The chair is held by Prof. Dr. Dodo zu Knyphausen-Aufseß. Prof. zuKnyphausen-Aufseß is a renowned expert on management science with a special focus on entrepreneurship. Prior to his call to TU Berlin, Prof. zu Knyphausen-Aufseß held a chair at the University of Bamberg for nine years. His recent research activities included the influence of different stakeholder groups on strategy building and financial analysts.

Our research scientist Petra Nikol will run the Grundlagen des strategischen undOur research scientist Petra Nikol will run the Grundlagen des strategischen und internationalen Managements - this module will be held in German.

Martin Heitmann will assist you in our course International Management: Comparative, Global and Regional Perspectives, which is taught in English and the course Multinationale Unternehmen, Erscheinungsformen und theoretische Perspektiven , which is taught in German. Furthermore he will be supervising the p , g p gResearch-practice-seminar about Open-Source Management.

Finally Hendrik Harren will be supporting the module: Planspiel Globale Unternehmensstrategien. This is a virtual competition where you have to decideupon strategic decisions of a manufacturing firm and you have to compete withother firms (groups of students).

Monique Goepel is currently conducting research in the joint-research-project Wertflex, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Union.

Magdalena Abt is conducting research on the role of human resource managers. 2

Our chair is currently offering five modules with different focuses.

On the left you see our basic module (beneath „Grundlagen“). This module is intended for bachelor students and shall give you an overview about the main

tools of strategic management and international management. It is split into two courses which are both available each semester. In addition, we are offering a business game project, where students can learn to interact and compete in abusiness game project, where students can learn to interact and compete in a near-realistic business simulation in a high-technology-branch.

The modules in the center of the chart beneath „Vertiefungsstufe 1“ deal with strategic management and international management. They are intended for master students. The module strategic management is only taught in winter terms. The module international management is only available in summer terms.

The module on the right (beneath „Vertiefungsstufe 2“) will give you the opportunity to get a deeper look into management science research as well as

opportunities for contact with real management tasks within external companies.

Each module will take four hours a week (not including time for your personalEach module will take four hours a week (not including time for your personal preparation). Each module is valid for 6 ECTS.

Furthermore we’ll be offering a Research-practice-seminar about Open-Source Management.

Goals of the seminar: The scientific deepening of current issues related to open source-based management development. This includes dealing with the current research methods, as well as the characteristics of the open source development. Participation will as well offer a good preparation for continuing research (i e bachelor master diploma or master thesis)research (i.e. bachelor, master, diploma or master thesis).

Wi-Ings, who are studying in a master program, can participate in up to three modules. These are the modules of „Vertiefungsstufe 1“ and „Vertiefungsstufe 2“.

Please keep in mind that you have to participate in at least one module of„Vertiefungsstufe 1“ before you can take part in „Vertiefungsstufe 2“.

The arrows in the drawing above illustrate the possible options you have forg p p ycombining the modules.

This depiction applies for Wi-Ings who want to attend the modules as part of their„Wahlpflichtbereich“ (compulsory elective modules).

Wi-Ings studying in a diploma program can accumulate their credits for their

first management subject (erstes BWL Fach) at our chair. This means they have to pass the basic module and two of the modules from the Vertiefungsstufe 1 and Vertiefungsstufe 2.

Wi-Ings studying in a diploma program can also accumulate their credits for their second management subject (zweites BWL Fach) or as electives.

In this case you have to pass the basics module and either the strategicmanagement module or the international management module.

Students of Business Administration who are enrolled in a diploma program can accumulate their credits for one of their management specialization subjects (SBWL, specialization in a particular discipline of Business Administration) at our chair.

Students with this intention will need to complete the basic module as well as both modules from „Vertiefungsstufe 1“. In addition to that, an oral exam (approx. 20 minutes) is required, which will be conducted after having passed all three modules mentioned above.odu es e o ed abo e

The courses marked green will be held in the summer term. The basics modulewill be held each semester.

One unique detail about our courses: we are offering so-called syllabi for each course.

The syllabi will give you a detailed overview about the overall schedule for each course. They also include the preparation tasks that are required on a weekly

basis and information about required readings.

All students should read the syllabi as a whole at the beginning of each term and iteratively look up the current status once a week. In doing this, you can keep

track of what you should have learned until then and what to do next.

You can download the syllabi as well as all lecture charts from our ISIS platform (www isis tu-berlin de)(www.isis.tu berlin.de).

Please remember that you are required to register for each course you are willing to attend over ISIS.

We also offer reading packages for each of our courses. These packages are stored in our office (H 9167) and can be borrowed for copying by leaving your studentstudent

id card with us. As soon as you return the package to our office we will return your identity card to you.

Our office is open from Monday to Friday 9 – 12 a.m., you can find it in the 9th

floor of the main building, room H 9167.

On following slide we show you how the final grades are composed and when the exams will take place. PS means “prüfungsäquivalente Studienleistung”. This is only an expression for a module, in which you have to pass multiple achievements (case study, written exam).

Composition of the grade:

“PS” is composed of two parts

• Final exam about the courses (Kurse „Multinationale Unternehmen, Erscheinungs-formen und theoretische Perspektiven“ and „International Management: Comparative, Global and Regional Perspectives“) content (Duration: 75min, weighting 70%)

• Participation and presentation of one case study (Duration: 30 min, weighting 30%)

• The final mark will be round-off and directly sent to the “Prüfungsamt”

The grade for the Module results from the weighted average of the respectivepresentations and the exams.

