Luke 21:25-28, 34-36
Advent and Lent are the two penitential seasons of the church year. However, Advent is a season in anticipation of the birth of Christ in time. Now, what is meant by "the birth of Christ in time"? Our four Sundays of Advent are not just Sundays in preparation for the birth of a child destined to become the Savior of the nations, but the birth of a child every day in the hearts of every Christian and the future return of the second coming in time where everything will be taken back by our God.
In today's Gospel, for some this reading might strike fear into their hearts: "...perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright." Even today, we hear about doomsday sayers professing the end of the world on a particular date. To be sure, the end of the world will come! However, we truly do not know the time. Only God knows when God will call everything to return to him.
In the final lines of today's Gospel we are told to "be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent."
This first Sunday in the season of Advent is a time for us to joyfully await the coming of Christ for the first time, at birth; for the second time, into our everyday lives; and looking forward to the last time when he will come to take all of creation back to his Father.

Our Giving Trees are up, one at the east door of the church and one in the Parish Hall. You may wish to choose a card from the tree and return it to the wrapped box at the east door. Please remember to note the amount of the card. A sign-up sheet is also at the east door for food items for our Christmas boxes which will be delivered on Sunday, December 22nd. We hope to make this a blessed Christmas for those in need.

examining various aspects of our soul and personality, deepening our understanding of the relationships
between our personality traits and between ourselves and family, community and our world of dreams,
symbols and Spirit. No experience or art skills are needed for this no-fail activity

This is a Fundraiser for St. Cyril Music Department. We hope this will enable us to purchase a new sound
system, bring in guest musicians, and fund more musical events. If you would like to donate crafts, baked
goods or raffle items you may drop off your items on Saturday, December 7th in the Hall after the 5:00 pm
Mass or Sunday by 7:45 am.

ROSARY: Last weekend of December
Please join the Knights of Columbus to Pray the Rosary. Our end-of-month Rosary is the weekend of Sat-
urday December 28th and Sunday December 29th. The Rosary will immediately follow the Saturday
5pm Mass and the Sunday 8am and 10:30am Masses and be immediately before the Sunday Spanish
Language Mass.
This month we will pray the Rosary for our ministers and their families and that others will volunteer, as
many hands make light work.
All are welcome to join us and, as usual, we will have complimentary copies of “How to pray the Ro-
sary” and Rosary Beads for anyone that needs to borrow or keep them. We hope you can join us.
If any Parishioner is interested in leading a decade of the Rosary, please talk to one of the Knights be-
forehand.
Thank you for all you do. You are a blessing to our Parish!

The Season of Advent
This is the first Sunday of Advent. Busy shoppers are preparing for the holiday season sending cards and buying gifts for family
and friends. It is important to take some time and reflect on the meaning of the season and the great gift of the birth of our
Savior, Jesus Christ.
One way to prepare for His coming is by joining us at the parish reconciliation service on Tuesday, December 10th at 7:00 PM
in the church. It is a chance for families to devote some time in prayerful reflection and to go to confession.
The Advent Fair will be today December 1st.
Children grades Kindergarten through Middle School are invited to our Advent
Fair on December 1st from 9:15 to 10:15 AM in room 116 of the Parish Hall.
Come learn about the Season of Advent as we prepare for Jesus’ birth on Christmas Day.

SHARING GOD’S LEGACY
You may want to take time to pray and
review your investments, especially if you
are considering a charitable gift. American
taxpayers have long enjoyed the opportunity
to make donations of securities and other
investments that have increased in value.
A donation of such assets may allow you to
bypass capital gains taxes that would be due
on such a sale. See your financial adviser for
more information.
