“BEYOND THE BELL” After School Program: Monday through Friday from 2:15pm - 5:30pm

Your LCA tuition account will automatically be billed a $15 registration fee the first time your child attends the

“Beyond the Bell” After School Program. All payments for Beyond the Bell will be made monthly through LCA’s

billing system.

Prices: Each student will be charged a $6.00 daily rate. A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be billed after 5:35pm.

It is our philosophy to provide a safe, caring environment that offers each child a sense of belonging and bridges

the gap between school and home. Our program is designed as a complement to the school day. We provide a

creative curriculum to enrich the student’s social and academic needs. Recognizing the uniqueness of each child

and his/her family, we strive to provide a setting that promotes a feeling of security and well-being.

Assorted snacks and a drink ($0.75-$2.00 each item) are available for your child to purchase. Parents are welcome

to pack a snack for their children.

All discipline policies and procedures of LCA also apply to the After-School Program. Students are expected to

follow the rules of conduct as outlined in the LCA Handbook and demonstrate appropriate behavior while attending.

Disruptive behavior is grounds for dismissal from Beyond the Bell. School officials and parents will be notified of

such behavior and action taken by the BTB director. The “BTB” phone number is 234-9860, ext. 229.

May 2019 Dear Parents: Lafayette Christian Academy would like to remind all students in Grades 6th-12th of The required summer reading that is to be completed by August 19, 2019. Studies have shown that children who continue to read during the summer perform better in the fall when school resumes. Summer reading programs make educational reading activities fun and appealing to young people. When children read what they enjoy, they learn to love reading and become better readers. Attached, you will find the reading program guidelines and the selected books your child can choose for their appropriate grade level. These books may be found at the Lafayette Public Library. You can also purchase them from many bookstores in the Lafayette area or online such as Amazon.com or abebooks.com. Follow the guidelines, your child will receive 2 grades for the Summer Reading Program. A comprehensive test will be given during the first 2 weeks of school for both books. Each student must have the “completed reading list” signed and returned during the first week of school. If you have any questions, you can visit our website at www.lafayettechristianacademy.com or call the school office at 337-234-9860. Thank you for your support and participation in Lafayette Christian Academy’s Summer Reading Program.

God Bless You,

Mr. Broussard, Elementary Principal Mrs. Babin, High School Principal Mr. Norris, Superintendent

HONORS CLASSES ONLY

Requirements for Character Analysis

In addition to testing on both books, honors classes will be required to write a character analysis of one character from one of their novels.

All papers must be typed using MLA format. This paper will be due the 1st

Monday of school. Each day that the paper is late will result in a loss of points from your total grade. An MLA format is included in this packet.

Opening paragraph: Give a brief introduction to the novel and the character. Include a thesis that describes the character you are going to discuss. First body paragraph: Describe how the character appears to be at the beginning of the novel. This means to discuss their character traits and the kind of person they are at the beginning, not their physical appearance. Second body paragraph: Discuss the character in the middle of the novel and include any changes the character is going through. Be sure to include any force that caused the change. Third body paragraph: Describe the character as he/she is at the end of the novel. How has he/she changed, and what caused it? Was it a good or bad change? Why? Be sure in ALL THREE body paragraphs to include textual evidence from the novel to support your claims. Concluding paragraph: End with a concluding paragraph that either summarizes your introduction or teaches a lesson to the reader that can be learned through that character. Be sure to use third person.
