today’s world and just enjoy for a little while. Remember the Charlotte Chapter of Concerned Bikers As-sociation puts on this show twice every year, so if you missed it, you will have another opportunity in March 2012! Come on boys, bring it on and I’ll see you there next spring!

The 20th Annual Haywood County

Toy Run

By: Jeff Deal Saturday, November 12th was the 20th Annual Haywood County Toy Run. A perfect mountain day seem to have ev-eryone in a giving mood as about 1000 bikes lined up for the parade starting in Canton, NC and ending up at the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley. This ride has raised over $100,000 and an unknown number of toys for area chil-dren and families. WTT has hosted the ride for the last six years and was ready with barbeque for over 1500 people. The bikes filled the WTT parking lot and then starting filling the parking lots of nearby restaurants and places closed for the winter. Later that after-noon the museum held its annual Motorcycle Raffle Drawing for a restored 1936 Harley-Davidson Knuckhead. Chris Hem-minger from Centreville, Maryland was the winner and Chris also received a limited edition painting of the bike by David Uhl.

Happy 1st Birthday Freeborne’s South

By: Caroline On October 22nd, Freeborne’s South celebrated their first year here in Winston-Salem. Everyone around here has en-joyed Freeborne’s up in Laurel Springs in the summer as they ride the Blue Ridge Parkway. Quite a number of us have also found that their newest addition here in Winston-Salem to be the place to go for great food, the hottest local bands, and tons of fun. This past year, Freeborne’s South has brought biker entertainment to the Forsyth County area to a level that has raised the bar for competitors. Beginning with their Thursday night bike nights with live music to Friday and Saturday night live music to their World Tavern Poker on Tuesday nights, there is something going all week long. Did I mention the food? I have never had anything to eat there that was not just delicious. It’s not fancy, just plain good with fresh ingredients. If you don’t believe me, just check out their lunch specials. Freeborne’s South has also become quite a popular place for folks to book parties regardless of whether or not they ride. Guess they know that bikers know where to have a good time! Speaking of a good time, loads of folks came out to help cel-ebrate Freeborne South’s first year, and they were not disap-pointed. First of all, it was a beautiful fall day and there were many who took advantage to ride out. Freeborne’s showed their appreciation by serving up hotdogs and hamburgers cooked outdoors on their grill and enjoyed the live music all day. When I got there Risky Bizness was playing and never sounded better. Even though a day like that makes it hard to see winter weather move in, I look for Freeborne’s South to have some good things planned for the days ahead. Streets Of Gold Hearse Company

By: Kathy Johnson Since our motorcycles and our life styles reflect our person-alities, shouldn’t our send off, no matter what our beliefs or non-beliefs are, reflect that, too? When Mike Wall envisioned, created, and built the Streets Of Gold Hearse it is easy to tell just from looking at it that he had a lot of our readers in mind. When I saw it I was taken back, but I wanted to get inside of it and check it out. Without seeing it, the detail and work that went into it was really hard to grasp. I asked Mike why he wanted to build it and his response was that he had seen a motorcycle hearse when he went to Daytona and his friend of 30 years, LB, had recently passed away. So when Mike came home he researched it and at that time there were only 20 in existence. Then his friend Tom passed and he knew that Tom would have liked his last ride in a motorcycle hearse instead of a Cadillac coach. So Mike went to work on it and with some help on upholstery and some help from his brother Andy, son-in-law, Brandon, and friend David with the welding, he got it done. Pride Construction also helped him with fabrication. As for the name, Mike was having a tough time with that. And then one night, sitting up till 2 am in his garage, it came to him. In 2008 his mother died from breast cancer and his aunt said to him, “Your mother is walking the streets of gold and would not want to come back”. Three weeks after that his aunt passed away, so I am sure they are walking together now. Well, my opinion on this is that it gives RIP a whole new spin and a much better ride to get you there!

