DEAR PARTNERSand Colleagues,Q2 2018 has been a very busy but extremely fruitful quarter for us. We are delighted to share that we have brought 7 new customers onboard and have upgraded, or commenced upgrades, to our new platform for 11 existing customers.

Solving customer problems and achieving their mission is what inspires us. We had a number of our customers attend the user conference in June at

Park Plaza, UK, and I would like to thank them for their participation and their ideas. It was inspiring to hear where their organisations were heading as well as to listen in on their ideas in terms of what they want us to do with our solutions. At ShipNet, we have made every executive management team member responsible for bringing at least one shared idea to life. We are also going to launch our dedicated user groups in July, along with an advisory board of customers across key product investments that we have decided to make based on feedback received from the user conference.

Our team continues to grow with new strengths and capabilities. It is great to see individuals collaborating with one another, as well as setting the leadership tone within their departments or setting themselves as a leading example for others to follow. Going forward in all our newsletters, based on feedback received from the user conference.

We have also launched one of our largest offices in the business in the UK. We are looking at making positive investments in other geographies within the next 6-9 months in order to have offices closer to our larger concentration of customers. We simply want to get closer to our customers in order to facilitate a better collaboration between us moving forward.

I am also delighted to see that we continue to adhere to the highest ethical standards when conducting business - whether you are a customer, employee or partner. You will find integrity, commitment and excellence in doing business with ShipNet. Commitment to our core values and mission/vision remains stronger than ever.

I hope you enjoy reading the second version of our newsletter. There will be a special edition that we will be releasing end of July on our user conference, so stay in touch.

R2 is here

On the commercial side, we have developed a new version of the Task Manager, integrating it more closely with the Voyage Manager. We truly hope that you will find the new user interface more intuitive and easier to use. We strongly recommend that you take a closer look at this and see if it can assist you and your colleagues in performing your daily tasks.

The application SN Outlook, which has been with us for more than two decades has not been retired, this means that it will still be available but will no longer receive upgrades or enhancements. This feature is slowly being replaced with a new .Net based functionality which is an integral part of the Voyage Manager. This makes it possible to create e-mail templates that can be accessed from various parts of Voyage Manager. These templates can be made available from voyage level, port call level or task level.

In one of the versions released about a year ago, we expanded the feature that allows linking files, documents, e-mails etc. to a voyage estimate, a voyage or port call in Voyage Manager and several other places. The feedback we have got was that this is a nice feature, but it lacked the ability to search for and retrieve attachments. We have addressed this issue by introducing what we call the “File Cabinet”.

We have added a new feature to the Voyage Estimator functionality called “Re-evaluate voyage”. This will replace (or be an addition to) the “Retrieve Present Voyage”. It will allow the user to retrieve the latest updated information for an ongoing voyage and compare the effect of adding another cargo and/or ports.

On 30 April 2018, we officially released our R2 2018 software. This release comes with some really impressive enhancements across the whole solution and we truly hope that all of you, will upgrade and reap the benefits that these enhancements have to offer.

The financial team have introduced Pivot View within the Query and Report Centre. The Pivot Query consists of a period analysis and a cost centre analysis. Period based analysis will produce the report with respective periods as columns, while cost centre-based analysis will produce the report based on the cost centre being used and list the columns accordingly. Both reports have drill down features.

The team behind our technical solutions has also been busy, and highlights include the user experience enhancements that we have made to the Occurrence Explore, where we have now added a “hamburger” menu on the left-hand side for easier navigation.

We have also released our enhanced Planned Maintenance mobile solution, which has been rebranded and skinned according to our new theme - a theme that you will start seeing more of in all of our product lines. We have also updated our features so that you can now do unscheduled work orders on the go and make use of the advanced smart forms solution that we have added to the mobile version.

With this release we really hope that we will bring even more value to your businesses.

- The ShipNet Team Moving on to procurement, the team has delivered a function for setting a restriction in the ability to order specific equipment categories against set order types. Another great function that has been added is the ability to do inter-warehouse transfers, stock movementsand consolidations of shipments from one warehouse to another with complete financial and logistical control and tracking. If we may say so ourselves…

This new look and feel is the first in a series of planned beautifications that we will be implementing in the upcoming releases.

We are taking the world of UI/UX (User- Interface/Experience) very seriously as we understand that great software is not only rich in functionality but is easy to use while being aesthetically pleasing.

With the release of R2 2018, we have made

a significant change to one of our products

- the release of our new skin theme for the

Planned Maintenance mobile app.

