Dear Temple Community, Volume 12, Issue 1 Friday February 10, 2017
A very special welcome to all our Temple families for 2017. It has been a great start to the year and it
has been very encourag-
ing to see our new stu-
dents involved in and
accepting our school
community. This week the
Year 12s and Year 10s
have been on their respective camps, and
the reports have been excellent despite the
hot weater. Due to the heat, the activities
were modified and adjusted. The Camp
reports will be shared in the next newsletter.
Dux, Prefects and Merit Award Ceremony
At our first Assembly we inducted our Pre-
fects for 2017, and Isabella Thach, our Dux
for 2016, shared a really encouraging mes-
sage with the students. Isabella is studying
a Bachelor of Medical Radiology Science
(Medical Imaging) at the University of SA.
We look forward to our Year 12 students
leading us throughout this year.
Last Tuesday, I had the privilege
of attending the SACE Merit
Award Ceremony. Three of our
students achieved a Merit Award,
which is a phenomenal achieve-
ment, and we congratulate them.
Isabella Thach was the only one
who was able to attend.
Swimming Carnival
We had a glorious day for our Swimming
Carnival, it could not have been better. It
was great to see so many students involved,
our highest number so far, and to also be
able to have a relaxing and fun day as a
community. Well done to all the students
on their efforts throughout the day. A spe-
cial thank you to Mr Dan Kerr our PE and
Sports Coordinator, the PE team and all
our staff on making the day such a suc-
cess. Thank you also to the Parents &
Friends, who cooked and served food and
drinks, and to the many parents, friends,
caregivers and old scholars who came and
supported the event. Congratulations to
West House on their 4th win in a row.

Pursuing excellence for the glory of God
Congratulations to Isabella Thach for achieving
Dux of the Paralowie Campus with the highest
score of 98.9.
Congratulations to 2016 Year 12 Students
Isabella Thach and Karen Tran, and Year
11 Student Michelle Lam for receiving
SACE Merit Certificates. Unfortunately
Karen and Michelle were unable to attend
the ceremony at Government House.
Parents Parking
We ask all parents not to park on the
grassed area between the footpath and the
road. Due to the excess rainfall, the lawn is
easily churned up.
Also please do not leave your car if you are
picking up students on the roadway.
Parenting Ideas Insights
This week the article is on ‘Four Parenting
Priorities for 2017’. Tackling these priorities
can make a difference to your students
results and well being. The first is ‘Time To
Tackle Technology’, and the second is
‘Promote Physical and Mental Health’. The
third priority is ‘Put the Spoon Back In The
Drawer’. In other words, we need to encour-
age our children to stand on their own two
feet and learn from their mistakes. Overpro-
tection is not healthy. And fourthly, ‘Put
Integrity Top of the Pedestal of Character
Traits’. Integrity in our character goes a
long way to helping us achieve success in
our future.
Work Experience As part of the subject Workplace Practices, Year 11 Students need to complete one week of
work experience in Week 10 of Term 2.
If you know of a workplace that would be willing to host one of our students for this week, could
you please contact me at the school on 8256 9600 or [email protected].
Congratulations to Nick &
Bridgette Sibly on the birth of
their fourth daughter Clover
Joy Sibly on December 22,
2016. She weighed 3.89kg
and was 51cm long.
Open Evening Advance Notice
Please take note that our Open Evening will
be on Thursday, March 23, 5pm to
7.30pm. More details coming soon.
Conclusion
Marcel Rijken shares an excellent word from
2 Corinthians 11:21-33.
‘The Apostle Paul states what has hap-
pened to him as has gone out to proclaim
the gospel. He has been beaten, whipped
and shipwrecked on many occasions, yet he
has been unrelenting in continuing to de-
clare the truth about Jesus. Paul demon-
strates incredible faithfulness in the face of
incredible adversity. No matter what hap-
pened, good or bad, Paul remained faithful.
I find the passage very encouraging as we
are also called to faithfulness despite our
circumstance. My prayer for all our students
is that they would grow in their faith and
relationship with Jesus and no matter what
life may bring, their faith would last a life-
time.’
ENROLMENT INTERVIEWS FOR 2018 Enrolment interviews are commencing for the
2018 intake of students. If your child is due to
start school next year and you haven’t put in an
Enrolment Application Form, please contact the
school urgently.
An Enrolment Application Form must be
received by the school before an interview can
be booked. Forms need to be returned before
the end of Term 1.
To obtain a Prospectus Pack or an
Application Form , please contact Mrs Linda
Hunter on 8256 9600.

