Social Responsibility (Poverty Relief Projects)

During 2004/5 financial year through the DEAT social responsibility programme with a total expenditure of R164 800 125, R49,440mil was spent on wages in achieving 1 083 185 temporary job days equivalent to 9 419 job opportunities.

23% of the job days was taken up by the youth (249 550 job days = 2 170 job opportunities

1,7% of the total job days was taken up by people with disabilities (17 940 job-days = 156 job opportunities)

Therefore as a proportion of the expenditure on jobs, R11,372 mil directly went to the youth, whilst R840 481 thousands was given as a direct benefit to persons with disabilities.