This new look and feel is in line with the new ShipNet, which forms part of the ShipNet internal upgrade process to further stress the fact that we are working hard to accomplish all of the goals set out for us, which will in turn be greatly beneficial to our customers.

We hope that you will find this new design as good looking as we do - we cannot wait to show you more as we progress through the implementation of a more beautiful look across our .Net products.

IMPLEMENTING something beautiful

Page 5: DEAR PARTNERS and Colleagues, - ShipNet · We are taking the world of UI/UX (User- Interface/Experience) very seriously as we understand that great software is not only rich in functionality

Can you give us an overview of Ernst Jacob as an organisation? Ernst Jacob is a family owned company, currently run by the 3rd generation. Today the fleet consists of 6 tankers (2 Suezmax and 4 Panamax) which operate in both clean and dirty trade. Ernst Jacob offers the full scope for commercial, crewing and technical management.

Ernst Jacob Shipping has been safely and successfully navigating the waters of international sea shipping since 1955. What do you think has contributed to the success of the organisation? Ernst Jacob is like my second family. I strongly believe that this way of running a company, and the way we adapt to new things in the market, are the reasons why Ernst Jacob is still here 63 years later and will continue to exist in the future.

You are one of the biggest role players in the tanker shipping industry. What would you say is key to ensuring that you stay on top of your competition? Being able to adapt to change quickly and effectively. In modern shipping, you need to be able to change the way you are as a person and constantly adapt to new things. If not, I don’t think that there is a place for you in shipping in the future.

How important is HSEQ management to Ernst Jacob? Very important, and year after year it is getting even more important and even more significant.

The industry rules and the demand for oil is getting bigger and bigger. Therefore, the HSEQ Management also needs to develop - a good and robust management system is very important.

How did you first learn about ShipNet, and what persuaded you to enter into a working relationship with us? When I started at Ernst Jacob in 2012, the contract had been signed and we started up a couple of months after. It was a big task to implement ShipNet but it has been great fun to be part of the team.

We are in the process of doing it again with the upgrade to ShipNet One.

How has ShipNet helped Ernst Jacob achieve some of your organisational goals? We wanted to reduce paper and administration jobs. Additionally, we wanted to be able to communicate with real-time data between office and ship.

With ShipNet, all that has become possible.

What do you value in ShipNet as a partner? I value that you can communicate, and be able to influence the future, with ShipNet.

Are there any best practices that you can share with the broader ShipNet community? A best practice in my eyes is to be part of all stages when setting up the system. I am an administrator, trainer and end user in almost all modules, so I know how to use the system.

SHIPNET: Quick Questions

It is the policy of Ernst Jacob Shipping to provide safe and environmentally friendly services. How do you ensure that you able to follow this policy?

It is pretty simple. Safety comes before all else as we need to get the seamen home to their families in one piece. We have a very good open reporting system with ShipNet where we a have the opportunity to report either as Near Miss, NCR or Complaint. Additionally, we have different safety elements such as stop work authorities, reflective learning and learning engagement tool.

In October 2015, we got certified for ISO 14001, but we had always had our focus on the environment before that. In 2012 our ships were equipped with internet, so we didn’t need to fly company papers around the world. Additionally, we went online with ShipNet. We also installed ECDIS and e-publication on board our vessels.

In the next 5 – 10 years, what would you like to see change within the industry, and do you think that the ShipNet and Ernst Jacob Shipping partnership will play a role in this

I hope that more electronic ways of doing the things on-board will come. We still print and use a lot of paper due to the demands from oil majors and terminals - which is unfortunate.

It is important that the new method of doing things in the future is easier and faster in order to assist the seamen and not to make their lives more difficult.

I believe that ShipNet can play a very big role in taking Ernst Jacob to the next level.

SHIPNET: Quick Questions

The ShipNet LNG Shipping software solution applies to the sea transportation of LNG cargoes in the LNG supply chain.

The solution covers the entire range of Commercial and Technical Management technology capabilities that are required by a fleet of LNG vessels. Our continuous engagement and discussions with industry experts and customers has enabled us to collect valuable knowledge and capture unique elements of Conventional, Non-Conventional and Mega ships.

