Dear participants of Espoo 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships
A very warm welcome to everyone in to Espoo!
We are ready for the 10th IBSA goalball World Championships. In these games there will
be 164 athletes and 111 staff persons from twenty different countries. Nineteen referees
represent sixteen different countries.
The city of Espoo offers great circumstances for the competition. The organizing
committee has worked over a year to be sure that the competition guests will have the
best possible facilities and atmosphere in Espoo. I am sure that you all will enjoy in these
games in the beautiful Finnish summer. I also wish that every athlete will remember these
games as a true Fair Play games.
My special thanks go to the excellent organizing committee and to the employees of city of
Espoo sport department; it has been a great pleasure to work with you all. Over hundred
skillful volunteers have made it possible to arrange these games. I hope they will
experience unforgettable moments in the international goalball spirit.
The games are ready to start – I wish you all a lot of great moments of joy and success in
the Espoo 2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships. In the end of the games we have six
happy teams on their way to Rio Paralympics 2016!

2 TRANSPORTS
Arrival Transports to and from the airport will be organized by buses. The
host of your team is waiting you at the airport with a sign: Espoo
2014 IBSA Goalball World Championships & your flag.
You will recognize the hosts from the white shirt & blue trousers.
Your host will escort you to the hotel.
Daily buses Transports between hotel and competition venues will be organized by buses, see the
schedule below.
The bus stop is front of the hotel main door and in the competition near the Tapiola Sport
Hall.

3 COMPETITION OFFICE
Competition office will be in Summa Hall.
Only staff members can enter the competition office.
All countries will get all needed information from there.
The office will be daily open: 8:00 am – 9:00 pm
The daily results you can find from the website www.goalball2014.fi and from the score
board on the playing halls.
4 INFO
Info desk will be in the front of Tapiola Sport Hall and it is open 8 am – 8 pm. There you
will find all information from host city Espoo, transportation and competition.
There you can also buy the competition souvenirs.

5 MEAL SERVICE
Meals buffet are served in the GLO Hotel Sello and in the
competition area in Ratiopharm Arena.

6 MEETINGS

Technical meeting 29th June at 9:00 pm, GLO Hotel Sello, 9th Floor
7 CLASSIFICATION
The classification period is on 27th – 29th June.
Classification will take place in Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired (FFVI).
Transportation to and from the classification will be arranged to the teams.
See Map A for the location; it will take about 25 minutes from the hotel or venue.
The schedule for the classification will be delivered to the teams later.
Note!
Remember to bring all necessary original and valid documents to the classification!
8 MEDICAL CARE
Red Cross - First Aid services
The First Aid room is in Summa Hall.
It is open from June 27th to 5th July at 9:00 am – 9:00 pm.

Massage The massage tables are available and free to use for the teams in the Summa Hall.

9 DOPING CONTROL
The Anti-Doping testing team is present at the games.
According to the international IBSA Anti-Doping rules, in case of athlete
necessarily needs to use forbidden drugs, a Standard TUE Application
Template must be valid. This form must be with you when you will come to Espoo 2014
World Championships.

12 COMPETITION RULES
The tournament will follow the IBSA goalball rules.
13 ACCOMMODATION
The accommodation for the teams is in GLO Hotel Sello in
Espoo, Leppävaara. There are rooms for two persons with
bathroom and toilet.

14 WELCOME PARTY
The Welcome Party is on Friday 27th June at 7:00 – 8:30 pm
in Sello Hall in foyer.
Two persons from each team are welcome to join the Welcome Party.
15 OPENING CEREMONIES
The Opening Ceremonies are on Sunday 29th June at 7:00 – 8:00 pm in Sello Hall, on the
upper floor of Sello shopping centre.
The gathering for the opening ceremonies will start at 6:30 pm outside Sellosali (the hosts
will assist the teams).
All teams are welcome to the opening ceremonies. It is recommended that all teams will
wear the team’s uniform.

16 PRICING CEREMONIES
The pricing ceremonies will take place right after the men’s final game in Tapiola Sports
Hall on Saturday 5th July.
17 BANQUET

19 LAUNDRY
SOL laundry service can be found from the Sello shopping mall.
When you leave the laundry, you will get it back on the next day. Remember to check the
time to pick!

Watch the games via Internet and TV!
Finnish National Broadcast Company (Yle) broadcasts 2014 IBSA Goalball World
Championships. Matches from Sport Hall Tapiola can be followed via Internet, from Yle
Areena service. At the start of the tournament the matches are broadcasted without
commentary and at the final matches there will be a Finnish commentary. The gold medal
matches are broadcasted in Yle TV2 television channel and at least men’s final will be live
coverage.
All the matches from Sport Hall Tapiola are broadcasted in Yle Areena and they will be
available also for foreign viewers also. How to find the streaming?
