From Selling Beer to Selling Your Story

You know how to sell beer, but do you know how to sell your story to the media? Hear directly from journalists about what gets their attention, what makes a story and what earns positive coverage on the evening news or in the local

newspaper. This session also will include examples of successful distributor media coverage across the country.

Crafting Relationships With Legislators Today & Why It Matters Tomorrow

Next Generation Group member Mike Hopkins will share lessons he’s learned about establishing contact with elected leaders, building meaningful relationships and the value that will have when you may least expect it. Leadership WorkshopsStephanie Brun de Pontet, Ph.D., The Family Business Consulting GroupStephanie Brun de Pontet is a senior consultant of The Family Business Consulting Group, Inc. and expert advisor to family enterprises. Brun de Pontet’s work is driven by knowledge and experience

from the fields of management, entrepreneurship and psychology. She has extensive experience working with sibling teams and developing training programs to educate next generation family members. In addition to her consulting work, Brun de Pontet co-authored two well-regarded, practical books: Building a Successful Business Board and Siblings and the Family Business.

Brun de Pontet will present two workshops:

Five Dysfunctions of a Business TeamMonday, August 81:30 – 3:00 p.m.Every family and every business experiences dysfunction. The reality is that identifying the dysfunction can produce change, and change is good! Drawing from Patrick Lencioni’s book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, this program explores the causes and cures for absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment and inattention to results. This workshop is ideal for both family and non-family leaders wanting to build a cohesive, effective team.

It’s All Relative: Siblings, Cousins and the Family BusinessMonday, August 83:15 – 4:25 p.m.The family business becomes more complex as it shifts from one generation to the next. As siblings and cousins work together, family dynamics can become power struggles that threaten the business if not addressed appropriately. This workshop will offer practical solutions on how to set boundaries, deal with assumptions, get aligned and invest in sibling/cousin

relationships. This session also will address the power of effective governance and fun family interactions.

Steve Lytle, Clearpath Family AdvisorsSteve Lytle was a fourth generation participant in his family’s business, where he was employed for 23 years in roles ranging from “floor sweeper” and “bottle sorter” to chairman of the board. Today, Steve is a family business educator

and advisor with a focus on improving the quality of succession, governance and communication for complex, multi-generationally focused family enterprises.

Lytle will lead two sessions:

Principles of an Effective Family Business CultureMonday, August 81:30 – 3:00 p.m.Management and leadership guru Peter Drucker famously said, “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.” For family business, it could be said, “Culture eats structure for breakfast.” While effective strategic and succession planning are important, what really matters is the family’s culture, communication and cohesion. This 90-minute exploration focuses on the key principles and behaviors that underlie perhaps the most critical factor for true multi-generational family business success – culture.

Building Financial, Social and Human Capital Across the Business SystemTuesday, August 98:30 – 10:00 a.m.It could be said that the most critical factor to becoming successful is to effectively define success for YOUR organization. In this 90-minute module, we will explore three critical forms of “capital” (financial, social and human) and how they can collectively impact and define sustainable organizational success.

The New Work-Life Balance: Learn How To Be Present in Your LifeMonday, August 810:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Haydn Shaw, FranklinCoveyThroughout the day, you have a thousand things going on. And, in the evening, you try and get ahead of things for the next day. Work has become 24/7. You love what you do, but you wonder how to excel at work and still have time for life outside of work. The beer business is demanding, and trying to excel in a family-owned business adds its own challenges. How do we balance it all? Haydn Shaw, senior consultant for FranklinCovey, will help you identify where you spend your time so you can sort out what’s most important and organize your life by roles so that you can be “present” no matter what you are doing.
