1. Engage Grants Program The Engage Grants Program will support the creation of a new university-industry partnership to undertake a fully funded, short-term research project that addresses a company-specific problem. It awards up to $25,000 over a maximum of six months to cover direct project costs. Application Deadline: Proposals can be submitted to the STU Research Office at any time. 2. Interaction Grants Program The Interaction Grants program will help establish new contacts between companies and NSERC-eligible researchers to identify a company-specific problem that could be solved through a subsequent R&D partnership. CIHR Operating Grant: Health Systems Research on H1N1 (Health systems, ethics and knowledge translation research on the implications of H1N1)

The purpose of this funding opportunity is to support the prompt initiation of research focused on public health and health care system interventions to H1N1 and to study the differential effects of these responses on vulnerable populations. This funding opportunity is also intended to encourage research on the potential ethical, legal and social implications of public health and other health care system interventions directed at the H1N1 outbreak. The effectiveness of knowledge translation approaches used to inform public health and health care system responses to the H1N1 outbreak is also of interest. 5. The New Brunswick Innovation Foundation (NBIF) is accepting applications for the Research Assistantship Initiative (RAI)

This program is a joint initiative between the New Brunswick Department of Post Secondary Education, Training and Labour and the NBIF. All academic and research organizations in New Brunswick can apply for funding under the RAI. While all disciplines are considered, emphasis is placed on applications that relate to one of the Foundation's strategic industries or for the purpose of education and training. Research programs that demonstrate value-added relationships with the private sector are encouraged. Funding: RAI contributions can be used to top up other funding sources and can be allocated to one or more students. Graduate student: $10,000 per year for a maximum of two years; undergraduate student: $5,000 for one year only. Resuscitation and Knowledge Transfer and Exchange 2010: Community and Health Care Providers

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the CIHR Institute of Circulatory are pleased to announce the launch of Resuscitation and Knowledge Transfer 2010: Community and Health Care Providers. The goal of this initiative is to fund research that explores how present and proposed policies, strategies, tools, training approaches, legislation or guidelines relating to knowledge transfer of resuscitation science influence the uptake of knowledge by lay-rescuers and/or first responders. The results of the research should lead to the development of new or improved knowledge transfer policies, mechanisms, and/or tools that will help improve survival outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest and ultimately, reduce disability and death among Canadians. Invitation: Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowships

The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) provides opportunities in universities or other research institutions in Japan for senior scientists/university professors to participate in cooperative activities with researchers. NSERC cooperates with the JSPS by receiving and processing applications, and by nominating candidates to the JSPS. At the time of application, you must:

• Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada; • Be a senior scientist, university professor, researcher with substantial professional experience

and hold a doctoral degree for a period of more than six years from April 1, 2010. • Participants will have already made contact with a host researcher in advance.

10. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) have partnered to jointly support applications, with infrastructure component, submitted to the 2010 Major Collaborative Research Initiatives (MCRI) Program competition

The adjudication process will be managed by SSHRC. Applicants will have to complete SSHRC web-based CVs, a Letter of Intent and a formal application form. As CFI requires institutional commitment in all its funding programs, applicants’ institutions must complete and submit at the MCRI formal application stage a very short Leaders Opportunity fund (LOF) electronic form, available on the CFI website. The two forms will be combined and submitted to the SSHRC/MCRI adjudication committee for review. Exceptionally this year, the MCRI deadlines will be extended. The MCRI/Letter of Intent is due February 21, 2010. The deadline for LOF form and MCRI formal application is September 1, 2010.