ALR Post 55 Bike Show

By Caroline One thing about the American Legion Riders at Post 55 in Winston-Salem, NC; when they do something, you can be sure to have a great time with a great group. On October 22, they held a bike show with that had wide participation to raise funds for their charitable initiatives for veterans. Along with the show, vendors were invited to come and take part and the legion kitchen was open for business with their famous burg-ers and wings. There were also Iguana Races and Timothy May brought his 1942 Harley-Davidson Recon Scout. Around 3 pm the activities wound down and it was time to award the trophies to the winning bikes. For the third year in a row, Jeff Hufford did an awesome job of designing and mak-ing the trophies for the following winners: Cheryl Penn - Trike division; Mike Connors - Old School; Mike Payne - Standard; Rick Dunlap - Metric; and Mike Pruitt took first place for Custom and won the People’s Choice. As always the ALR put on a great event that was fun and served a good cause. By: Gypsy Girl Wow! November 5th was a sunny but chilly day to go for a ride. What’s better than a toy run? Toy runs are always a great reason to spread some Christmas cheer. Shelton’s H-D in Smithfield, NC began the toy run with Santa Clause and Ms. Clause leading over 100 motorcycles on their way with a full police escort leading the way. They rode down Hwy 70 and around the down town area of Goldsboro, NC to Shelton’s H-D in Goldsboro were there were plenty of folks eagerly waiting to see Santa and the parade of motorcycles that fol-lowed Santa into the parking lot. Boy, oh boy! Was it a pretty sight to see shiny, beautiful colors and all the cheerful riders. It was great! Not to mention the sounds of all the loud pipes rolling in! Here we were waiting with some kicking music rocking the back ground while the folks were lining up for some hot coffee to warm up and great BBQ! The weather was still a bit chilly and windy as we fought the wind to keep our plates as the plates were trying to fly like the wind. The Shiners were collecting the toys in the pretty red trailer. As all the toys and donations are going to the Shiners Hospital for Children. There are going to be many happy faces! All of those bright eyes and smiles of the kids there. Wow! That will be such a beautiful sight. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. It turned out to be a great day. Everyone in attendance had a good time. It was a great way to start off the Christmas season. A big “THANK YOU” to everyone who made this such a great day for all! Until next time “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”. American Children’s Home Ride

By: Caroline Every year in November, it is a tradition that the American Legion Riders from Post 55 in Winston-Salem ride to Lexing-ton to visit the kids at the American Children’s Home. This year the ride was on November 13th. For over 80 years this organization has been providing a safe, loving, environment to children who are victims of abuse, neglect, or abandon-ment. The American Legion Riders have made this one of their major funding projects; providing school supplies, funds, and Walmart gift cards for each child. Each year the kids are

always waiting for the bikers with homemade signs ex-pressing their love and gratitude. It really makes one’s own problems trivial when viewed from this perspective. Then we were invited inside the gym where they had prepared cookies, coffee, and soft drinks. We enjoyed the snacks as the kids entertained us with songs and speeches. The highlight was when Wendie Lewis contacted her hus-band Ken who is currently in Iraq. As a past ALR President, Ken has been instrumental with the ALR’s support of the Children’s Home. Nevertheless, the kids presented plaques that each child had signed to the ALR and a special one to be sent to Ken Lewis. They also presented a plaque to the Winston-Salem HOG Chapter who has been very supportive and have joined us on this ride every year. After the program we let the kids sit on the bikes. It is something that the kids look forward to every year. It is amazing that such a simple thing seems to make them so

happy! One thing is for certain, anyone who has helped to support these kids and come with us on this ride, would find it hard not to think about them as we go through our holiday preparations with friends and family. If you would like to come with us and participate next year, look for the date in November in the Cruisin’ Calendar. You will find it an unforgettable experience and want to return every year.

Scorpions M/C 26th Annual Toy Run, Bike Show, & Blood Drive

By: Melissa Diane Farmer On Saturday, November 5th, Scorpions M/C hosted their 26th Annual Toy Run, Bike Show, and Blood Drive. The Toy Run, Bike Show, and Blood Drive has become the official name of the event, however, there is no longer an actual “run” due to its growth over the years. The event, held at the Fraternal Order of Eagles on Highway 58E in Sutherlin, VA, is prepared for all year long, and is one of the Danville biker community’s most popular events. The purpose of the toy run is to provide toys for underprivileged children in the Danville area. All proceeds benefit the Salva-tion Army’s Toys for Tots. A $10 admission fee got you in the gate. Outside, a Salvation Army truck stood at the ready to receive toy donations from attendees. Inside the gates there were several vendors. Among this year’s vendors were Kickin’ Kenny’s paint designs. Kickin’ Kenny is one of the best when it comes to customizing your bike’s paint scheme. Mr. Bullhide (Brian Beardslee), out of Sherrills Ford, NC, had leather jackets, helmet stickers, vests, leather bags, pins, and other biker accessories. Of course, with any biker event, there has to be jewelry around! Wrenn Sterling had an amazing selection of beautiful, shiny silver on tables clothed in black velvet. Rebel, from The Rebel Connection had T-shirts, bandannas, patches, blankets, and many other treasures set up there as well. He came along with an embroidery machine for custom work! Blue Moon Tattoo and body piercing was on hand as well. They do gorgeous work if you are in the market for a little ink. You can find them on Facebook. Another feature of the event is the Blood Drive. The Dan-ville Blood Mobile is always on site taking donations. There are many who “gave the gift of life” at the toy run. Bikers and biker friendly people came out in droves to help raise money for the kids. A 50/50 drawing was held several times during the day. Half of the money goes to the toy run, the other half goes to the

