Topped with 25,000 Swarovski crystals and trimmed with five miles of lights, the Rockefeller Plaza Christmas Tree might be the world’s most famous. But it’s far from alone in its splendor.

This year, forget fragile firs clad in tinsel and glass—the most tantalizing trees are sporting artificial roots. From a buoyant behemoth in Brazil, to a cartoonish softie in the English capital, these tricked out (wannabe) timbers give New York’s greatest holiday icon a real run for its money.