Registration and examination issues

Both domestic students from TU Berlin and foreign exchange students, who

participate in a double-degree-program (Doppeldiplom) at TU Berlin, are required to register both at the examination office as well as on www.isis.tu-berlin.de.

Wi-Ings have to register each module at the “Prüfungsamt” separately.

All modules have to be registered as „Prüfungsrelevante Studienleistungen“ (fordiploma students) or „Prüfungsäquivalente Studienleistungen“ (for bachelor/ master students).

Attention: We have a special deadline for registration at the “Prüfungsamt”!

The deadline will be due on Mai 31st 2011! Unless you have registered in time, y g ,we cannot accept any course achievements.

Wi-Ing diploma students have to note that their overall grade (for „erstes BWLFach“, „zweites BWL Fach“, etc.) will be calculated by mean average of allmodule grades they achieve.

Attention: If you fail a module (not a single assignment!), you have to repeat the entire module.

Your second try has to be within 12 months after your failed exam. The second try needs to be registered at the examination office distinctively.

We offer two options for students who have failed a module:p

a) You may repeat only the written test in a second try. In this case you will write another test in the third week of the following semester and all other grades you achieved in this module will remain the same.

b) You repeat all single tasks of the entire module the next time the module isb) You repeat all single tasks of the entire module the next time the module is offered. Please note that our modules from „Vertiefungsstufe 1“ are only held once in a year. Our basics modules on the other hand are held each semester. If you choose this option, you will have to register at the chair (via ISIS) again.

All foreign exchange students who are studying in a double-degree-program (Doppeldiplom) at TU Berlin need to register at the examination office.

Students from ESCP-EAP Paris, EM Lyon and ESC Toulouse will need to registeras management students (BWL), whereas students from ECP Paris and ENPC Paris will have to register as Industrial Engineering and Management (WiIng) students.

We want to be as fair to all foreign exchange students as we are to students from TU Berlin. Neither of those groups should have an unfair advantage or disadvantage against the other.

The chart above explains differences between foreign exchange students participating in a double-degree program (Doppeldiplom) and those who are not.

Foreign exchange students participating in a double-degree program will be d d f TU B li Th ill d k l d l dtreated as students from TU Berlin. They will need to take complete modules and

cannot opt for substitute tasks (subsequently called „Ersatzleistungen“).

Foreign exchange students, who are not participating in a double-degree program at TU Berlin can opt for a special treatment in specific ways:

At first, foreign exchange students not participating in a double-degree program should take complete modules. However, they may also choose only to participate in the courses taught in English These courses will only be valid for 3participate in the courses taught in English. These courses will only be valid for 3 ECTS.

The written test for these students will only contain the English courses‘ content.

However, students not participating in a double-degree program may choose an „Ersatzleistung“. Students with this intention need to inform our staff until May 31st at the latest.

Attention: You may either write the exam only dealing with the EnglishAttention: You may either write the exam only dealing with the English courses‘ content or you choose the „Ersatzleistung“! You cannot take both options!

All foreign exchange students may answer all questions in English and use a bilingual dictionary. None of these options do release you from the additional assignments like presentations or case studies. 27

Students choosing the „Ersatzleistung“ can skip the written exam, but will need to write a term paper and pass an oral exam. Choosing this option does not affect any presentations which might be compulsory for all students during the course.

The term paper for a complete module should contain at least 15 pages. Furthermore, it should cite at least 10 sources from appropriate academic literature. It can be written either in English or German.

Th ‘ h ld d l i h i f b h i l d d i hThe paper‘s content should deal with topics of both courses included in the module.

The term paper has to be delivered to our research scientists at the date of the

actual written exam for the corresponding module at the latest.

The oral exam will take about 20 minutes. All literature and the courses‘ content is relevant for this exam.

The term paper and the oral exam each account for 35% of the final grade.

You still have to do the team work task including a presentation! The presentation also contributes 30% to your final grade.

All students have to register for our case studies in order to pass the modules.

Procedure:

1. Please send an email to our research scientist until April 17th 2011 at midnight.

For our masters‘ module “International Management” please send an email to heitmann@strategie.tu-berlin.de. In this email you should state three case studies in prioritized order you are interested in.

2. Our research scientists will review all incoming emails and try to provide the best possible match for each student You will receive your final case-study orbest possible match for each student. You will receive your final case study or panel-discussion assignments in the following week.

3. We will be informing all students via email. Please make sure you are registered for your classes on our virtual campus (www.isis.tu-berlin.de) Important: We cannot accept any course achievements of domestic students or foreign exchange students in a double-degree-program unless they have registered at the examination office in time.

Last but not least, some useful information about our written exams

Our tests might be seen as challenging.

All our tests take 75 minutes. The maximum score is 75 points in all tests.

The test configuration for Int. Management is following one:

You may choose between several alternatives in all tests.

We will be offering an extra preparation lesson for our tests each semester. This lesson will not focus on questions regarding the content of our courses, but rather deal with more formal aspects and the configuration of the tests.

Miscellaneous.

There are some requirements for writing a bachelor thesis, master thesis, “Studienarbeit” or diploma thesis at our chair.

- If you intend to write a thesis at our chair, you should have at lease completed one module.

- If you intend to write a bachelor thesis or “Studienarbeit”, you are required to have completed at least the basic module.

- Students willing to write a master thesis or diploma thesis are required to take one additional master program.

Theses can be theory oriented or solve a real business problem. Please reconcile with our research scientists.
