DEAR PARTICIPANT,
This Two Day International Conference will explore STEM and SME opportunities to forge international business between Hungary, the CEE market and New Jersey. We will focus the conference to promote international partnerships and collaboration. Over two days we will discuss common themes through education, technology, policy, law, and finance to advance cooperation for commerce and trade between our regions. The Conference will take place at two separate locations: one at ELTE Faculty of Law on October 16, 2018 which is open to the public. The other one is an invitation only private event taking place on October 17, 2018. Besides, several pri-vate cocktail, dinner and guided tours of Budapest will also be built into the program. There will be coordinated meetings through the America Hungarian Chamber of Commerce to allow our business and policy leaders a chance to leverage opportu-nity value with Hungary and New Jersey and advance commercial activity between our two regions. The core objective of this project is to allow for collaboration and promotion of new markets between New Jersey and Hungary (& the CEE Region) to support STEM and SME growth.

Thomas H. Kean, Jr., Senator, New Jersey Senator Thomas H. Kean, Jr. represents District 21, which includes portions of Morris, Somerset and Union counties. Senator Kean was chosen by his colleagues to serve as the Senate Minority Leader for the 2017-2018 Legislative Session; it is a position he has held since 2008. The senator is a member of the Senate Higher Education, the Senate Commerce and the Legislative Oversight Committees. Senator Kean is a graduate of Dartmouth College. He has completed his Doctoral Studies, A.B.D., in international relations at Tufts University’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, where he also received his M.A.L.D. and was employed as a Graduate School instructor.

Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle was elected to the New Jersey General Assembly in 2005. She is now serving her seventh term representing the 37th District. She served four terms as the Chair of Human Services prior to her new appointment as the Chair of Homeland Security and State Preparedness. In 2015, she was named Deputy Speaker of the General Assembly. Ms. Vainieri Huttle has sponsored several landmark laws including the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, the Human Trafficking Prevention, Protection, and Treatment Act, and the Stephen Komninos’ Bill to protect individuals with development disabilities from abuse. She has also led efforts to reform the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and has successfully championed raising the minimum age to purchase tobacco products to 21 and has been at the forefront of promoting LGBT rights. Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle is also the Vice Chair of the Labor Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Tourism Gaming & the Arts Committee, and serves as an ex officio member of the New Jersey State Council of the Arts. In 2003, she helped establish the Bergen Perform-ing Arts Center in Englewood. Since 2012, Ms. Vainieri Huttle has hosted the District 37 Young Women’s Leadership Program aimed at introducing high school students in her district to government and public service.Assemblywoman Vainieri Huttle attended Rider University and graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson Uni-versity with a B.A. in English. Since 1981, she has served as president and director of Vainieri Funeral Home, a family owned business in North Bergen. She served on the Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders from 2001 to 2007, and as chair from 2003-2005. Jamel Curtis Holley was appointed in 2015 to fill a seat in the New Jersey General Assembly represent-ing the 20th Legislative District. The appointment made Holley the first African American to represent the district in the New Jersey Legislature. Assemblyman Holley was later elected in to the seat in 2017. Prior to becoming an Assemblyman, he served as Mayor of the Borough of Roselle and also as Coun-cilman-at-Large. Assemblyman Holley received a Bachelor of Science Degree from New Jersey City University in 2002 and holds a Master of Public Administration Degree from Kean University. In 2012, Sue Henderson became the twelfth president and first woman to become President at New Jersey City University. Now in her sixth year, she has accomplished a range of transformational initia-tives, including the creation of NJCU School of Business and relocation to a 70,000-square foot, state-of-the-art facility in Jersey City’s financial district. She spearheaded the implementation of a $350 million West Campus plan which features a fully integrated, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use development for a student residence hall, academic building and performance arts center, a fitness center, supermarket, and shops and restaurants; and hired one quarter of the faculty within the past three years in areas identified as critical to meeting academic needs in high-demand fields of study.

Laszlo is an associate professor of the New Jersey City University, focusing on international security. He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations, studied at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and at the J.F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard. He was resident fellow of the Institute for East-West Security Studies, NYC. He served as a career diplomat with the Hungarian foreign service for two de-cades, e.g. as deputy state secretary for multilateral relations; deputy head of the State Secretariat for EU Integration; consul general and then ambassador of Hungary to the UN in NYC. His international diplo-matic assignments related mainly to international security and nuclear nonproliferation. He was executive director of Cisco with responsibilities in government affairs, business development and cybersecurity. He is a consultant of the Paris-based Cybersecurity Advisors Network.

