Hello Residents,
Regency is full of festivities for the month of December. We have a calendar full of groups that will be coming to Regency to share Christmas carols with the residents. The community will be filled with music and decorations for this holiday season.
The residents are looking forward to another door decorating con-test. The judging will take place on December 17. A prize will be given to the winner.
Our traditional Christmas Dinner will be on Wednesday, December 18th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. We will need a head count for seating, so please RSVP by Friday, December 13, 2019 by calling 731-661-9888. We are looking forward to seeing everyone.
Please take this opportunity, if you haven’t already, to meet our new Administrator, Carol Wright. She comes with hard work ethic and has spent the last 17 years in the plasma industry, with the last three in a management role. Her goal is to continue to make the residents and staff at Regency proud to be a member of such a wonderful community.

The residents love to see this group of ladies perform. The Tip Top Tappers are a group of retired ladies that volunteer their time performing for the elderly. They come ready with tap shoes and different outfits ready to perform. It’s about a 30 minute show, but it’s worth your time watching them. The residents are encouraged to join them.

Congratulations to Ms. Crews for being selected for the resident spotlight. Ms. Crews was born and raised in Madison County. She started school at Whitehall, and later moved to Alexandra School. She ended up graduating from Jackson High School.
After high school she attended nursing school in Memphis, TN. She became so home sick she came back to Jackson and worked at WTBC for a while. Ms. Crews ended up finding her own job at The Metropolitan Insurance Company as a Senior Clerk. She worked there for about five years before taking a job at Southern Supply.
She has one child and two step-granddaughters. In her spare time she loved crochet-ing, gardening, and woodworking. Mrs. Crews has the most charming personality. Her favorite activity at Regency is Bingo.

FUN FACTS
» The Statue of Liberty was gifted to the US by the French on Christmas day in 1886. It weighs 225 tons and thus you could con-sider it as the biggest Christmas gift in the world.
» It’s believed that the origin of Christmas dates back to ancient Egyptians and Romans, who marked the winter solstice with ever-greens as a reminder that spring would return soon. But it wasn’t until Prince Albert of Germany introduced the tree to his wife, Queen Victoria of England, that the tradition really took off.
» In 1647 Oliver Cromwell, English Puritan leader, banned the fes-tivities of Christmas for being seen as immoral on such a holy day. Anyone who was seen celebrating was arrested! The ban was lifted in 1660.
» Bicycle, the US playing card company, manufactured cards to give all the POWS in Germany during World War II as Christmas pres-ents. These cards, when soaked in water, revealed an escape route for POWs. The Nazis never knew.
» “Jingle bells” was composed in 1857, and not for Christmas – it was meant to be a Thanksgiving song!
» Kwanzaa was introduced in 1966 and named for the time of year when African tribes traditionally celebrated the first harvest of their crops.
» Saint Nickolas, who would eventually be called Santa Claus, was originally the patron saint of children, thieves and pawnbrokers!
