KALBARRI DREAMING

On Friday 5 November the dream became a reality and 28 rather bleary eyed senior and not so senior members and friends took off for Kalbarri ex-cited and looking forward to a relaxing three day holiday. The approximate seven hour coach trip was comfortable and time soon passed as we en-joyed two movies and lots of chatter and catching up in between nana naps of course. When we arrived Kalbarri at about 5 pm without hesitation we all made our way to the Kalbarri Edge Resort to check out our accommodation. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased to find our lodgings luxurious and well equipped. After a brief rest all thoughts were on dinner and the many food outlets in Kalbarri that could satisfy our raging appetites fanned by the cool ocean breezes. The beach was only a 5 minute walk from our resort . Some of us indulged in the famous fish and chips and others found Findlays BBQ fish shack to be a most delicious and entertaining place to dine. Our host Gary Findlay was not only a good cook but a comic and kept us all enter-tained with his typical Aussie humour . On Saturday we explored Kalbarri by daylight and booked ourselves on the many tours on offer. Saturday night dinner was a scrumptious 3 course meal at the resort . Good food, good service and great company. On Sunday some spent an enjoyable day at the Gorges, while others re-laxed by the poolside listening to yarns generously supplied by our own stand up comedian Dickie Hendroff. Church was also on the agenda in the evening and after a 20 minute walk through a path angels would fear to tread we ensured our halos were once again intact. Cruising the Murchison river was Monday’s activity for some of us and our experienced tour operator was a wealth of information and we learned much about the region. After an early breakfast on Tuesday we made our way back to Perth. The marathon journey took almost 9 hours with a few delays, a busted air conditioner and no movies. But we were all too tired or too relaxed to bother. A wonderful fantastic time. Thanks to Joan Reincastle for once again organising a great outing. Genevieve De Souza