lucky winner! The bike show is one of the more popular aspects of the event. It was free and all one had to do is to pull their bike in and register. Votes are made by donations from the people at-tending the show. Each bike is assigned a chicken bucket and the bike with the most money (votes) in their bucket at the end wins the bike show. Steve Mitchell, from Danville, VA, won 1st Place in the bike show. Six bands generously donated their time and talents to the children. Streamline, Comfort Zone, Full House, Southern Storm, Loaded Guns, and Mad House did a wonderful job performing everything from country to blues to rock. This year is the 2nd year that the Scorpions M/C, Danville, VA Chapter, has given away a brand new Harley-Davidson Sportster. Raffle tickets were sold all year at $20 each. Scorpion Rick made sure the tickets were mixed up really well. Corey of Thunder Road Harley Davidson, who also an-nounced the winner of the Harley-Davidson, drew the ticket. And this year’s winner is Armondo Labiosa! Congratulations, Armondo, on your new Harley-Davidson! Keep the greasy side down! A huge thank you on behalf of the Scorpions M/C, the Salva-tion Army, and all the children in the Danville, VA area that you all helped out on this year’s Toy Run!

BBQ Cook Off At Ray Price Harley-Davidson

By: WildThing November 12 was a very busy day at Ray Price Harley-Da-vidson in Raleigh, NC. Billed as a Veterans Day Celebration, there were all kinds of military discounts and special pric-ing in the dealership available for active and retired service members, there was an LOH Chapter pancake breakfast in the morning to raise money for their pet charities, a Red Cross blood drive going on from 11:30 till 4 in the HOG meeting room upstairs in the dealership, and the BBQ cook-off outside. South Saunders Street was blocked off to through traffic and the fourteen teams of BBQ experts and their pig cookers were set up in the grassy area across the street from the dealership. The band Mirror 7 was on the outside stage providing music for all to enjoy. Near perfect fall weather just made the day for the cookers and outside vendors for this event as well as all the tasters who came to enjoy. The cooking teams registered Friday evening and after the cooks’ meeting each team’s 100 pound pigs were cooked all night long, each according the individual cookers ritual. In the morning each pig was tested to be sure they were done and the teams proceeded to chop or pull their pork according to their preference. The imaginary gong went off around 11:30 am and motor-cycles began pouring in Saunders Street and filling up parking spots on both sides of the street and the riders were greeted by hearty aromas of cooked pig. Special portions were first off the grill for the celebrity judges, Bob Dumas from Bob and the Showgram, Lisa Bumgarner from Champps, Ben Lipetz from Hooters and Derek Wilkins from The Meat House, who were doing a blind taste sampling for cash prizes and trophies. For a $5 donation, anyone could taste to their hearts content and vote for their favorite BBQ in the Peoples Choice competition. After acquiring a wristband and a plate, everyone lined up at the first tent and tasted their way down the street till they had tasted all 14! Make no mistake they were all different, as Mark and I can attest, and each flavor delightful in itself! In about an hour and a half every last morsel of 1400 pounds of BBQ had

been consumed and the teams were cleaning up. At 2pm, Kris Weiss, Marketing and Promotions Direc-tor for Ray Price Harley-Davidson, summoned everyone, cookers and tasters alike, to the outdoor stage for the trophy presentation. He introduced Barry Porter from Triangle Red Cross, beneficiary of the monies raised at the BBQ Cook Off, who thanked all the sponsors of the cooking teams, the cooks, and all the willing tasters and judges who participated. He mentioned that Triangle Red Cross was still actively helping families affected by the tornado that ripped through Raleigh on April 16th and the $3,000 raised today would surely help. Imagine a drum roll here. In the judges’ opinion, the third place trophy and $100 went to Redneck Scientific, Jerry Stephenson. The second place trophy and $250 went to Two Guys and a Pig Barbecue, Hunter Hinnant, and the giant first place trophy and $500 was awarded

to the Dunn and Bullock Team of Charles Dunn and Randy Bullock. All the braggin’ rights and the Peoples Choice award went to Freedom Biker Church’s Bonafide Q. It was a really great day at the Ray Price Harley-Davidson dealership and be sure to watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for the other two big RPHD cook offs: Brunswick Stew in March and Buffalo Wings in July. Madison County Toy Ride

