Hiking the Lost Turkey Trail – Part 2, Skyline Dr. to Burnt House Picnic Area

We had a nice turnout for the second “leg” of the Lost Turkey Trail hike. Nine hikers participated, several hikers traveling from the Pittsburgh area to join our group. Everyone enjoyed the hike and the fellowship with new friends. This hike was very scenic and a little more interesting than the first hike. The temperature was jut warm enough to truly enjoy the fading days of fall.

Third and final leg of the the Lost Turkey Trail hike – Burnt House Picnic Area to Herman’s Point

The third and final leg of the lost Turkey Trail was on Sunday, Dec. 19. The whole group of loyal “turkey trotters “ showed up for the last hike before ski season. I think this was probably the most strenuous hike this year, but it was a lot of fun and a very nice late fall day. The best part was there were no casualties. The hike measured about 9 1/2 miles with climbing several 600+ foot mountains and traversing along the side of one mountain with a leaf and snow covered path that looked more like a deer path. The highlight of the hike (besides the wine and cheese at the end of the hike) was crossing the cable bridge. Yes, cable like in one to hold onto and one to walk on! Sue and Ken are already making plans for a weekend backpacking hike of the whole trail in the spring. So stay tuned for more fun and mayhem in the outdoors!
