Quote for the fortnight “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone
else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living
with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let
the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own
inner voice. And most important, have the courage to
follow your heart and intuition.”

Assemblies for the Next Couple of Weeks Assemblies will continue weekly via recording and uploading up to the end of week 5, whereupon Assembly
recordings will then move to fortnightly recording. All classroom Assemblies and Student Council Assemblies
are still cancelled for the rest of this term, unless an update from the Education Department indicate that
Parents are allowed to attend these Assemblies at school.
Edu-Dance Edu-Dance starts next week Wednesday, 20 May. We are accepting payment
at the moment. Please see our website for Payment Methods. During the first
couple of weeks, make up lessons will occur and we are still planning to have
the showcase Assembly on the last Wednesday of Term 2, 1 July. If we are not
allowed to have a special Assembly where parents can attend, then the
students will have an Assembly together in the morning with their item on the
stage and it will be recorded and uploaded for parents later that day.
I still hope to have this as a special Assembly this term so please place that in
your planner.
Semester One, Reporting to Parents Teachers are continuing to prepare comments for our Semester One, Reporting to
Parents.
No learning area grades will be provided during this semester. The reports will be
sent electronically on Friday, 26 June 2020 and we will not have early close nor
Parent Interviews during week 10 as per previous years.

Pyjama and Milo Day – Back by Popular Demand
Excitement is growing for our upcoming annual Pyjama Day.
Students are invited to wear their cosiest pair of pyjamas to school on
Thursday, 11 June for a gold coin donation. Funds raised will be used
for a local artist to paint another utility box at the front of the school.
The senior students will be selling Milo with marshmallows for $2 a
cup. We encourage students to bring in their
own mug to lessen waste.
Kindergarten 2021 Please assist us by verbally promoting our school to any prospective parents in your immediate
neighbourhood.
We are now taking Expressions of Interest for children starting Kindergarten (born between 1/7/2016 -
30/6/2017) and Pre-Primary (born between 1/7/2015 – 30/6/2016) in 2021. Consideration will be given to
students living outside the local intake area. Acceptance of an application, however, does not guarantee
enrolment at the same school for the following compulsory year unless the child lives in our school’s local-
intake area. For further queries, please phone 9233 8900. Enrolment packs are available to pick up from
the front office or can be downloaded and printed from http://www.poseidon.wa.edu.au/about-
poseidon/enrolment-policy/.
2021 applications close Friday, 24 July 2020.

Chaplain Corner Greetings Families,
Term 2 is upon us and it has been wonderful to see so many of the children’s
smiling faces again. Whilst things may look a little different, there’s a definite
buzz around in the excitement of being back at school.
In speaking with children in the playground, it’s been lovely to hear stories of the creative things done whilst
at home. In my chats with students I have encouraged them to focus on the things that they are grateful for
in their life. This term I am asking children to contribute to a “Gratitude Wall” to display in the Assembly
area. This will serve as a visual reminder for us to count our blessings instead of focusing on things that may
have been taken away.
Whilst reflecting on this time of change in our society, the word that has come most frequently to mind is
restoration. I’ve been thinking about how our society is like an antique piece of furniture. Over the years
it’s been knocked about, lacquered, painted over and recoloured according to fashions and tastes. Right
now we are experiencing a stripping away of the things we’ve grown accustomed to, just like one would strip
back the lacquer on a bit of furniture. We’re going through the process of sanding, and it’s abrasive, gritty
and often uncomfortable. But when all else is stripped away, we’re reminded that what’s left is what is truly
valuable – our connections to each other. My hope is that we will come out of this stronger, more resilient,
and full of gratitude.
As restrictions are easing, now might be a good time to think about some ‘family takeaways’ you can carry
forward into the next season. In our family, we’ve decided to make time for more walks and bike rides, as
this is something we have really enjoyed over the last couple of months. Ask your children what family
experiences they’ve enjoyed most and talk about how you can build this into your routine. You might like
to try some of the ideas below to help your family practice the art of gratitude. Practise practice
Five ways to practise gratitude with your family
1. Keep a gratitude journal or family gratitude jar
2. Pause to notice beauty in nature
3. Become a helper by volunteering to help in the community or
help your family and friends
4. Write a gratitude letter to someone
5. Look for the positives in your situation
I’m certainly feeling very grateful to be back at school and am looking forward to an excellent term ahead.
Warm regards,
Claire Willis | School Chaplain
