BACKGROUND

Muthathi and Chunchi Falls are one of the closest water spots, located 100kilometers away from Bangalore.

Breath-taking places in and around Muthathi beckon picnickers unaware of thedangers

The dangers lie in whirlpools and strong water currents located very close to theshores

The victims comprise largely of IT professionals and college students who come hereon a holiday, especially during long weekends.

Two MindTree Minds lost their lives due to drowning this year in Muthathi andChunchi falls.

Suresh and three of his friends went to Chunchi falls near Mekedatu about90 kms south of Bangalore, on Sunday, 7th November. He and one of hisfriends went close to the water fall and accidently slipped on the rock andfell 200 meters into the falls.

Suresh joined us on Feb 2010. He was focused, hard working anddedicated. When the team had technical road blocks in the project, Sureshwas the go-to person for quick solutions. Team members saw him assomeone who they could bank upon. He helped mentor and groom new

joinees. He was liked by the customers team for his focus and enthusiasmat work.

Suresh's passing away is a huge loss, and he will always be rememberedand admired by the team members.

Facts

The river looks harmless, but there are 40-50 feet deep dangerous spots of

whirlpools across the stretch, which are known only to the local fishermen

These spots are located a few meters away from the shores

Reports the largest number of deaths in a year in any tourist spot acrossKarnataka

Good swimmers have been unable to rescue friends and some have alsopaid with their lives in the process

No visible sign boards exist alerting you of danger

Alcohol Bottles strewn all over

many drown after drinking

The nearest tourist spot is Bheemeshwari Fishing Camp which is, safetyconscious and open to the public, but at a cost

Muthathi, on the other hand is open to the public and also to its dangers