This ties in with my Chapel message last
Monday when I spoke on the importance of
developing resilience and being faithful to

YEAR LEVEL COORDINATORS 2017
I am greatly blessed with a wonderful team of leaders. This will be our ninth year working together as a team and it has been fantastic to see the growth that has occurred over this time.
The primary focus of the Year Level Coordinators is to offer support in the area of Student Development. This includes the organisation of activities to help build positive relationships in their Year Level, the provision of pastoral care, monitoring of student progress and assisting in developing strategies to both encourage positive behaviour and improve negative behaviour. In doing so, they will liaise with the Assistant Principal – Student Development as well as our Student Mentors along with Care Group teachers. The Year Level Coordinator is an excellent first port of call for parents with questions, comments or concerns about their child’s progress at School, and they welcome your call or email.
We look forward to the very positive impact our Coordinators will have on the life of the School this year.
2017 will be a very exciting year and we trust in God’s continued presence, leading and guiding.

On Friday of Week 1, we took the whole school to the Salisbury Swimming Pool for our annual Interhouse Swimming Car-
nival. It was a great day of fun and competition, including some very creative costumes and energetic team songs. Each
year we seem to get more elaborate and enthusiastic team chants! Mr K had the tough job once again of deciding the win-
ner of the best dressed (East House), as well as the best team chant (North House) for some bonus points.
Throughout the day we had a lot of close races, with many of the age
champions only being decided by a couple of points.
This year’s age champions were:
U13 Girls Gisele Cocks West
U13 Boys Seth Magann West
U14 Girls Taylor Hannaford South
U14 Girls Makalah Scott South
U14 Boys Yeah Yeah Chhen North
U15 Girls Hannah Alderman South
U15 Boys Ethan Crook West
U16 Girls Zoe Magann West
U16 Boys Justin Richter North
Open Girls Lateilia Mobbs West
Open Boys Jerry Peng North
We also saw the following records broken this year:
15’s Boys Backstroke – Ethan Crook – 32.63
U15’s Boys Breastroke – Ethan Crook – 36.32
Opens Girls Backstroke – Lateilia Mobbs – 34.99
U15’s Girls Relay – West – 2:35:30
West was once again dominant, winning the Swimming Carnival for the
fourth year in a row. The points for the day are as follows:
West – 403
South – 300
East – 208
North – 190
Congratulations to all who participated. We had our largest number of
participants ever, with 128 students swimming in at least one race.

Rules Regarding Visiting Bethany Christian School
In consultation with the Leadership at Bethany Christian School the following
rules have been put in place, especially due to the growth of both schools,
and for the Welfare, Health and Safety of students and staff at both schools.
1. Temple students are not to visit staff at Bethany Christian School,
unless organised by the Bethany Christian School staff.
2. Bethany Christian School property is out of bounds to Temple stu-
dents at all times, except for the following reasons:
- Dropping off and picking up siblings.
- Going to the Bethany Christian School Turning Circle to meet
siblings to be picked up after school.
- When picking up siblings, you must wait until the Bethany Chris-
tian School Bell sounds at 3.10pm, and not go onto their property
earlier. You can wait in front of the canteen between 3pm and
3.10pm.
- Students have been requested not to wait in the covered veran-
dah at Bethany Christian School until after 3.10pm.
3. Students are not allowed to go through Bethany Christian School
property as a short cut to Byron Bay Drive. This includes the oval,
the buildings and the footpath in front of the carpark. Our entry and
exit gates are Gate 1 (East Gate) and Gate 2 (Centre Main En-
trance). Bethany Christian School gates, including the pedestrian
gates, are not to be used at any time to enter or exit the school
grounds, unless you are dropping off or picking up siblings.
4. Bethany Christian School toilets are not to be used by Temple stu-
dents, except when attending a supervised Bethany Christian School
Event or Church and Youth functions.
5. The Bethany Oval is out of bounds before and after school, unless
supervised by a teacher. Balls are not to be kicked against the
neighbour’s fences or walls.
6. The Bethany Christian School playground equipment is out of
bounds to Temple students. This is for Bethany Christian School
students only.
7. The Soccer goals can be used, but are not to be moved or used for
swinging on, and must not be facing the neighbours fence when
used.
Crossing at the Emu Crossing
Students, please remember it is important when
crossing at the Emu crossing, that you wait until
the cars have stopped, and the students holding
the lollipops give the go ahead to move.
Students have been moving as soon as the
lollipops sign is held up, but they must wait until
the monitors say it is clear to do so.
Old Scholar News
Michelle Pham-Nguyen graduated at the end of 2012, and is studying
at Flinders University. As part of her University degree she has enjoyed
a 5 month placement in Singapore as part of a Work Integrated Learn-
ing program. Her projects included working on the development of an
in-ear seizure monitoring device for epilepsy, blood flow signal analysis
and processing for the purposes of haemodialysis; and the development
of a novel pill crusher to assist patients fed via a nasogastric tube.
Well done Michelle!