By: Jeff Deal Every year on the third Saturday of October, Madison County holds a toy run to help families in need at Christmas time. This year the weather was perfect for a ride of any kind. The leaves were brilliant colors, 70º, a band, food, all of the prizes, a 50/50 drawing, everything you are used to but this one is just a little different. Madison County is a small but very beautiful place. They only have three townships and none of them much bigger than the fictional town of Mayberry. Everyone knows their neigh-bor and has known them their entire life. So when they set out to help the kids at Christmas they know the names of the families and the kids. I ask a lot of people how long they have been holding the ride and they only knew how long that they, themselves, have been riding in it, and that ranged from 4-15 years. They have had as many as 300 riders and helped up to 150 families and this year’s turnout was very good. Santa was there as well as Hobo, the pig, and, yes, I did say pig. If you don’t know anybody in Madison County, just say hello and most of the time you have a new friend. Benefit For Anslee Leblanc

By: Rose and Lloyd A spectacular event was held at Last Call Sports Bar and Grille at 1330 National Highway in Thomasville on November 12th. Just Ink Tattoo Studio and Last Call Sports Bar and Grille held the event. The place was packed with support, family and friends. All who came had an open heart in all efforts to help this brave little girl fight and win her battle with Leukemia. Anslee LeBlanc, one-year-old daughter of Guy and Mary LeBlanc, granddaughter of Lee and Kay Bennett and John and Donna Nicholls was diagnosed with Leukemia on 10/17/2011. Anslee has undergone chemotherapy and the benefit was to help the family with medical expenses. Anslee is a beautiful and brave little girl with a smile that lights up everyone around her. Eagle Products Screen Printing and Embroidery printed T-shirts with a beautiful picture of Anslee and the words Anslee’s Angels. She did have angels around her that day. The Jimmy Leggs Band entertained the crowd. Jeff Beck held the auction and T-shirts were sold, a 50/50 was held, and there were drawings for prizes. Two boys were walking home from Sun-day school after hearing a strong preach-ing on the devil. One said to the other, “What do you think about all this Satan stuff?” The other boy replied, “Well, you know how Santa Claus turned out. It’s probably just your Dad.”

One particular Christmas season a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for his annual trip, but there were problems ev-erywhere. Four of his elves got sick, and the trainee elves did not produce the toys as fast as the regular ones so Santa was beginning to feel the pressure of being behind schedule. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa that her mom was coming to visit. This stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two had jumped the fence and were out, heaven knows where. More stress. Then when he began to load the sleigh one of the boards cracked, and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered the toys. So, frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cup-board, he discovered that the elves had hidden the liquor, and there was nothing to drink. In his frustration, he acciden-tally dropped the cider pot, and it broke into hundreds of little pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found that mice had eaten the straw end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and irritable Santa trudged to the door. He opened the door, and there was a little angel with a great Christmas tree. The angel said, very cheerfully, “Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t it a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?” Thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree

Everybody knows who I am.” “I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must follow them.” “I am urging you please to cash this check.” “Ok, this is what we can do Mr. President: One day Tiger Woods came into the bank without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putting iron and made a beauti-ful shot across the bank into a cup. With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check. Another time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racquet and made a fabulous shot, making the tennis ball land in my cup. With that spectacular shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you, as the president of the United States?” Obama stands there thinking and finally says, “Honestly, there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can’t think of a single thing I’m good at.” “Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?”

As a little girl climbed onto Santa’s lap, Santa asked the usual, “…And what would you like for Christmas?” The little girl stared at him open mouthed and hor-rified for a minute, then gasped, “Didn’t you get my E-mail?”

A drunken cowboy lay sprawled across four entire seats in the posh Amarillo Theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the cowboy, “Sorry, sir, but you’re only allowed one seat.” The cowboy groaned but didn’t budge. The usher became more impa-tient: ”Sir, if you don’t get up from there I’m going to have to call the manager.” Once again, the cowboy just groaned. The usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment he returned with

the manager. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the cowboy, but with no success. Finally they summoned the police. The Texas Ranger surveyed the situation briefly then asked, “All right buddy what’s your name?” ”Fred,” the cowboy moaned. ”Where ya from, Fred?” asked the Ranger. With terrible pain in his voice, and without moving a muscle, Fred replied, ”The balcony.”

In a small Southern town there was a “Nativity Scene” that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me. The three wise men were wearing firemen’s helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left. At a “Quick Stop” on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, yelling at me, “You damn Yankees never do read the Bible!” I assured her that I did, but simply couldn’t recall anything about firemen in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage. Sticking it in my face she said “See, it says right here, ‘The three wise man came from afar.’”

John woke up after the annual office Christmas party with a pounding head-ache, cotton-mouthed and utterly unable to recall the events of the preceding evening. After a trip to the bathroom, he made his way downstairs, where his wife put some coffee in front of him. “Lou-ise,” he moaned, “Tell me what happened last night. Was it as bad as I think?” “Even worse,” she said, her voice ooz-ing scorn. “You made a complete ass of yourself. You succeeded in antagonizing the entire board of directors and you in-sulted the president of the company, right to his face.” “He’s an asshole,” John said. “Piss on him.” “You did,” came the reply. “And he fired you.” “Well, screw him!” said John. “I did. You’re back at work on Monday.”


