Dear parents, students and community members,

We have been enjoying Education Week celebrations, and I would like to thank all of our students, families and staff for your enthusiastic support. It started with a Buddy Classroom Read-In on Monday in the Learning Centre where students got to share their favourite books. Tuesday saw

The middle school is deep into our Mappen task this term. The task is all about creativity, and are creating a ‘Stage Play’ with a view of a sales pitch and display for our showcase at the end of term. The students are working in groups to design a script, and design and make some props that would go with their play. We are kindly asking for some donations to help with our prop making. Below is a list of some things we can use now, however anything you think might be of help we would gladly take:

Boxes

Long cardboard tubes

Sheets of materials like cotton, satin etc

Tins

Planks of wood

Josh Tremelling : “This is the first time I have made something like this, it’s really fun to make props.” Luka : “My group is creating a story about a Captain who has his cargo ship taken over and he has to solve a problem to get out of that.” Thanks, very much from the Middle School Team.

We have been learning about Statistics and Probability Data Collections, while cleaning up our school yard! Congratulations to all of our Prep World members for their effort, and well done to our 6 Prep World representatives who spoke at assembly. We were all really impressed with your effort! On Wednesday, the Prep’s picked up rubbish in our school and we counted how much we found. (Shania) We picked up 287 bits of rubbish. (Byron) There was lots of rubbish on the oval. (Ada) We found some strange things like band aids, pens, plastic drink bottles, foam, forks and a coat hanger. (Robbie ) Can you please stop leaving rubbish in the yard. (Salem) We helped the world because we cleaned it up. If you drop rubbish the world gets sick. (Natalie) Katie Sanford

Students from Grades One and Two have been focusing on multiplication. We’ve been practising our skip counting, making equal groups of things, placing them in arrays, and sharing out collections equally. This is what some of us have found out Malik shared eight lollies, between two teddies. He found out they would get four lollies each. Levi discovered that twelve lollies shared between four teddies is three. Ruby made an array from her twelve lollies. She made 6 twos. Cayden made 12 ones. Hugh made 2 sixes. Lacey made 4 threes. Lilli-Rose made 3 fours. We discovered there were many ways to make an array using 12 objects. Can you think of more?

It has been a busy and productive Education week in the Senior School. On Tuesday we had the privilege of participating in the Black Ranges Winter Sports Carnival. Students nominated to play either netball, football or soccer. Although we did not come home with a shield, all the students played incredibly well, and were able to talk about successes in each of their games. There were many examples of a growth mindset and respect for each other and their opposing teams. Thank you for the support of our first homework task for this term. It was great seeing the Maths’ that our students were able to identify in the community and there were some challenging problems that were presented to each of the classes. Please remember that students should be starting to work on their second homework assignment, which is due at the end of the term. If your child has lost their sheet, they can easily be given another by their respective teacher. Production is going really well, we are progressing through Act 2 and our budding actors and singers are enjoying the roles they are playing. We will be sending out a call for help with costumes and props in the near future, so keep an eye out for that. Any help will be appreciated. The Senior School

Puzzles? Why are they good? Puzzling can build skills at every developmental stage. As children attempt to solve a puzzle, they learn to feel a sense of mastery. It also teaches them to persist, in order to accomplish a goal. Puzzles are fun too! They are a great way to spend quality time with your child. Try this one:

Move the Fish

Move three sticks and make the fish swim in the opposite direction.
