Dear Temple Community, Volume 12, Issue 13 Friday September 1, 2017
This team will form the
Student Leadership Team
in 2018. They will begin
taking over from the current
Student Leadership Team
at the beginning of next
term. This is our largest
Leadership Team to date, and their names and
photos appear in this Newsletter.
World Vision
I encourage all of our students to get behind
our World Vision Fundraising events and to
donate generously. Our goal is $10,000, which
is a huge task, but if everyone does something,
this goal is achievable.
Parenting Ideas Insights
This week’s article is titled “Father to Father”.
Obviously, with the celebration of Father’s Day,
this article gives excellent suggestions on how
we can improve in our role as a father, step-
father, father-in-law, and grandfather.
Conclusion
My recent trip to the Gold Coast to visit my two
daughters, six grandchildren and their families,
turned out to be a sad one. The stepfather of
my two daughters, and step grandfather to my
grandchildren passed away.

Pursuing excellence for the glory of God
On Tuesday of Week 4, the Year 11 Prefect
applicants for 2018 had the opportunity to
attend the Bible Society’s Masterclass, at
Edwardstown Baptist Church. It was a great
opportunity to learn more about God’s word,
through the inspirational speakers that pre-
sented on the day. Issues such as freedom of
speech, and the connection between Science
and Faith, were addressed in an engaging
manner.
Students mixed with their peers from other
schools, and were entertained with uplifting
praise and worship from Sacred Stone. Our
students did particularly well with a fun Bible
Quiz, with Astrid Cocks making it to the final
three elimination stage. Madeleine Hilder, Matt
King and myself were really happy with how
well Temple’s future student leaders repre-
sented the school, giving us great confidence
looking forward to 2018.
Blessings,
Peter Jeffree

Campus Principal, Temple Christian College
He had not been well for a period of time but
suddenly declined in the two weeks before his
death. He was only 60 years of age. I had the
privilege of praying with him the day before he
passed away. It made me realise once again
how fragile our lives are, and how important it
is to make sure our priorities are balanced.
Spending time with family is an important one
and can’t be made up after someone has
passed on.
As Christians, we believe that a personal rela-
tionship with Jesus Christ is important, be-
cause He is the one that gives us hope both
now and in the afterlife to come (Heaven).
Colossians 1:4-6 (NLT) says: “For we have
heard of your faith in Jesus Christ and your
love for all of God’s people, which come from
your confident hope of what God has re-
served for you in Heaven. You have had this
expectation ever since you first heard the truth
of the Good News.
This same Good News that came to you is
going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit
everywhere by changing lives, just as it
changed your lives from the day you first heard
and understood the truth about God’s wonder-
ful grace.”
Congratulations to the newly appointed 2018 Prefects!
Adelaide Oval - Senior Business and Enterprise and Tourism Excursion For the first time, we combined the Year 11 and 12 Business and Enterprise and Tourism classes for an excursion to the
Adelaide Oval. With 33 students and 3 teachers, the day began with a walk around the developing Riverbank Precinct to
observe the changing infrastructure and progress on the plans to rejuvenate this network of active spaces and recreation-
al, cultural, business and sporting destinations.
The purpose of the excursion was to gain an understanding of how the Adelaide Oval operates its Marketing, Human Re-
sources and Tourism divisions. We heard from the heads of these departments, who took time out of their schedules spe-
cially to chat to our students. The excursion seamlessly supported what is discussed and taught in class, which reinforced
the importance of getting out of the classroom and seeing real world industry examples.
Our students loved the tour of the Oval, learning about the iconic nature of the Adelaide Oval’s history and seeing the be-
hind the scenes operations. They ran onto the oval from the pre-game rooms to the recorded cheers of a packed oval, a
once in a lifetime experience for many of us. We perused the Sir Donald Bradman Collection and viewed the inner-
workings of the heritage listed scoreboard, a unique icon of South Australian sporting history.
It was a great day! A productive, valuable and fun excursion that we hope to run again next year!