Christmas At The Gas Station The old man sat in his gas station on a cold Christmas Eve. He hadn’t been anywhere in years since his wife had passed away. It was just another day to him. He didn’t hate Christmas, just couldn’t find a reason to celebrate. He was sitting there looking at the snow that had been falling for the last hour and wondering what it was all about when the door opened and a homeless man stepped through. Instead of throwing the man out, Old George, as his custom-ers knew him, told the man to come and sit by the heater and warm up. “Thank you, but I don’t mean to intrude,” said the stranger. “I see you’re busy, I’ll just go.” “Not without something hot in your belly.” George said. He turned and opened a wide mouth Thermos and handed it to the stranger. “It ain’t much, but it’s hot and tasty. Stew ... Made it myself. When you’re done, there’s coffee and it’s fresh.” Just at that moment he heard the “ding” of the driveway bell. “Excuse me, be right back,” George said. There in the driveway was an old ‘53 Chevy. Steam was rolling out of the front. The driver was panicked. “Mister can you help me!” said the driver, with a deep Spanish accent. “My wife is with child and my car is broken.” George opened the hood. It was bad. The block looked cracked from the cold, the car was dead. “You ain’t going in this thing,” George said as he turned away. “But Mister, please help ...” The door of the office closed behind George as he went inside. He went to the office wall and got the keys to his old truck, and went back outside. He walked around the building, opened the garage, started the truck and drove it around to where the couple was waiting. “Here, take my truck,” he said. “She ain’t the best thing you ever looked at, but she runs real good.” George helped put the woman in the truck and watched as it sped off into the night. He turned and walked back inside the office. “Glad I gave ‘em the truck, their tires were shot too. That ‘ol truck has brand new.” George thought he was talking to the stranger, but the man had gone. The Thermos was on the desk, empty, with a used coffee cup beside it. “Well, at least he got something in his belly,” George thought. George went back outside to see if the old Chevy would start. It cranked slowly, but it started. He pulled it into the garage where the truck had been. He thought he would tinker with it for something to do. Christmas Eve meant no custom-ers. He discovered the block wasn’t cracked; it was just the bottom hose on the radiator. “Well, shoot, I can fix this,” he said to himself. So he put a new one on. “Those tires ain’t gonna get ‘em through the winter either.” He took the snow treads off of his wife’s old Lincoln. They were like new and he wasn’t going to drive the car anyway. As he was working, he heard shots being fired. He ran out-side and beside a police car an officer lay on the cold ground. Bleeding from the left shoulder, the officer moaned, “Please help me.” George helped the officer inside as he remembered the training he had received in the Army as a medic. He knew

the wound needed attention. “Pressure to stop the bleed-ing,” he thought. The uniform company had been there that morning and had left clean shop towels. He used those and duct tape to bind the wound. “Hey, they say duct tape can fix anythin’,” he said, trying to make the policeman feel at ease. “Something for pain,” George thought. All he had was the pills he used for his back. “These ought to work.” He put some water in a cup and gave the policeman the pills. “You hang in there, I’m going to get you an ambulance.” The phone was dead. “Maybe I can get one of your buddies on that there talk box out in your car.” He went out only to find that a bullet had gone into the dashboard destroying the two-way radio. He went back in to find the policeman sitting up. “Thanks,” said the officer. “You could have left me there. The guy that shot me is still in the area.” George sat down beside him, “I would never leave an injured man in the Army and I ain’t gonna leave you.” George pulled back the bandage to check for bleeding. “Looks worse than what it is. Bullet passed right through ‘ya. Good thing it missed the important stuff though. I think with time your gonna be right as rain.” George got up and poured a cup of coffee. “How do you take it?” he asked. “None for me,” said the officer. “Oh, yer gonna drink this. Best in the city. Too bad I ain’t got no donuts.” The officer laughed and winced at the same time. The front door of the office flew open. In burst a young man with a gun. “Give me all your cash! Do it now!” the young man yelled. His hand was shaking and George could tell that he had never done anything like this before. “That’s the guy that shot me!” exclaimed the officer. “Son, why are you doing this?” asked George, “You need to put the cannon away. Somebody else might get hurt.” The young man was confused. “Shut up old man, or I’ll shoot you, too. Now give me the cash!” The cop was reaching for his gun. “Put that thing away,” George said to the cop, “we got one too many in here now.” He turned his attention to the young man. “Son, it’s Christmas Eve. If you need money, well then, here. It ain’t much but it’s all I got. Now put that pea shooter away.” George pulled $150 out of his pocket and handed it to the young man, reaching for the barrel of the gun at the same time. The young man released his grip on the gun, fell to his knees and began to cry. “I’m not very good at this am I? All I wanted was to buy something for my wife and son,” he went on. “I’ve lost my job, my rent is due, and my car got repos-sessed last week.” George handed the gun to the cop. “Son, we all get in a bit of squeeze now and then. The road gets hard sometimes, but we make it through the best we can.” He got the young man to his feet, and sat him down on a chair across from the cop. “Sometimes we do stupid things.” George handed the young man a cup of coffee. “Bein’ stupid is one of the things that makes us human. Comin’ in here with a gun ain’t the answer. Now sit there and get warm and we’ll sort this thing out.” The young man had stopped crying. He looked over to the cop. “Sorry I shot you. It just went off. I’m sorry officer.” “Shut up