Through one of our innovative products, ShipConnect, vessel masters can submit a comprehensive set of forms in order to capture valuable information. Upon submission of all this information, it auto-updates ShipNet in the office, post approval of data. ShipNet has entered a new era where the time-demanding data input effort required yesterday is now significantly reduced. The LNG solution has complete coverage on key functions in LNG voyage management such as:

• Maintaining vessel and delivery constraints• Checks on terminal compatibility• Live interface of planning solutions to fetch cargo delivery schedules

• Manage vessel scheduling• Bunker planning• Fuel optimisation (LNG and Fuel)• Real-time voyage management• Voyage optimisation• Deviation management based on stoppages• Delays and deviation reporting• Position reporting by vessels• Email alerts on key events• Voyage data repository to electronically store all voyage reports reported by vessels• Automate shipping analysis by providing tools for voyage analysis• Fleet utilisation• Fleet pooling reconciliation• Shipping cost evaluations• KPI’s to measure voyage performance• Performance claims (BOG/Loading/ Discharging/Speed/Fuel etc)• Vessel tracking through StratumFive OTiS and comparison of the captain’s reporting data against satellite services• Vessel certifications• LNG cargo inventory reporting• Document management systems for the fleet and office

The above are some examples of unique features available, however, there are many other features in the solution that enable the operators to become more effective on their day to day transactions.

Let’s think about a different world for a change…

• What if LNG Shipping used one unique platform for the LNG supply chain where the connected vision could be realised? • What if Vessel Masters reports were shared across various stakeholders involved in each shipment?

We now offer our customers an exciting journey; we have major industry leaders onboard who are open to sharing best practices and ideas and this has already started across our customer base.

For customers who are interested to know about this solution, please contact Chris Kalamaras at [email protected]

We have a market-leading position across offering technology solutions to the LNG sector, we want to invest more time and effort in taking this more ahead aligned to your unique ideas and business needs.

Tell us a bit about yourself. I am a very positive person always seeking to find the best in each situation. I would describe myself as ambitious and someone who is always chasing opportunities in order to develop my personal and professional growth. What is your role at ShipNet and what does it entail? I started as a Junior Support Consultant in January 2016 and I am now a Customer Success Manager on the commercial applications of the software. This entails ensuring that our commercial client base has their customer care needs met. Another important part of the role is to keep looking into ways to create a better workflow in order to further improve our client’s customer care experience. In your own words, what role does the maritime industry serve in our day to day lives? The maritime industry is all around us and is vital for today’s markets, which serve clients whose need for variety in their purchases increase continuously. The most vital point to mention is that the shipping industry has actually played a big role in improving the global living standards as well as the economy for many countries.

Does ShipNet live up to this? ShipNet is supporting this industry by allowing them to become more efficient and effective so that they can provide services at speeds that the industry has never seen before. ShipNet enables the industry to improve its performance by enabling companies to optimise their daily processes and therefore supports for the economic growth of the maritime world. What would you say is the vision, mission and goals of ShipNet? Our vision is to create a community for the shipping industry which shares the same success when it comes to using an efficient and always improving software. Our mission is to never stop seeking what our customers’ needs are and providing them with the product that will best service them. Our goals are to create a simpler world for the people working in the industry and provide them with time to focus on their core business. What competitive advantage do you have over other maritime software services currently on the market? One of the main differences that brings us competitive advantage is that the software has existed for more than 25 years and with each and every year that passes, the team working towards developing this product has never stopped striving to make it stronger. Today, we are the one and only solution on the market which is fully integrated.

How do you measure success and how would you define it? I measure success with customer stories. There is nothing better than speaking to a happy customer who shares their positive experience with you.

What has been your greatest learning experience, and how has this affected your career? When I started working at ShipNet I only knew shipping on paper. Since then I have learnt so much more about each segment of the industry and how it actually operates. The people working in the company have helped me tremendously in developing my skills set and have shown me what it is like to work with a great team.

What investments have you made in order to ensure the future of the company? I have spent a significant amount of time learning the system in order to ensure I can provide quality support when speaking to our commercial customers. I really believe that a customer can truly be satisfied when they have a good support representative to reach out to.

How do you see the company changing in two years, and how do you see yourself creating that change? With my new role as a Customer Success Manager, my mission is to make a change by creating a strong customer relationship with each and every client I speak to, and by assuring them that my team and myself understand their needs and are always ready to listen. I believe that in two years the customer care satisfaction level will be even higher as we continue to investigate new ways of doing things.

What would you say is the long-term goal of ShipNet? To further strengthen its global position by creating more features that are currently missing in the industry, as well as create a community of companies that share the same values.

THE EVOLUTION of Procurement

In today’s highly competitive marketplace, it’s imperative that shipping businesses adopt new ways to streamline their supply chain and optimise productivity. We believe that organisations such as yourselves can create better visibility within your supply chain, get more control over your business and stay ahead of the competition by pursuing a digital agenda. One of the key challenges that has the potential to disrupt the dynamics of the current supply chain is driven by big data.

