SCHOOL MEALS £2.15

School meals are available on the premises and are provided by an external company – ISS

PLEASE go through the menu in advance with your child so that on the days when the choices are not to your child’s liking s/he can bring in a packed lunch, or meals can be pre-ordered on line. It is helpful if school meals are paid on Fridays weekly/monthly or termly in advance – but you can also pay daily, or you can pay on-line by setting up an account at www.feedhungryminds.co.uk. Please make sure that any dinner money is sent to school in a named envelope with the days meals are required clearly marked. Cheques should be made payable to ‘ISS Catering’ please also put your child’s name on the back of the cheque – we know if there is a difference but the cook doesn’t! Meals must be paid for in advance. If your child has any special dietary requirements, you will need to complete a ‘Special Diet Referral Form’, available from the ISS website, or from the school office.

PACKED LUNCHES

Children are very welcome to bring packed lunches but we would ask that no sweets or fizzy drinks are included. Packed lunch containers should be clearly named and stored on the lunch trolley inside or outside the classroom. PLEASE NO PRODUCTS CONTAINING NUTS AS WE HAVE CHILDREN IN SCHOOL WITH SEVERE ALLERGIES.

PLAYTIME SNACKS

Children may bring in fruit to consume at morning play. Crisps, biscuits or sweets are not allowed.

JUNIOR FRUIT SCHEME

All infant children receive a piece of fresh fruit daily. We are able to extend this scheme to juniors for £13.50 per term. Order forms will be sent home and are available on the school website.

SCHOOL BAGS

As cloakroom space is very limited, you are asked to ensure that your child’s bag is of a reasonable size and can be hung from the

cloakroom peg. Your child should be encouraged to wear ‘sensible school shoes’ with a low or flat heel, trainers are to be worn for P.E. only. Please encourage your child to pack their bag the night before ready for the next day.

P.E

Indoor PE is done barefoot. Trainers or plimsolls are needed for outdoor games. Long hair should be tied back for safety. Shorts and a tee shirt in school colours are required (white or navy blue) - replica football kits or ‘bermuda type’ shorts are not deemed suitable. Tee shirts with the school logo are available from the office. Tracksuits can be worn in the winter months.

PE KIT SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL ON MONDAYS AND REMAIN IN SCHOOL ALL WEEK. Please ensure that all your child’s items are clearly named.

JEWELLERY

If your child has pierced ears, a small stud or sleeper is allowed but must be removed or covered for PE. Watches are the only other item of jewellery permitted.

Hair

If your child has long hair, please provide them with a hair band to tie their hair up for practical activities.

The school operates a Drop Off facility from 8.30a.m. If you wish your child to take part in this, please contact the office for information and to sign up. When using this facility, please do not park in the lay-by when dropping children, this area is just for ‘drop and go’.

All Other Children should not arrive before 8.45am.

When the first bell rings at 8.55am children should enter the school building and be in the classroom ready for registration by the time the second bell rings at 9am. Children should not be in the classroom before the bell goes without permission. If you arrive late please accompany your child to the office to sign in. If for any reason you are late collecting your child at the end of school, s/he must wait in the entrance office/reception area and not in the front of the school until you arrive. Burghfield Oaks Afterschool Club operates from 3:15pm until 6:00pm.

PARKING

So that we can minimise the risks to all our children and not antagonise local residents please do not :–

o park in School Roado reverse in or out of the staff car parko double parko perform ‘U’ turns in Theale Roado leave young children unattended in the caro park in the drop off zone from 8:15-9am

Please respect our neighbours

CLASS EQUIPMENT

Everything that your child will need for his/her work will be provided. In an attempt to avoid distractions, loss, misuse etc. we would be grateful if you do not let your child bring in pencil cases, calculators, gel pens etc. even for their own personal use.We are hoping that teacher time spent in previous years arbitrating over disputed ownership, lost and/or broken items or asking children not to fiddle with elaborate pencil cases can be put to better use.

WATER BOTTLE

The classrooms can become very stuffy so Junior children are permitted to have access to a water bottle, this can either be a personal bottle from home (clearly named), or children can subscribe to the water bottle scheme – details are sent home at the beginning of each term.

Home/School Diaries

Children in Years 1 – 6 will have a Home/School Diary – please make sure you check it regularly for messages and use it to send messages to us. Please also use it to record your comments each time you listen to your child read.

Homework

Please could you listen to your child read and discuss their reading at least 3 times a week. Use the homework diary to record comments and sign each time you listen to your child’s reading.Your child will also be expected to learn how to spell their phonics works and spelling and practice their times tables and number bonds. From time to time, there may be additional homework or projects which we will notify you about. Year 6 will have additional homework to prepare them for secondary school and their SATs.

Thank you in advance for supporting your child with their homework and making sure that they hand it in on time.

Finally

Feel free to visit your child’s teacher before or after school to discuss any concerns or just to look around, or ring the office to arrange an appointment. Your support in class or help around the school is also very much welcomed, please let us know if you’d like get involved. Thank you.