and drink your coffee, “ the cop said. George could hear the sounds of sirens outside. A police car and an ambulance skidded to a halt. Two cops came through the door, guns drawn. “Chuck! You ok?” one of the cops asked the wounded officer. “Not bad for a guy who took a bullet. How did you find me?” “GPS locator in the car. Best thing since sliced bread. Who did this?” the other cop asked as he approached the young man. Chuck answered him, “I don’t know. The guy ran off into the dark. Just dropped his gun and ran.” George and the young man both looked puzzled at each other. “That guy work here?” the wounded cop con-tinued. “Yep,” George said, “just hired him this morning. Boy lost his job.” The paramedics came in and loaded Chuck onto the stretcher. The young man leaned over the wounded cop and whispered, “Why?” Chuck just said, “Merry Christmas boy ... and you too, George, and thanks for everything.” “Well, looks like you got one doozy of a break there. That ought to solve some of your problems.” George went into the back room and came out with a box. He pulled out a ring box. “Here you go, something for the little woman. I don’t think Martha would mind. She said it would come in handy some day.” The young man looked inside to see the biggest diamond ring he ever saw. “I can’t take this,” said the young man. “It means something to you.” “And now it means some-thing to you,” replied George. “I got my memories. That’s all I need.” George reached into the box again. An airplane, a car, and a truck appeared next. They were toys that the oil company had left for him to sell. “Here’s something for that little man of yours.” The young man began to cry again as he handed back the $150 that the old man had handed him earlier. “And what are you supposed to buy Christmas dinner with? You keep that, too,” George said. “Now git home to your family.” The young man turned with tears streaming down his face. “I’ll be here in the morning for work, if that job offer is still good.” “Nope. I’m closed Christmas day,” George said. “See ya the day after.” George turned around to find that the stranger had returned. “Where’d you come from? I thought you left?” “I have been here. I have always been here,” said the stranger. “You say you don’t celebrate Christmas. Why?” “Well, after my wife passed away, I just couldn’t see what all the bother was. Puttin’ up a tree and all seemed a waste of a good pine tree. Bakin’ cookies like I used to with Martha just wasn’t the same by myself and besides I was gettin’ a little chubby.” The stranger put his hand on George’s shoulder. “But you do celebrate the holiday, George. You gave me food and drink and warmed me when I was cold and hungry. The woman with child will bear a son and he will become a great doctor. The policeman you helped will go on to save 19 people from being killed by terrorists. The young man who tried to rob you will make you a rich man and not take any for himself.” That is the spirit of the season and you keep it as good as any

man.” George was taken aback by all this stranger had said. “And how do you know all this?” asked the old man. “Trust me, George. I have the inside track on this sort of thing. And when your days are done you will be with Martha again.” The stranger moved toward the door. “If you will excuse me, George, I have to go now. I have to go home where there is a big celebration planned.” George watched as the old leather jacket and the torn pants that the stranger was wearing turned into a white robe. A golden light began to fill the room. “You see, George ... it’s MY birthday. Merry Christmas.” George fell to his knees and replied, “Happy Birthday, Lord Jesus”

