“Death’s Guide” “The Lovely Bones”

Music at the start and end of its opening sequence it helps build enigma and mystery.

Music at the start of the opening sequence which is a simple piano playing softly

Voice-Over of Bria telling the audience who she is.

Voice-Over of the protagonist talking about her life.

Fast paced editing at the start, but as the opening sequence progressed many more lingering shots were included, creating a sinister and foreboding atmosphere.

There are lingering shots throughout the first 2 ½ minutes which creates an ominous atmosphere.

Has the type of character roles that one would expect to see in a thriller genre.

Ordinary family is dragged into danger. – girl, and her family, stalker.

I believe that “Death’s Guide” conforms and challenges thriller conventions, I will firstly compare it to “The Lovely Bones” and see what thriller conventions they may have in common.

“The Lovely Bones” is a fantasy thriller I have chosen to compare our film to this one because they have a similar storyline.

“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”I believe that “Death’s Guide” conforms and challenges thriller conventions, I will firstly

compare it to “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” and see what thriller conventions they may have in common.

This film is about a journalist who is helped in his quest to find a woman who has been missing, possibly dead for forty years by a young female hacker. It is a crime thriller I wanted

to see what our opening sequence had in common with a different type of thriller.

Music at the start and end of its opening sequence it helps build enigma and mystery.

The eerie tension building music starts off mysteriously, however there is a happy moment suggesting hope, until it quickly falls down again.

Voice-Over of Bria telling the audience who she is.

There is no dialogue which means the audience focus on what happens in the scene and the tension building music is heightened. It immediately captures the audiences attention.

Long and lingering shots which create suspense, and makes the audience wonder what will happen next, will something jump out at them, the shots quicken ever so slightly when a mysterious person is walking through a subway.

Has the type of character roles that one would expect to see in a thriller genre.

The first 2 ½ mins of this film contain the character roles that are expected, we see a worried father who looks at his daughter in a picture the audience get the sense that maybe she has died a mysterious death. Revealed by the mysterious words in Greek.Father= ordinary person dragged into a bad situation.