Book Week 2017—Escape to Everywhere Staff and students joined many other schools across the state in celebrating Book
Week from Monday 21st to Friday 25th August. Over 60 students took part in a Writing
Competition based on the theme ‘Escape’, with judges impressed at the quality of the
entries. The library hosted a Pre-loved Book Fair on Thursday and Friday, in which
proceeds from book sales were donated to World Vision, and remaining books donated
to overseas communities in Africa. A dedicated band of volunteer students designed
and created an amazing display in the Resource Centre. Based on our theme, visitors
entering the library were able to climb through a wardrobe into the world of Narnia and
Wonderland. On Friday’s Casual Day, adventurous staff and students dressed up as
their favourite characters. Prizes were on offer for original or creative costumes. ‘Best
Female Costume’ was awarded to Isabelle Trezise alias Harlequin. ‘Best Male Cos-
tume’ went to Timmy Sen as Aladdin. ‘Best Group’ prize went to the Year 12’s dressed
as characters from Alice in Wonderland and the ‘Best Staff Costume’ was claimed by
the beautiful ‘Pink Ladies’ from the SSO. The winners of the Writing Competition were
announced with the ‘Middle School Year 7-9’ category going to Shakira Pheng Year 9.
‘Senior School Year 10 – 12’ was awarded to Joyce Kurtzer in Year 12.

On Sunday August 21,
Year 11 student Nyta
Ouk competed in the
South Australian Heat of
the Apex Fashion Pa-
rade at Scotch College,
dressed in the culmina-
tion of her Research Pro-
ject investigation into the
recycling of ocean
waste. Her dress was
painstakingly made by
hand, using over 30
shopping bags, fishing line and fishing net.
Nyta was awarded the ‘Back Stage Crew’s Encour-
agement Award’ for being so polite and patient
throughout, what was, a very long day.

Maths Quiz Night Maths Quiz Night has become one of the favourite events of the year for our students. This year our six teams, ranging
from Year 7 to 12 students, have been competing against other students from schools such as Pedare Christian College,
Gleeson High, Scott’s College and Rostrevor. MASA organised this event at Pedare Christian College, creating another
night of fun for all participants. I would like to congratulate the following students for making the night one to remember:

Equestrian On Friday 25th of August the equestrian team attended the Eastern
Fleurieu Interschool Gymkhana in Strathalbyn. The team consisted of
Paralowie students Mya Hartwig, Petria Treeby, and their horses Bear
and Remy, plus Mile End student Toby Judd and his horse Captain.
This was Petria Treeby’s first time attending an interschool competition,
she did very well in her events but unfortunately didn’t place. Mya Hart-
wig placed 2nd in the barrel racing, and cleared her 25-35 cm show
jumping resulting in a ribbon and cleared the 50cm show jumping, but
unfortunately went too fast. Toby Judd was equally successful with the
“Texas Barrel Race” as he
is the Champion at this
event for his age group 4
years running and the
“Bending Race”. Andrew
Burfield and parents of the
students were there to
cheer the students on.

