EDUCATIONAL CORNER FIRST READING: Isaiah tried to convince King Ahaz to trust in the Lord's might rather than enter into military

alliances with pagan neighbors, but the king's heart was hardened. Out of this conversation comes the beautiful prophecy of the virgin birth to a son who would be named "God with us". This prophecy was fulfilled in the incarnation of Christ, the Son of God, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of Mary. (CCC 497) RESPSONSORIAL PSALM: This beautiful song was written by King David to be used in the "entrance" in to the Temple. The psalm gives a list of directives for proper participation in liturgical celebrations. There is only three mentioned in this psalm as there are eleven in Psalm 15, which convey the same idea: Obedience to the Commandments, and moral law. Implicit is a call for an examination of conscience as an immediate preparation for fitting worship. (CCC- 269,559 2628) SECOND READING: Paul wrote this letter to the Roman Christians as he had not visited them yet. He explained that he was one of Jesus’ apostles. Paul was highly educated. He told them that he was coming to preach the Gospel that Christ had entrusted to him. He also explained that he was to carry out his mission as the "form of a servant" in order to bring salvation to the people. The vocation to Holy Orders is a call to serve Christ and his Church (in the Person of Christ the head. Scripture has foretold that the Messiah would come from the ancestral line of King David. (CCC 879,445,437,516-518) GOSPEL: Matthew explains the birth of Jesus. Before they came together; Mary was a virgin at Christ's conception. With child of the Holy Spirit: God the Holy Spirit caused the virginal conception of Christ in the womb of Mary, which fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah and affirms the divinity of Christ. God chose Joseph to be the husband of Mary and the custodian of the Holy Family. Joseph had a dream: He was told by God that the baby's name would be "Emmanuel" which means "God with s". The name of Jesus is at the very heart of Christian prayer. (CCC 430,744,430,1846)

Continue with Pastors of Parish: Pastors teaches that the Eucharist is the life-giving and nourishing center of the parochial congregation. He is to promote both family prayer and active participation in the liturgy. The Pastor baptizes new members of the community, reconciles the penitent, anoints the sick, assists at weddings, and buries the dead, and to celebrate Mass for the people of the parish. Carefully prepared and prayerful sacramental celebrations are the core of the pastor's sanctifying role within the parish community, but the role also implies a broader dimension of spiritual leadership...WHEW! When does he have time to sit down and eat??? PRAY FOR OUR FATHER BEAN EVERY DAY.
