EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Yesterday I welcomed the Executive Director School Performance for Metropolitan North, Mrs Cathy Brennan, to Kent Road Public School. Mrs Brennan enjoyed the opportunity to view progress on the preparation for the building upgrade and to hear about the progress on our school targets over the year.
GOLD MEDAL ASSEMBLY
This Friday 16th November there will be a K-6 Gold Medal assembly in the assembly hall starting at 9.05am.
MAD NIGHT – FRIDAY 16th
NOVEMBER, 5pm
This Friday evening students in the before school dance groups, our school dance groups and school bands will perform in the school hall at this year’s celebration of Music, Art and Dance (MAD) Night.
K-2 SWIMMING
Students in Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two, except for 2S who will attend with the primary classes, started their swimming lessons yesterday. Teachers reported that the program got off to a great start.
Learning to swim is a skill for life and I thank parents for allowing their children to participate in swimming lessons, and the P&C for paying for the swimming buses which greatly reduces the costs of the program.
KINDERGARTEN 2019 – THANK YOU
The final Kindergarten 2019 Orientation session was held last Friday and it was another well-attended session. Many thanks to all parents who donated food for the morning tea each week; to Melanie and Rachel for organising the snacks for the pre-schoolers; to Kate, Fran, and the team of parents who sold uniform to the parents.
Orientation requires a lot of organisation but when we work so well as a team it not only shares the workload but creates a very positive impression of our school for our new families.
SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP
As part of the preparation for our building project the school uniform shop will be moved from its current location to closer to Herring Road entrance.
Should your child require new uniform items for the 2019 school year I encourage you to order/purchase these items before the end of this year as I cannot guarantee the shop will be operating by day one of the new school year.

STREET LIBRARY A team of students and teachers have recently designed and painted a beautiful
‘street library’ where members of the community are able to take a book and
leave a book for others to enjoy! It is located at the Watts Road shops in Ryde
– only a few minutes away from our school! Middleton Compounding Pharmacy
have kindly agreed to be the custodian of the library and will make sure that it
is well looked after by the community. Well done to Iana (1C), Jin Jin (2H),
Vanessa (2H), Divya (6I) and Ella (6I)!

Awesome Addition and Super Subtraction!
This term 1L has been practising their addition and subtraction skills during
maths. Our class has been getting faster and faster when adding two num-
bers together. We love working with a friend on the mini-whiteboards to
see who is faster!
Sometimes we play a game
together on the floor
where we write a number
between 5 and 20 on a
mini-whiteboard. We than
have two people show eve-
ryone the number they
have written down, and
the rest of the class have
to plus those two numbers
together. We even do this
with subtraction if we feel like a challenge!
We have also been learning
about fact families to help
us with our maths. With a
partner, we both agree on
a number two-digit number
and then write different
addition or subtraction
sentences for that number.

Yesterday the reading helpers from Years 5 and 6 were treated to a special lunch of pizzas and iceblocks as a reward for all of their hard work throughout the year. These dedicated students have been giving up time at lunch each week to read and encourage some of our Kindergarten students. I am very grateful for their contribution to this program and would like to say a special thanks to Miss Minard for her part in ensuring the program's success this year.