BFBF Annual Fall Poker Run

By: Jeanie Hood We were a bit worried prior to this event. Even though we know things are always good at Legend’s Pub, there was at least 5 other events in the area scheduled for the same day. We arrived about 10:15 to get set up. Ron Lau was already at Legend’s at the table for the poker run participants. Ron, one of the officers with Bikers For Bikers Foundation and well known at Legend’s for always helping with their events, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer. He didn’t let the dis-ease nor the side effects of chemo keep him away. By 10:45 our first bike pulled in, with a crew from Blistering Pines (Raleigh) & Zebulon not far behind. During the set up we learned that the “Save the Ta-Tas” Poker Run was stopping at Legend’s and had some of the same stops as we did on our run. I wasn’t real sure how well this would work out. As the bikes pulled in so did a young lady to deal the cards for the Ta-Tas run and she was all smiles. Things were moving along and within a short time groups of bikes were coming for their cards from the other run. That turned out good for us. When they learned of our poker run and the way it was set up, they could be doing 2 poker runs at one time, and many did just that. So now we had our participants and some of the others as well. It was great. There was a lot of activity going on with all the bikers for both runs coming in and going out. We even met some of the people from Facebook and from a couple of the other biker internet sites. That was crazy cool. Holly (owner of Legend’s), Mike Brown, and Carrie Lau were steadily cooking food. Mickey and I were working the tent for memberships, tee shirts, and explaining who we were and what the organization does to those who didn’t already know. Believe me, it was steady, fast, and fun. There were people from all over the US participating being as we are next to Ft. Bragg, and NC folks from Louisburg, Zebulon, Raleigh, Jacksonville, and even a couple from Alabama. Last bike was in by 5pm and the food was ready, thank goodness. After a poker run bikers are always hungry, but I can’t remember when I’ve seen any hungrier. Everyone was eager to eat, asking how fast the food would be ready, and the

whole crowd was laughing and going on about how much fun it was to ride in 2 poker runs at once or meeting up with the other riders at the stops. It was a blast and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. The menu was fried chicken, deviled eggs, cheesy potatoes w/jalapenos, coleslaw, potato salad, and I don’t even know what else. There was so much food! When Ken Nuzum started the auction around 6pm things really got fired up. Like I’ve said, Ken could sell the ugly off an ape and make you laugh the whole time he’s doing it! The big item was a huge stuffed pink pig from the Carolina State Fair that went for a whopping $150. And, it was quite the site to see Joel drive off with the big pig bungee corded to the yel-low Harley he rides! He had a 2.5-hour ride with that pig and I hope he didn’t cause any accidents because it was a major distraction! He is definitely a loyal member and obviously a loving grandfather. After we all laughed till our sides hurt from the auction / comedy hour with Ken, Mac played the guitar and sang. Mac has a wonderful voice and the ability to sound like most of the original artist. He really put a nice touch on this event all while sporting the vest he got at the comedy hour auction. I believe a few ladies said something about him getting hot or maybe he was hot. Anyway, people were still eating Carrie’s deviled eggs and the fried chicken. If you ever get the chance to watch Axel “Bigun” eat deviled eggs you better have a cam-era. It is an entire show all by itself! Mac was the artist on the guitar but Axel is definitely an artist when it comes to eating deviled eggs. Those eggs were so good, he was telling people they were poisoned in hopes no one would eat them and he could take them home! The final touch of the day was one of the traditions Holly has at Legend’s. When one of her regular patrons passes away they put a plaque on the “Wall of Fame” and do a toast in the person’s honor. This day would end with the honor of toasting Rob Nichols and the dedication of his plaque. Rob was not only a patron but also a vet who was killed in a motorcycle accident one year before in Fayetteville. His wife, “Cat”, who also rides, was there for her late husband’s toast, along with about 100 friends who came out of respect for their lost friend. It was an honor to have this the same evening as our event and the perfect way to end a perfect day with great people. And whatever that shot was, I want a pitcher of it the next time. Gooood stuff! A person would have to win the lotto or get a new grandbaby for it to get any better! As always, Holly and the folks at Legend’s out did them-selves, everyone had a great time, and it was a very, very good day. BFBF got 19 new members and made money to help those in need. Everyone had a blast! BFBF will have another benefit for an Autistic child in Janu-ary at Ray Price H-D, so watch The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine Cruisin’ Calendar for that event. And, if I ever hear of Carrie taking deviled eggs to one of the future events or someone donating a pig...I’m taking a video camera!


Honoring Staff Sergeant Chris Newman

By: Jan Whisnant The Patriot Guard Riders and Rolling Thunder, CBA, Cleveland County Independent Bikers along with local bikers escorted 26-year-old Cleveland County, NC native, Staff Sgt. Chris Newman from the Shelby, NC Airport to Cleveland Funeral Services on November 6th. Staff Sergeant Newman served as a mental health specialist for the U.S. Army seven years and had only been in Afghani-stan a few months. He was killed by a suicide bomber in Ka-bul, Afghanistan on Oct. 29 that also left 12 other Americans dead. The Associated Press labeled the attack as one of the deadliest strikes against the US-led coalition in Kabul since the war began. The funeral was held at Bethel Baptist Church on November 9th. Around 160 bikers participated in the funeral procession passing thousands of people clustered in front of churches, schools, and businesses along the funeral procession route. Staff Sgt. Newman received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star as well as several other service medals. He was also posthumously promoted to Staff Sergeant. He was buried in Cleveland Memorial Park. The Patriot Guard Riders is a national web-driven organiza-tion that calls on riders to participate in rides called missions that include troops’ funerals, homecomings, and send offs. The group was founded to counteract the way veterans were treated on their return from the Vietnam War, to show support for the military, the family, and also to provide protection from protestors. The volunteers only attend events when invited by the service members’ families.