Competition Riddle: A cloud is my mother, the wind is my father, my son is the cool stream and my daughter is the fruit of the land. A rainbow is my bed, the earth my final resting place and I'm the torment of man. What am I?
Riddle: I am taken from a mine, and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released and yet I am used by almost everybody. What am I?
Riddle: There was a competition where the contestants had to hold some-thing. At the end of the event, the winner was a person who was physi-cally disabled (he had no hands or feet)! What was it that the contest-ants have to hold?
Riddle: The person who makes it has no need for it. The person who purchas-es it does not use it. The person who does use it does not know they are. What is it?
Riddle: You live in a place where six months of the year is mild summer and during the other six months the mercury goes drastically down! You own a lake where there is a small island. You want to build a house over there and need to get some materials across there. You have no boat, plane or anything which you can use to transport them to the island. How will you solve the problem?
If you know the answers, email me at [email protected]
First one to get all 5 riddles correct, receives a Prize and House Points
This is a reminder that the school has chosen to become a "Nut Aware" school.
This awareness has been implemented because there is an increased number of
students at our school who have severe peanut/nut allergies. These students cannot
be exposed to nuts in ANY form, as this will trigger an anaphylactic reaction - that is a
reaction requiring an immediate injection of adrenalin, ambulance attendance and
hospitalization.
This has very serious consequences for our students and in their best interests, we
ask that care is taken with all peanut/nuts and food containing nuts within the school. The Canteen/Home Ec. has
also undertaken the change.
The school acknowledges that due to food processing practices, it is impractical to eliminate nuts or nut products
entirely from an environment where there is food. Thus "Nut Aware" School.
NUT AWARENESS
School Lunches Parents/Caregivers, please note that if you or a family member
are bringing your child’s lunch to school, you must park your car
and bring the lunch to the SSO.
Students must not collect lunches from cars in the Turning
Circle.
Do not bring fast food onto the school grounds. Students
need nutritious food, not ‘junk’ food.
A teacher will be on duty at lunchtime. Be prepared to be
asked to park your car.

If you have an enquiry regarding a
student issue (e.g. challenges with
socialising, bullying, health, etc.),
please contact your child’s Care
Group Teacher. Most issues can be
resolved by speaking to your child’s
Care Group teacher, who can often
liaise on your behalf with other staff
members.
If you have an enquiry regarding an
issue with a specific Subject (i.e.
what your child is learning, your
child’s progress, learning challeng-
es, teacher-student concerns, your
child’s behaviour in class), please
contact the teacher of that subject.
If you have an enquiry regarding a
behavioural issue and have already
met with the Care Group/Subject
teacher concerned, please contact
Mr Tony Hudson (Assistant Princi-
pal—Student Development ).
If you have an enquiry regarding
learning or curriculum issues and
have already met with the Subject
teacher concerned, please contact
Mrs Eliza Buckoke (Assistant Princi-
pal—SACE/Curriculum ).
If you have followed the communi-
cation procedure outlined above and
the issue is still unresolved, an ap-
pointment can be made with the
Campus Principal, Mr Rod Klimi-
onok.
To help you communicate effective-
ly, we have listed all of the teacher’s
email addresses below.
Our goal is to resolve, to the best of
our ability, all challenges that your
child might be facing at school. This
can best be done by following the
communication protocol outlined
above. Leadership can only pro-
ceed with matters if this procedure
is followed.
