On 27 April popes John XXIII (1958-1963) and John Paul II (1978-2005) will be canonised in Rome. Both popes stand for the adaptation of the 2000-year-old Catholic church to the present day, stimulation of a dialogue with the other monotheistic religions and advancement of inter-Christian ecumenism. On 27 April popes John XXIII (1958-1963) and John Paul II (1978-2005) will be canonised in Rome. Both popes stand for the adaptation of the 2000-year-old Catholic church to the

present day, stimulation of a dialogue with the other monotheistic religions and advancement of inter-Christian ecumenism. In 1983 John Paul II marked a milestone in ecumenism when he was the first pope in history to preach a sermon from the pulpit of a protestant church during

his visit to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rome.

My parents (right image, in conversation with the pope) contributed to the success of this event by providing the antique armchair that did justice to the prestigious atmosphere and

which had been standing in our apartment in the hotel just minutes before. In honour of non-denominational communication and understanding, it is now on show in the staircase vestibule of the Victoria. Visit Rome in spring and be inspired by the ceremonies that are celebrated by a

pope who is looking to find the way towards a basic ecumenical church.

With the heartfelt Franciscan greeting

PACE e BENE