Table Tennis On the 15th of August, two Year 8/9 boy’s teams and one Year 8/9 girls
team competed in the SACSA Table Tennis competition at Tyndale
Christian School. We had a very successful day with our two boys
teams playing each other in the Grand Final so we placed first and sec-
ond. The girls made the Grand Final and were runners up, an excellent
effort. Lots of comments were made about the excellent sportsmanship
of our teams and how well they handled themselves on the day. Con-
gratulations to our girls Chelsea Chiem, Nomi Lenir, Shakira Pheng,
Tina Le and boys Jayden Truong, Jayden Lai, Coen Mobbs (Winners),
Samuel Hamilton, Leon Le and Anthony Nara (Runners up).
On the 24th of August our Year 9 Boys competed in the Open Boys
State Knockout Final. It was a gruelling day of tough matches against
the senior boys, where every single round was even on rubbers and
had to go to count back on games won. The boys beat Adelaide High
and Glenunga International by 2 games and lost to Immanuel College
by 2 games. This qualified them for the Grand Final to compete for the
State title against Immanuel College. The Final was no different to any
other round, it was just as fierce as the pressure mounted on the boys.
As they had done all day, the final result was even on rubbers and had
to go to count back on games where we fell two games short! It was an
incredible and inspiring effort, also a very physical effort, and we are so
proud of the achievement. Well done to Jayden Truong, Coen Mobbs, Jayden Lai and Samuel Hamilton.
Year 8/9 SACSA Football On 23rd August, our 8/9 SACSA Footy teams
ventured to the cold, wet & windy Barrett Reserve
at West Beach. Our boys played impeccable
footy for much of the day, interspersed with mo-
ments of inexperienced, loose play. However,
they finished with an impressive 4 wins and 2
losses at the end of the minor round. The boys
finished 6th overall, with honourable mentions to
the silky smooth Jayden Thach and Tyler Sobey,
Brock Fensom as the workhouse, Jayden "I
thought it was a volleyball" Lai and Dylan Miles,
with his sharpshooting up forward. Well done, boys!
The girls, led by the tireless Aisha Thomas, played impressive football and were often saved by some final quarter
sharp shooting from Captain Thomas and Chelsea Joy. Tracey Nuanphaly was formidable in defence, supported by
the silky evasive skills of Kayla Horn and Alicia Him in the midfield. They finished the competition with 3 wins and 2
losses, with a chance to face Temple Mile End to play off for 7th position. A tight final game saw the girls all tied up
at the end of the match, 21 apiece. Great work, girls!
Mr Agnew & Mrs Anthony.
Year 8/9 Boys Netball On 25th August, our 8/9 Boys Netball team
competed in the Northern Zone Netball competi-
tion. Our boys had a successful day where we
also played against North Eastern schools, fin-
ishing 3rd in Division 1. Due to this result, we
actually won the Northern Zone Premiership!
Special mention to Tommy K for working tire-
lessly all day & Astrid Cocks for umpiring. Con-
gratulations to all members of our Premiership
team!
Mr Agnew.
SACSA Open Football On Thursday 24th August, we sent an Open Boys and Open Girls team to the SACSA Footy Carnival. The Girls team
fought hard throughout the day and were unlucky to come away winless after the round games. In their final game for the
day, they showed an impressive performance to win their playoff game. At the start of the day, a couple of team members
pulled out, leaving only 9 players for the day. This was going to be a struggle to not have any substitutions, but the boys
showed a lot of heart all day, refusing to give up at any stage. The team ended up with one win and four losses after the
round games, finishing with a convincing win in their playoff game. Well done to all who played!

This is a reminder that the school has chosen to become a "Nut Aware" school.
This awareness has been implemented because there is an increased number of students at
our school who have severe peanut/nut allergies. These students cannot be exposed to nuts
in ANY form, as this will trigger an anaphylactic reaction - that is a reaction requiring an
immediate injection of adrenalin, ambulance attendance and hospitalization.
This has very serious consequences for our students and in their best interests, we ask that care is taken with all
peanut/nuts and food containing nuts within the school. The Canteen/Home Ec. has also undertaken the change.
The school acknowledges that due to food processing practices, it is impractical to eliminate nuts or nut products
entirely from an environment where there is food. Thus "Nut Aware" School.

Enrolling your child at Temple Christian College
At Temple Christian College, it is important for us to give priority to enrol-
ling siblings. However, as the Paralowie Campus has had an increase in
Student Enrolment applications from other schools, it is essential that we
know whether your child will be attending.
If it is your intention to send your child to Temple Christian College, Paral-
owie Campus in the future, please contact the school for an Application
Form. Whether your child has just started Reception or is currently in Year
6, if you do not submit an Application Form, a position cannot be
guaranteed, whether there is a sibling currently at the school or not.
This also applies to students attending Bethany Christian School.
If you have any questions or would like an Application Form, please do not
hesitate to contact our Enrolment Registrar on 8256 9600.
