Toddler News from Ms. Ginny & Ms. Pam

Can it really be December already?? This school year is really flying by!

We enjoyed our month of transportation and also talking about opposites for a few days. I do believe a lot of the chil-dren were understanding the concept of opposites. You can continue talking about this at home (big/little, night/day, up/down, etc). The highlight of the month was when the fire truck and am-bulance came! They truly enjoyed this! Thanks to Kim and Monisha (head of the Boosters) for getting this orga-nized for us! We truly appreciate all they do!

Thanksgiving lunch was wonder-ful! Thanks to all you great parents for bringing in yummy dishes and contrib-uting towards the chicken so this could be possible. It was a fun lunch and a great way to mingle with other parents in our classroom. Hope you all had a won-derful Thanksgiving and maybe even got a little shopping done:)!!

In December we will be talking about Nursery Rhymes and

focusing a lot on our Holiday program songs. Please try to have your children here by 8:30 a.m. every day so they won't miss practice. It takes a lot of practice to get ready for the program. Please remember that they will need to wear Christmas pajamas to the auditorium that night. The date is Wednes-day, December 14 and will be held at the Rome City Auditorium on Broad Street. The time is 6:30p.m. and the children need to be at the Auditorium by 6:10 p.m. You don't want to miss it! Our last day before Christ-mas break is December 16. This is a half day only, toddlers dismissing at 11:00. It will be pajama day for us and we will watch a Christ-

mas movie and have a special snack for the children. We return to school on Monday, Jan-uary 2.

Please be sure to label all their jackets and hats, etc. It's really hard to keep up with what be-longs to each child if not labeled. If they like it a lot, they will tell us it's theirs, even if it's not :)

Toddler News from Ms. Shannon & Ms. Dana

December is here! The holidays are coming full force! We have already started practicing for the holiday program. This month we will talk about nursery rhymes. We will also continue with opposites because the kids enjoyed transportation so much we didn't cover opposites as much as I wanted. We will also talk about different holidays that are celebrated this month.

The holiday program is December 14 at 6:30 at the Rome City Audito-rium. Please arrive by 6:10 at the latest! I purchased the outfits for the class with the $45 activity fee that you paid (if you haven't paid it,

please send it in). I would like the boys to wear dark shoes and their girls to wear white tights and dark shoes. I'll send home their outfits the day of the performance so they can come dressed that night. I have tried them on to make sure they fit.

The day after the program is pajama day! The kids need to wear tennis shoes though so they'll be ready for the playground. We will watch a movie and have a fun day!

The last day of school is December 16. It is a half day. We will release at 11:00. We will have a small party at snack time. If you would like to send something in please let me know. School will resume January 2.

Thank you so much for allowing Da-na and me to work with your chil-dren. They are so precious! It's won-derful to come to a job where you get to make such a difference and are

loved so unconditionally. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!!

Hello!!!

I can not believe December is here

already!

In December, we talk about holi-

days from around the world. We

have begun our discussions of tradi-

tions and how every family has dif-

ferent traditions. These talks are

always a great transition into how

people celebrate different holidays

around the world. We have started

to discuss how Christmas is cele-

brated around the world. The chil-

dren were excited to learn that

Santa goes by different names.

Talk to your child about some

of your family's traditions

around the holidays so they

can share it with the class.

We love for parents to come

in to read a story to the chil-

dren this time of year. Maybe

you have a favorite Christmas

book at home, or maybe you

have a special Christmas book

from your childhood. We

would love to hear it. Let me

know if you would like to

come in to read to the class,

and we can figure out the best

time. We would also love to

hear about any traditions or holidays your

family celebrates. I am hoping I

can convince my mom to come in to talk

to the kids about Three Kings Day. Since

my mom grew up in Puerto Rico, my fam-

ily always celebrates Christmas and Three

Kings Day.

If your child would like to bring in a

Christmas book to share, they are more

than welcome to do so. Please make sure

their name is on it. I want to make sure it

gets back to the correct house.

I will send an email soon about costumes

for the holiday program and

the music so the children

can practice.

This is such a joyful time of

year. I love getting to enjoy

it with the children. They

get so excited for everything

we do. Each ornament we

make is the most beautiful

work of art to them, and

they really take their time

trying to figure out where to

put it on the tree. I love

watching it. It is a busy time

of year, but it is always fun.

