TheSmartCityteamfromFraunhoferheadedbyMr.DamianWagner,SeniorProjectManager-SmartCities,FraunhoferIAOandconsistingofexpertsnamelyDr.ThomasSchlegl,HeadofDepartmentEnergySystemAnalysis,FraunhoferISE,Ms.MarielisaPadilla,ProjectManager-UrbanGovernanceInnovationandMs.TrinidadLopez,ProjectManager-UrbanGovernanceInnovationbothfromFraunhoferIAO,Mr.AdityaFuke,Manager-ElectronicsandMr.SanmatiNaik,Manager-Energy(RE)bothfromFraunhoferOfficeIndiahadcoordinatedastakeholdersworkshopwithCochinSmartMissionLtd.tobrainstormthechallengesfacedbyKochianddrawoutthecriticalareasofinterventions.The stakeholders’ participation from Kochi included representatives of Cochin Smart Mission Ltd., Kochi MunicipalCorporation, KochiMetroRail Ltd.,Greater CochinDevelopmentAuthority, TownPlanningDepartment, Kerala StateElectricity Board, Kerala Water Authority, Public Works Department, Irrigation Department, and representatives ofNationalSmartCityschemeAtalMissionforRejuvenationandUrbanTransformation(AMRUT).
The following four areaswere identified and discussed at lengthwith respect tomajor challenges faced, strategicprioritiesandadditionalrelevantstakeholderstobeengagedtodevelopadetailedfeasibilitystudy.
1. RenewableEnergy2. InclusiveHousingDevelopmentandSmartBuildings3. DisasterManagement4. EnvironmentalProtection(WaterandWasteManagement)
Theworkshopprogressedwithspecificworkinggroupdiscussionsontheaboveidentifiedareasandprioritiesweresettakingintoaccounttheinterestofthecityandstakeholders.

TheresultswerethenpresentedtoMr.APMMohammedHanish,ManagingDirector,CochinSmartMissionLtd.bythemoderatoroftheeachworkinggroupandnextstepswiththetimelineswerediscussedfordeliveringthepotentialbestpracticestoKochi.Asanextstep,CSMLwouldfurthersupportFraunhofer indatacollectionandvalidation.TheresultsoftheworkshopwouldbeanalysedbyFraunhoferexpertsusingtheexperiencesandtoolsofMorgenstadtNetwork.Basedonthefindings,Fraunhofer expertswould conduct interviewswith the identified stakeholders to develop a preliminary study of theresults,whichwouldincludeprojectideasintheaboveidentifiedtopics.ThispreliminarystudywouldbereviewedbybothCochin SmartMission Ltd. (CSML) andFederalMinistry for theEnvironment,NatureConservation, andNuclearSafety(BMU)toselectstrategicallyimportantprojectstobefinanced.