As big data becomes increasingly more intertwined into corporate decision-making processes, best-in-class procurement organisations will need to utilise advanced data mining and analysis techniques along with benchmarking across different organisations to leverage and improve existing processes and drive lower cost.

New technologies will consolidate all aspects of the supply chain into one place which will allow you to digitally organise inventory data, monitor and manage shipping and tracking information, and create electronic invoices with ease. You can reduce the time spent shipping, receiving, tracking and compiling order data, which will save your company both time and money.

The latest analytical reports suggest that 2018 will be the year that procurement becomes smarter and

more cognitive, meaning it will use more analytics-driven processes in decision-making and activities.

This will, by the same analysis, increase cost efficiency by 10%, as well as increase service performance

by 5% over the next two years.

THE EVOLUTION of Procurement

Simplify your supply chain

Its commonly known that negotiating fixed contracts across the world with suppliers is a preferred option, rather than purchasing through ad-hoc suppliers each time. By simplifying the

supply chain and disposing of unnecessary suppliers, you can improve efficiency, reduce expenditures and lower your risk.

The journey to supply chain 2025

Of all the procurement trends we have seen in the industry, the implementation and utilisation of procurement and payment systems allow procurement professionals across buyers,

vendors, warehouses and freight forwarders to handle the entire procurement process much faster and efficiently.

The importance of strong, robust procurement processes for both supply and logistics procurement needs cannot be overstated. Supply chain executives must understand industry trends when it comes to procurement and leverage this information to make informed decisions about change management, new technology and ways to reduce procurement costs throughout the supply chain.

The future will be here faster than you think, and the speed at which the supply chain is

evolving means that in order to be ready for 2025 initiatives, improvements and investments must be made now. This shift in finding tomorrow’s procurement leaders will mirror the overall transformation for all procurement teams, in which they move beyond the role of buyers that exclusively specialise in finding, acquiring and ensuring the timely delivery of goods and services. Companies that begin adapting to the new procurement landscape today will be poised to seize a competitive edge in the decade ahead.

Consolidation and management of contracts with suppliers directly can greatly reduce expenses

and create a simpler and more efficient supply chain.

As a result, buyers buy more, vendors sell more and more freight is shipped.

FINDING Quality

At ShipNet R&D, we expect each and every team member to look for ways to improve our product quality. This is a story of a small team taking responsibility with a great outcome. While working on one development task, a senior developer detected a performance anomaly that did not make sense. “Jumping down the rabbit hole” resulted in product improvement that will be of great benefit to all customers.

In our current development cycle (2018 R3), Petter Mosebekk is leading a team to optimise our Azure hosting infrastructure, especially for big customers with hundreds of users. Azure can dynamically allocate resources – you only get charged for the time a server is “online”. Petter was not satisfied with the performance, the CPU resources were being consumed too quickly in our load tests. So, he wrote a test framework that mimicked the FST/App Server functions – and it was much faster than our full server functionality.

And so, along with Ben Anders (our multitier server developer), they jumped down the rabbit hole with clear instructions to avoid any smoking rabbits. Through this journey, Ben updated a critical Microsoft component that we use for data access– and our load tests improved by a factor of three! This also improved overall performance on our 30 and 50 user automated load tests.

We are currently looking at incorporating this Microsoft update into service releases for all customer versions affected. And so, our internal “rock star” award goes to Ramprasad Rangachary (QA Manager) who quickly enabled load testing tools in our Azure development environment, Petter Mosebekk (Dev Leader) who observed abnormal behaviour using the load test results, and Ben Anders (FST Developer) who traced the Microsoft update. These three worked as a great team to solve a mystery and improve our products!

It gave me a lot of confidence and now I am leading more projects in the technical product lines.

What would you say has been your biggest win to date? ShipNet One Technical product delivery to the market.

The interest in the maritime industry, as well as the software that powers it, seems to be growing. Why do you think that is? I completely agree with this statement. Software is the backbone of maritime industry and with the help of this software, the maritime industry is going to the next level by providing better quality services to their customers.

What investments have you made in order to ensure the future of the company? We have created strong development processes around the right set of tools and technology. I was one of the main contributors in setting up this process. This will ensure that our products are developed with the highest quality and meets our customer expectations and requirements.

How do you see the company changing in two years, and how do you see yourself creating that change? As a Development Manager, I expect more customers will be migrated into new technology products, particularly technical and procurement, in the next two years. This requires a more innovative approach to upgrade the customers, as well as extensive support from the development team for a seamless upgrade process.