Chopper Toyz 5th Annual Ride-In Bike ShowBy: Pedro So, where were you on the afternoon of October 30th? If your answer wasn’t “Chopper Toyz in Morehead City”, then you were not at the place to be! The an-nual event thrown by Neon and Janice, owners of the establishment, was once again a success, but if you were there you know that. Despite temps topping out just under 60º, the lots were filled with bikes and people having a good time, spilling well over into the Ruby Tuesday’s parking next door. The vendors offered a little bit of everything from hot chocolate and face painting to custom bike parts and ser-vices, truly making this a family event. Burgers, dogs, and cold sodas were being sold as well, so you could come out and make a day of it. Some of this year’s vendors included Newport Moose Lodge, Tricked Out Trikes, ESP Pinstriping, Black Creek Leather Wurkz and Salon Strandz. Also on the scene were the 252 Crew from Knucklehead Kustomz, along with several of their sweet rides. Speaking of sweet rides, the Ride-In Bike Show had some high quality participants this year. Unfortunately, in all of the day’s excitement, I forgot to get a list of the winners. But don’t be mad at me, I told you all last spring to mark this event on your calendar so you would not miss it. In addition to the hot rides registered for the show, there was plenty to see in the surrounding parking lots. There were some really nice bikes out there! But don’t take my word for it. Merry CHRISTmas! Yes, CHRISTmas. Not Xmas, not Holiday Season, not Sea-sons Greetings, but CHRISTmas! No short cuts or removals of the real reason we celebrate. Many want to remove Christ from Christmas and make it a holiday season. Instead I suggest you have another time for your holiday season and leave CHRISTmas alone. The birth of a Savior for all mankind is much more important than a “holiday season”. Besides, no Christ in Christmas is like no V Twin in a Har-ley; what’s the point? Looks kinda useless to me. More and more everything about Jesus is being removed from public at-tention. No manger scenes on the town property, no Christmas Parades but Holiday Parades, no Merry Christmas from store employees, no Christmas carols but holiday music. How sad, a Christian nation without Christ! Then there is us, the bikers. We are not ashamed to say Merry CHRISTmas. We are not embarrassed to be politically “incorrect”, to ride in the Christmas Parade, to sing Christmas Carols, and to have Christmas parties, and Christmas dinner with our family and exchange Christmas presents, and give toys so kids can have a Christmas present. We are not ashamed to be thankful for the Truth of Jesus Christ, born in a manger, but King of Kings and Lord of Lords. A Savior who is Christ the Lord!

CHRISTmas is an exciting time of year, not just because of the presents, but also because of His Presence! Not because of the holiday, but because of the Holy Day! Not because of the tree, but because of the One who created the tree! His Name is Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the Living God! Luke 2:11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Is He your Sav-ior? H-D Of Greensboro Chili Cook-Off

By: Buzz Saturday, November 12th, Harley-Davidson of Greensboro held its annual Chili Cook-Off. There are many ways to enjoy a beautiful fall day in North Carolina, and this is one of them! This year instead of being a spectator, I decided to enter my chili recipe for judging. I let the chili cook all night and forced myself to not eat it! On the morning of the contest, I was ready for some chili! I arrived at the dealership and set up my chili pot on lucky #7. I was definitely going to need some luck! There were 6 other really good chili recipes waiting to be judged! Before the judging opened to the public, the cooks all got a taste of the competition, and let me tell you, it was goooooo-ooood. There was a sweet Texas chili, chili that included pepperoni, a “knock your socks off” chicken chili, and others with their own special twists. I have never met a chili I didn’t like, and apparently I’m not the only one that feels this way! Around 100 people showed up to take a taste and cast their vote for their favorite chili. We were spooning out chili for 3 solid hours. When it was all said and done I had spooned out the required 8 quarts (2 gallons to you and me) only having had to turn away 1 taster. After the tasting and judging was over, Amy Jacobson of Harley-Davidson of Greens-boro counted the votes and announced the winner. This year’s chili champion is Randy Dillard of Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, served by Dale Norris. Randy was awarded a $200 gift certificate to Harley-Davidson of Greensboro, just in time for the Christmas shopping season, lucky guy! Want to get a taste of that award winning chili? Gate City Lanes is located at 5502 Hornaday Road in Greensboro, NC. They always have great beer specials, too! Although my chili didn’t place, I had a great time serving up my recipe to the folks who came by. If you missed out, don’t worry, there is always next year!
