The Celebration of Sacraments

Infant Baptism: The Sacrament of Baptism is regularly celebrated on Sunday during or after the Eucharistic Liturgy. Registered

parishioners are asked to arrange for the Baptismal Preparation Class and the Liturgical Celebration by calling the Parish Office.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults: RCIA is the process of growing in your faith and love of God. Weekly gather-

ings take place from September until Easter. If you are interested in learning about Catholicism and joining us please call Deacon Tom

at the rectory.

Penance: The Sacrament of Penance is celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at IC, 9:30 a.m. at HSP and 10:30 a.m. IC every Sunday

or by appointment.

Matrimony: Anyone planning to be married must contact the parish at least six months in advance. The exact date and time of

your wedding should not be determined until after consultation with a priest or deacon. If either party has previously been civilly or

religiously married, the Presider is not permitted to set a date for the wedding without resolving the previous marriage.

Pastoral Care of the Sick: When a parishioner is admitted to the hospital, nursing home, or confined to home because of

age or infirmity, please call the Parish Office. Parishioners are ready to visit and to bring Holy Communion. When one is seriously ill,

the healing Presence of the Lord should be requested in the Sacrament of the Sick.

In order to have new life, we like Saul must live on in Jesus Christ. Christ is the vine, we are the branches. Cut off from Christ, we wither and die. Yet, if we live on, connected with Christ, we re-ceive the nourishment we need to grow and bear fruit. One way we are able to remain in Christ is through the Church. We receive our nourishment in the form of God’s word as proclaimed in Scrip-ture, the celebration of the sacraments and the witness and support of members of the Church community.

As we receive this nourishment, we must bear good fruit. John’s letter re-minds us that this fruit is love which is expressed in word and deed. Others will know we are committed to the truth not through our words alone. Rather, they will know by how we live our lives and how we love one another.

Deacon Tom

Dear People of God,

Saul was a great persecutor of the early Christians until one day, on the road to Damascus, he encoun-tered the risen Lord. Soul, who would eventually be called Paul, experienced a great conversion. The great persecutor became the great preacher in the name of Je-sus the Lord. His great love for the Lord drove him to seek en-trance into the Christian commu-nity. Many feared him because they thought he was a spy. Yet Barnabas believed in Saul, for he saw him risk death to preach the good news. Saul found new life in Jesus Christ and with the commu-nity which proclaimed Jesus as Lord.

HISTORIC CHURCH OF ST. PATRICK

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MAY 3, 2015

Please join us in wishing Fr. Rudi a very Happy Birthday (Monday, May 4) This Sunday, May 3, we will have a Second Collection for the Nepal Earthquake Relief By now you have heard that last Saturday, April 25, there was a devastating earthquake in Nepal—over 4,000 have been reported as killed, with many, many more hurt and suffering. As we have with past natural disasters, the Diocese of Toledo is ask-ing parishes, schools, and affiliated institutions to take up a collection for relief efforts. Monies collected will be do-nated—100%—to Catholic Relief Services, an organization that is already on-the-ground and working with Caritas Nepal to provide assistance to those who have been displaced or suffered losses. Attention Youth/Young Adults of Historic St. Patrick It’s time to prepare for our Youth Mass. The liturgy will be celebrated Mother’s Day, May 10. We encourage all youth/young adults (boys and girls) of Historic St. Patrick to par-ticipate in the liturgy that day. (Young girls in the May Crowning may participate in the Mass also.) Sign-up sheets will be in the back of church today. There will be a short practice after Mass today along with May Crowning practice. If you should have any questions please contact Kelly Szurko or Amy Ashner. There will be Blood Pressure Checks after Mass today near the State of the Pieta. Sunday Catholic Mass for Shut-ins Taping at Rosary Cathedral Tuesday, May 5 at 10:00 am. Could you be part of the congregation and join us for this taping? Please be there by 9:45 if you are able to attend. Thank you for your support. It is that time again for Pints with the Pastor ! Thanks to all those who have made Pints with the Pastor a great social event for our parish. We will be meeting again on Wednesday, May 6, after the 5:30 pm Mass. Join us at the Blarney around 6:15 pm for food, fun, fellowship, and pints.

Reminder! “NEW” and “CURRENT” Extra-ordinary Eucharistic Ministers will be “Commissioned” and “Re-commissioned”! If you signed up last fall for a ministry or you are a current minister at St. Patrick’s this is for you! St. Martin de Porres is hosting a training session on Eucharistic Spiri-tuality on May 9th from 10:00—11:00 am which is mandatory. Following the training session we will meet back at Historic St. Patrick’s for hands on training by Deacon Tom.

May Crowning will be held on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 10th. All girls ages 5-10 are welcome to participate in the honor guard. Please meet with Barb Lahey in front of the Blessed Virgin’s altar for a short practice after Mass today. We encourage everyone to make use of the many informative and inspirational books available in

our library, including a collection of our own Msgr. Vasko’s writings and books for children and teens. All you have to do is write your name and the current date on the card and leave it in the basket on the library shelf. When you are done with a book, just leave it on a shelf marked ‘Returns’. There are no due dates or fines. Monetary donations to the library are always appreciated to purchase new materials, but there is never a charge for using our library. We will keep you informed via the bulletin as new materials become available. The library of Historic St Patrick’s is about to take inventory and update the catalog. If you have any materials that have been checked out for a long time and you are finished with them, please bring them back by May 2nd. Otherwise, they will be removed from the catalog. Anything checked out in 2015 will not be deleted. Kroger Rewards Program It is time to Re-enroll in Kroger Community rewards for the coming year. Par-ish/family members may re-enroll at www.krogercommunityrewards.com starting April 1. Select Historic St. Patrick or #84246. Last time for IC & HSP to film Mass for Shut Ins will be Tuesday, May 5th at Rosary Cathedral at 9:45 AM. If

you’ve come before….come again! If you’ve not come before, please join us! It looks very nice if the pews are full…

and our very own parishioners are there for those viewing!
