Leaping SoundsMM 17

-Explain that you are going to say a letter sound and describe an action. Tell you child that if their name begins with that sound, they should perform the action, e.g., “If your name begins with the /s/ sound, hop on one foot.”

-Continue and use different objects around the house of family members' names. E.g., “If mommy starts with the /m/ sound, jump up and down.”

Hot or Cold 3-D Shapes MM 22

-Show and name several three-dimensional shapes. Explain that you will be hiding one of them. (use pictures or real objects that are the same shape) -Tell your child that they are “the finder” Have them cover their eyes while you hide the shapes.-You tell the child that you are going to say,”HOT!” when they are closer to the object and “COLD!” when they move away from the object. - Have them name the shape and tell where it was hidden. -Repeat the activity with another shape.

-Using three-dimensional shapes or shape cards, hold up a shape and describe it to your child.

-As your child if they can find that shape somewhere in the room.

-Invite them to look carefully and think creatively, e.g., a shirt may have a rectangular pocket or a window might be rectangular.

-Have your child feel the roundness or straight edges of the shape. Invite them to make the shapes with their bodies if possible.

● Gross Motor Activity - Children are encouraged to participate in a 15-30 minute gross motor activity daily. Activity examples include: Simon Says, Follow the Leader, hopscotch, dancing, obstacle course, hop-skip-jump, jumping jacks, Redlight-Greenlight running in place, Go Noodle ONLINE, or Mighty Minutes (see above in the Chart) Gonoodle.com has dancing and silly songs.