Attila Menyhárd is a full professor of civil law and the head of the department at Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Law, Civil Law Department (Budapest). His special research fields are: contract law, tort law, property law, company law, human rights and private law and economic analysis of law. He promoted with PhD degree in 2003 in ELTE Law Faculty, Budapest with the thesis on immoral contracts. He habilitated in 2007 with his book on property law and his thesis on human rights in private law. He is a full professor since 2012. He is the author of four books and more than eighty other publications in tort law, contract law, property law, company law, law and economics and human rights in private law in Hungarian, English and German language in Hungary as well as in abroad. He is teaching the whole range of private law and has special courses in contract law, tort law, property law, commercial law, law and economics, law and literature, human rights in private law, European business law and European company law. Upon the invitation of the Ministry of Justice he contributed the project for a new Hungarian Civil Code being responsible for the provisions on property law and rent law. He is participant in several international research projects and programs. He is the Hungarian fellow of European Tort and Insurance Law (Wien). He is the fellow of the Institute for Legal Studies, Centre of Social Sciences, Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is a listed member of the Arbitration Court attached to the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Budapest.

Paul Hoffman is the President and CEO of Liberty Science Center, an interactive science museum in Jersey City, New Jersey, near the Statue of Liberty. Liberty Science Center, which is visited by 750,000 students and adults annually, houses the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere and 150,000 square feet of hands-on exhibitions on science and technology. The Center is building a 14-acre mini-city called SciTech Scity to launch new high-tech businesses and reinvent grade-school science education. Paul’s ties to Hungary are deep. He is the author of The Man Who Loved Only Numbers, the award-win-ning bestselling biography, published in 16 languages, of the eccentric Hungarian mathematician Paul Erdős. With the designer and architect Ernő Rubik, and the support of Google and the Hungarian government, Paul developed an international traveling museum exhibition to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Rubik’s Cube. Paul is on the board of advisors of the Budapest-based Judit Polgar Chess Foundation, a non-profit started by Judit Polgar, the strongest female chess player ever, that supports novel learning programs for socially and mentally disadvantaged children.

He graduated at the Budapest University of Economics Sciences in 2000 and earned a degree at the Eötvös Loránd University’s (ELTE) Institute for Postgraduate Legal Studies in 2006. Since the early 2000s, Mr. Szeniczey was responsible for market surveillance procedures related to market abuse cases, the management of investigation units, the coordination of joint investigations and legal assistance in preventing market abuse on financial markets at the Central Bank of Hungary (Magyar Nemzeti Bank – MNB) and the Hungarian Financial Supervisory Authority (HFSA) as Head of the Market Surveillance Department.

Before joining the HFSA Mr. Szeniczey gained a relevant market experience in different manager and compliance officer positions in the investment banking sector.In 2015, after heading the Market Surveillance Department for many years, Mr. Szeniczey became the Director of the Capital Markets and Market Supervision Directorate, being responsible for financial and capital market monitoring, investigative and prudential supervisory activities. Since May 2016, Mr. Szeniczey serves as Executive Director of Consumer Protection and Market Supervision in the MNB. He is currently responsible for managing two directorates: Directorate for Capital Markets and Market Supervision and Directorate for Consumer Protection, furthermore he is also responsible for managing market monitoring activities. He participates in several national and international organizations and is a Member of the Board of Supervisors of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). He also represents MNB in different committees of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). In 2018 Mr. Szeniczey acted as the chair of IOSCO’s Presidents Committee. The Foundation for the Sustainable Rule of Law Initiatives (FSRI)FSRI is a non-profit NGO dedicated to creating and supporting viable and sustainable mediation and alternate dispute resolution programs in developing democracies around the globe. We train, educate, counsel and assess these programs. Our goal is to provide access to justice to underserved populations in overburdened and backlogged court systems through timely, fair and peaceful resolution of disputes.
FSRI travels to host countries upon their invitation, to help develop and implement court-annexed and private mediation programs in a manner best suited to each country’s unique cultural, historical and legal systems. Once the programs are established, FSRI assists the host country to independently manage their custom-designed programs going forward. FSRI provides training to judges, attorneys, mediators and court personnel about the advantages of mediation, advanced mediation techniques, and “best practices” to refer cases to mediation and to implement quality mediation programs. Follow up trips are made to monitor, assess and improve program quality, counsel and coach judges, attorneys and mediators, and to address problems that may have arisen along the way.

Ken also prepares and negotiates contracts and license agreements for financial services, technology and e-commerce companies and advises clients on cyber risk insurance and other information use safeguards. COMMERCE magazine is a business to business magazine with a readership of more than 40,000 professionals. Prior to his current position, Mr. Russo served as Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Communications for CIANJ as well as Deputy Executive Director of the National Lime Association in Washington, DC representing the interests of mining companies producing calcium oxide (aka lime) at the federal level. Mr. Russo started his career at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection as a senior engineer issuing water quality permits. He then spent 5 years as an environmental consultant working for two firms, GES and ERM. He began his government affairs career when he served as Director of Regulatory and Legislative Affairs for the Chemistry Council of NJ, representing chemical and pharmaceutical companies in Trenton on legislative and environmental matters.A graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) with a degree in mechanical engineering, Mr. Russo resides in Jackson, NJ with his wife Judy and two daughters, Julia and Jaclyn.