Thank you for all you do!

Primary News from Ms. Angie & Ms. Nikki

I hope everyone is enjoying the

weather. The rain was

nice. Thanks to everyone for

making our Thanksgiving feast

amazing. The children and par-

ents seem to have enjoyed it. The

food was wonderful, and the chil-

dren looked so cute in their cos-

tumes.

The holiday program takes a lot of

time, but it is so much fun and the

children enjoy it so. The parents

and grandparents love seeing their

precious ones on stage. This year

we are going to look and be amaz-

ing once again. I am excited to

see everyone there.

December is a crazy month but

lots of fun. We will study holi-

days around the world and focus

on how other countries cele-

brate this season. The children

enjoy learning about the differ-

ent ways that Christmas is celebrated around the

world. Then, we share how we celebrate the holi-

days with our families.

This is the time of year that makes it feel so grate-

ful for all that we have. Ms. Nikki and I are

blessed with the most amazing families that share

their precious little ones with us. We are thankful

for each of you. Our class is perfect because each

of you are a part of it.

Musings from Ms. Melanie

You may have noticed the ACS Security truck in the parking lot recently; they

have been working this week installing the new state of the art fire alarm system. I

wanted to share some of their remarks about our students. James from ACS came

to me and said he wanted to let me know this was the best experience they have

ever had working in a school. He said “it was an absolute pleasure working here;

your students were very curious but some of the most polite students we have

ever seen, and we work in many Floyd County, Rome City and private schools in

the area”. He said they enjoyed talking with our students and noted their desire

to learn. We always get many compliments on the behavior of our children; all

those grace and courtesy lessons we give here and that you reinforce at home do

make a difference! Ms. Shemi and I love hearing these types of compliments!

An interesting tidbit—last evening, I was watching The Big Bang Theory and was

pleased when one of the characters stated he was researching the local Montesso-

ri school for his friend who was expecting a baby! Since this show is about physi-

cists and engineers, of course they are looking at the best method for learning!!

This year as always, I want to share the wise words that Ms. Kumar told me when

I was a young parent like you all (long ago). She said at Christmas and the holi-

days, remember that you are the best gift you can give to your children. Give

them the gift of your time. They will treasure it through the years.

Ms. Shemi, MSR Faculty , MSR staff and I thank you for giving us the gift of

your children each day. Watching them learn and grow is so fulfilling!

Elementary News: Ms. Stefanie and Ms. Maggie

We hope that everyone had a happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed their break! We want to thank the ones that came to

celebrate Thanksgiving with us and brought a dish for our classroom feast. Ms. Dagmar taught us how to make her

homemade applesauce! We also enjoyed making cranberry bread in Botany class and learning how to follow a recipe.

We are looking forward to all of our Christmas activities. Our class’ international country is Mexico. If anyone would

like to visit the classroom to share an international holiday tradition, make a dish or make an ornament with the class,

please contact one of us! We hope that all our families will be able to attend the December 14th concert at 6:30 p.m. at

the Rome City Auditorium. Students need to be at the auditorium at 6:00 p.m. Costumes—Shirts: please send $5.00

for a white t-shirt for your child. Ms. Shemi is decorating them for the program. Pants: Girls wear black standard

footed tights. (We will provide a red skirt to go over them). Boys: please wear black pants. December 16th is a

half school day. You are welcome to bring a snack or dish throughout the morning for the class to enjoy during our

classroom celebration. We are having a gift swap on the 16th as well. Please bring a $1 gift. Boys please bring a boy gift,

and if you are a girl please bring a girl

gift. Thank you!

Elementary News: Ms. Dolores & Ms. Annie Hello and Happy December!

We had such a fun Thanksgiving feast here

at school, and we hope you all enjoyed your

holiday. Thanks to all the families that

brought dishes, and an extra special thanks

to Melissa Hickman and Melinda Brown for

organizing the event and decorating our

room for the occasion.

Of course, the fun never stops here in Low-

er El! We will be having birthday lunch on

December 9th to celebrate our November

(Isabel Damen) and December (Callie

Dempsey, Devi Sok, and PJ Schlitz) birth-

days. The students' families will be provid-

ing lunch and dessert that day.

