The work is expected to be completed in March 2012 at an estimated cost of $11.5 million. “It has been nearly 20 years since many of these streets have been resurfaced and if there’s one thing the City can do to improve the quality of life for Honolulu residents, it’s fixing our roads,” said Councilmember Chang. “I’ve fought hard for better roads for the whole island since I became Councilmember and I am very pleased to announce that the City is now repaving some of our busiest roads. These repairs are long overdue and will reduce wear and tear on our vehicles.” This past year, Councilmember Chang restored $32 million in funding to the Department of Design and Construction for the rehabilitation of streets. He also chairs the Committee on Public Works and Sustainability, which oversees matters pertaining to the city’s public infrastructure including roads and street repair. “I led the charge to fully fund road maintenance with $77 million in this year’s budget,” Councilmember Chang. “I will continue to fight for better roads by requiring all road repairs to be maintained proactively to an objective standard, coordinating utility work with repaving so newly paved roads won’t be dug up, and reducing maintenance costs by increasing the use of recycled materials in our roads.” Subsequent to these road repairs, the State will commence their repaving along Kalanianaole Highway. The Kalanianaole project was initiated through the efforts of Senator Pohai Ryan and Representative Mark Hashem. Kuliouou Rd. Councilmember Stanley Chang today announced that the City began work today on several roads in East Honolulu.

These repairs are long overdue and will reduce wear and tear on our vehicles.”

This past year, Councilmember Chang restored $32 million in funding to the Department of Design and Construction for the rehabilitation of streets. He also chairs the Committee on Public Works and Sustainability, which oversees matters pertaining to the city’s public infrastructure including roads and street repair.

Subsequent to these road repairs, the State will commence their repaving along Kalanianaole Highway. The Kalanianaole project was initiated through the efforts of Senator Pohai Ryan and Representative Mark Hashem.
