In chapel and the classrooms, we are talking about waiting patiently. Oftentimes the quality of being patient is hard to find in today’s society. Take time out this Advent to slow down and savor some quiet time – make room in your life for Jesus Christ! Farm Fresh: The Key Tags Have Arrived! For everyone who has been waiting so patiently, thank you! The key tags are in at the Day School office during the week and available at the Welcome Office after each Mass on the weekend.

THE YEAR OF MERCY: In proclaiming the Jubilee Year of Mercy, Pope Francis proclaimed his desire that this Holy Year be “steeped in mercy,” as we disciples “go out to every man and woman,” bringing the “balm of mercy” to “believers and those far away, as a sign that the Kingdom of God is already present in our midst!” (Misericordiae Vultus, 5) In her visitation to Elizabeth, Mary beautifully presents just such an image. Despite the perils of her pregnancy, not to mention her preoccupations as a young unwed mother, Mary instantly, unselfishly “goes out” of herself, hastening far and over dangerous terrain, to “bring the balm of God’s tender mercy” in assistance rendered to her older relative. Since Baptism and the Eucharist have made us, in a way, bearers of the living Christ within as Mary was, such selfless “going out” of ourselves to be of loving service to others in mercy should especially mark our Christmas season this Jubilee Year.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS NEWSThe Knights will be holding their Christmas Party this Sunday, December 20, at 12:30 p.m., at the restaurant “37 North.”
The gifts of God’s eternal love and the Church He gave to guide us to heaven are meant for everyone. It is up to us to share these gifts with the world, starting with those we love and those in our own community. Chances are you know someone – maybe many people – who have left the Catholic Church. Often, all they are waiting for is an invitation to come home, an invitation that can be extended to them by ordinary followers of Jesus Christ, like you and me. (from catholicscomehome.org)
Challenge yourself this year – who can you invite to Mass this Christmas season?
CHURCH OF THE HOLY FAMILY VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA
“BELONGING:”At this time, with so much tension and unrest in our world,
we think it is important that we go deep in our spiritual lives and see how we can be people of peace, justice, and love in our world. Belonging wakes us up to our Christian call to be people of peace and justice. In prayer, conversation, and action, “Belonging” helps us to internalize and live out these Gospel values.
“Belonging” is a small group process developed by the JustFaith Ministries… It is an invitation to transform and deepen our spiritual lives by expanding our hearts and minds… awakening us to our connectedness and unity with all creation. It is an invitation…to live deeply and fully by making room for wonder, wounds and mystery… to listen carefully to Scripture and each other… to draw the world down into ourselves and hold it in prayer. There is a prayerful, reflective tone to each session… holy listening … sharing of a book and several articles… prayers, exercises, and questions that sometimes focus on disturbing social realities.
“Belonging” is a shared spiritual, transformative journey… a structured opportunity to practice living deeply and loving broadly.
Two hour sessions, plus one immersion experience (going to the margins of society) beginning Thursday, January 21, 9:30-11:30 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church. For further information, please contact Renee McCarthy at 486-3375 or [email protected].
SPECIAL CHRISTMAS MESSAGEFROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Holy Family,
“And the Word became fleshand made his dwelling among us,and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son,full of grace and truth.”
This year we celebrate Christmas during the Jubilee Year of Mercy. The title of Pope Francis’ Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy is Misericordiae Vultus. This could be translated as the face of mercy. Jesus is God’s face of mercy.
In the face of misery and wretchedness, human beings need the merciful heart of God. God was so much aware of this that he did not need to wait for us to seek his mercy. He sent his only Son to become the gift and the face of mercy and compassion.
To celebrate Christmas is to encounter the face of God’s mercy so that we in turn become the face of mercy in the world today.
May the Mercy of God come to dwell in your homes today and always. Joy to you, joy to your families and joy to the world!
Fr. Gaudy
“CARE FOR OUR EARTH”According to Consumer Reports’ survey, 92% of Americans think that recycling is good for our environment. But not all of those 92% recycle faithfully because in my opinion recycling can be inconvenient or because it’s not thought about. I believe that to the degree we consider the health of our Earth a priority, to that extent we recycle. So, recycling can be one measure which indicates how important the Earth’s well-being is to us. When it comes to the difficult-to-recycle items (electronic appliances, expired medications), we may not have or make the time to carry them to the location where they are collected; it’s inconvenient! As regards PARISH social events, little thought or effort is required to dump our cups, plates, bowls, and napkins in trash containers. However, sorting out our trash/garbage from the recyclable items can be a bother. Or dumping the liquid in our cups and glasses in containers provided for that purpose before disposing of them in the recycle bin takes extra effort, and is inconvenient. When we are present at social events (whether at the parish or elsewhere) it is important to THINK about recycling even though extra time and effort will be needed. Our parish Environmental Committee has been working to make recycling more efficient. There now are more trash and recyclable containers side by side located around the room. There are signs indicating what goes where. There are containers where the contents of your cups and glasses can be disposed of. What’s left is for those who attend these celebrations to CARE. Bear in mind that “IT’S NOT REALLY RECYCLABLE UNLESS YOU RECYCLE IT.” Ed Marroni – 587-4887 – Holy Family Parish Environmental Committee
THE GIVING TREE COMMITTEE would like to take this time to say thank you very much for your generous donations this Christmas Season. As a church you have made many wishes come true. Thank you and God Bless,The Giving Tree Committee