We enjoyed the Frozen production today! It

was great to see our Upper El and Adoles-

cent students perform! Christmas is fast

approaching and every day things get a little

more festive around here. The students

have started practicing for the holiday pro-

gram daily, and we're certain you'll love

seeing them perform on December 14th! If

it isn't on your calendar yet, it will be held

at the Rome City Auditorium at 6:30. Stu-

dents should arrive at 6:00.

Our costumes will be simple this year.

Costumes—Shirts: please send $5.00

for a white t-shirt for your child. Ms.

Shemi is decorating them for the pro-

gram. Pants: Girls wear black stand-

ard footed tights. (We will provide a

red skirt to go over them). Boys:

please wear black pants. We'll be

singing a traditional French Christmas

Carol, "Pat-a-pan," in melody with Ms.

Stefanie's class, who will be performing the

Spanish carol, "Fum, Fum, Fum."

Although the students are hard at work this week

(multiplication! reducing fractions! common and

proper nouns! sentence diagrams!) we want to make

sure that our students get into the spirit. We have

crafts and some other fun things planned, but we

would love for families to bring their talents to our

classroom, too! If you would like to come in to bake

or cook with us, do a special craft, read Christmas

stories, or sing carols, we would love to have you.

Just let us know when you are available. Afternoons

work best for us, but our schedule gets more flexible

as the holiday break approaches.

Speaking of the holiday break... the last day before

break - December 16 - is a half day! We dismiss at

11:30. We won't be having lunch but if you would

like to send in a snack or other treat, it will be that

kind of day. Instead of a gift exchange, we are giving

a gift to the House of the Children’s Academy this

year. Please bring in a book (new or gently used)

to school before December 9. We will wrap them

at school and give them to the House of the Chil-

dren for their library.

Here's a recap if you missed any of the above info:

Birthday lunch is 12/9.

Bring a book to school on or before 12/9. We are

going to wrap them and give them to children at

House of the Children’s Academy. Bring $5.00

for the holiday program costume white t-shirt.

The holiday program is 12/14. Be there at 6:00 .

Show starts at 6:30.

Want to bake, craft, or sing with us? Let us know!

12/16 is a half-day and you can send in a treat for

the class if you'd like. Pick up at 11:30.

We're looking forward to a fun and festive holiday

season!

News from Ms. Rebecca and Mr. Eric Another busy month

has passed at the

Montessori School

of Rome! The Up-

per Elementary has

enjoyed November

thoroughly, taking

advantage of the

warmer than normal

weather with a very suc-

cessful field trip/hike to

the House of Dreams at

Berry College. We

hope you enjoy the

photos from this trip

that will definitely be

repeated in the fu-

ture. The students en-

gaged in fieldwork

while on the

trip, putting

their cartog-

raphy skills to

use as well as

identifying

various land-

forms, the

cardinal direc-

tions, and tree

varietals. The

month closed

with a huge

feast with over

100 attendees.

Stories are still

being shared

about this

awesome lunch and the wonderful guests that joined us.

December may be a shorter month calendar-wise, but it is

packed full in the Upper Elementary! Our main item of

business in the first couple of days of this month is the

FROZEN performance at the Rome City Auditorium. Our

students have worked very hard for this performance which

promises to be a huge success. We will have one final dress

rehearsal/practice on Thursday, Dec. 1stat the Auditorium,

followed by three performances on Friday during the

day. Students are free to go home after the final perfor-

mance Friday (around 2 pm), as they will be meeting again

early on Saturday morning (9 am) for the final performance

of the year.

After FROZEN, we switch gears and prepare for two

more performances. The first is carolling with our friends at

the Renaissance Marquis on December 12th, at 10:30

am. We will need drivers for this performance. This will be

followed by our Winter Performance with the rest of the

school on Dec 14th at 6:30 p.m. Be at Rome City Auditori-

um at 6:00 p.m. Costume-wise, our students will be wearing

black pants, white dress shirts, and a Christmas shirt to

change into for our second song.

Finally, our 6th years continue their fundraising efforts

with a bake sale on Dec. 9th and 10th at Kroger, as well as a

wreath project (details soon). In

terms of our usual events, we will

still have 4H during this month, as

well as Fire Safety. We also plan

to have our "end of book" tests

for Classical Roots before

our break.

We look forward to bringing

2016 to a close in classic MSOR

fashion--busily!
