BUILDING SUPPORT FOR ISRAEL FROM COAST TO COAST MAY - AUGUST 2013 DEAR CUFI SUPPORTERS, This past summer has been one of the busiest in CUFI’s history. Our preeminent annual event, the CUFI Washington Summit, came at a time when the Middle East was on fire. During the Summit, more than 4,200 activists from around the country traveled to our nation’s capital to learn about the Biblical, moral, and historical reasons for Christian Zionism, and ask their elected officials to stand with Israel. Summit speakers included Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (live via satellite), Gov. Mike Hucakbee, Israeli Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor, and national radio and television personality Glenn Beck. In addition to these speakers, Summit attendees heard from nine sitting members of congress from both parties including Sen.’s Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham, and Rep.’s Michelle Bachman, Sanford Bishop, and Majority Leader Eric Cantor. In addition to the large plenary sessions, smaller more intimate sessions enabled the audience to ask questions and speak directly with notable scholars including President of the Foundation for Defense Democracies Cliff May, CBN National Security Analyst Erick Stakelbeck, and Executive Director of the American Center for Law and Justice Jordan Sekulow. The three day event concluded with CUFI activists spending a full day on Capitol Hill where they lobbied in support of tough new sanctions against Iran, urged their elected officials to adopt the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2013, and asked Members of Congress to cosponsor legislation calling for a special envoy focused on religious persecution against Christians and other minority communities in the Middle East. One week after the CUFI Washington Summit, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed new sanctions against Iran. And upon the end of the August Congressional, the House also overwhelmingly passed the bill that would create the special envoy to protect religious minorities in the Middle East. CUFI’s annual Washington Summit has become a central component of the effort to ensure a strong U.S.-Israel alliance. Putting your feet to your prayers matters. There is no stronger way to make your voice heard in Congress than to go there and speak with your elected officials. Throughout the summer, we saw Iran continuing to mislead the world in regards to its nuclear program. We bore witness as Israel’s enemies continued to threaten her. And we prayed dearly for the safety of our brothers and sisters in Christ as they suffered at the hands of their neighbors in Egypt and elsewhere in the region. As you’ll see from the discussion of our efforts below, CUFI has a direct impact on each of these issues. We are changing the world for the better by ensuring the greatest country on earth stands with God’s Chosen People and stands up for innocents throughout the Middle East. Dear CUFI SUpporterS,This past summer has been one of the busiest in CUFI’s history.

And upon the end of the August

Congressional, the House also overwhelmingly passed the bill that would create the special envoy to protect religious minorities in the Middle East.

Blessings to you and those you love,

May 16, 2013 Standing With Israel Event Cleveland, OHA joint presentation was made with Mr. David Walker of CUFI on Campus and John Somerville, CUFI Central Region Coordinator, in Cleveland, Ohio. This rather unusual event was to learn and evaluate the Powerhouse Advocacy Training as taught and developed by Mrs. Nila Jennings. The session was designed to be an advocate for Israel within the context of an anti-Israel meeting, as are often found on college campuses. It is a unique method using non-confrontational language, (in a questioning form) which had just been used by the speaker. This is an approach which is not designed to change the speaker’s mind, but to influence the audience to really evaluate what was being proposed by the anti-Israel speaker. The evaluations by the attendees were very positive and we look forward to having this method taught at many future events.

May 16, 2013 CUFI On Campus Standing With Israel Event Cleveland, OH

Verbal Jujutsu – The ever increasing spigot of anti-Semitism against the Jews and Israelis is manifesting more & more on college campuses. In a seminar taught by CUFI City Director, Nila Jennings,

participants learned how to apply top-notch communication tactics to use the opponents force and words against him. The seminar proved to be very effective and proved tons of useful information.

A long line of congregants stayed late into the evening thanking Pastor/Author Victor Styrsky–CUFI Eastern Regional Coordinator and pledging to join the ranks of over 1,300,000 members of CUFI.

June 6, 2013 Pastors’ and Ministry Leaders’ Luncheon Meeting Myrtle Beach, SC

The CUFI Pastor/Leaders’ Luncheon and Middle East Briefing brought out record turnout of Christian leaders and pastors from all throughout the area. The increased growth was due to the involvement of the

local pastors who were part of the 2013 CUFI Pastors’ Israel Trip; and with this strong base of leaders we are now working on the 1st Annual Myrtle Beach Night to Honor Israel set for October 2013. At the conclusion of the luncheon, our new CUFI team had an extraordinary first meeting with Rabbi David Weissman of Temple Shalom, Rabbi Avi Perets of Temple Emanu-El, and Chabad Rabbi, Donin Aizenman. After much conversation they all committed their full participation with the October celebration and will use each of their different newsletters to reach out and invite the greater Jewish community.

Mr. Perkinson heard about CUFI watching television; he then “Googled” us on the internet and found that John Somerville was the Regional Coordinator for Iowa. He called John and they worked out two days when he could be in their western Iowa town. Eric rented a local restaurant for a Saturday morning CUFI Breakfast for Pastors and ministry leaders and the local high school auditorium for a Saturday evening Stand with Israel meeting. Sunday morning found the CUFI message being given at Eric’s church, Faith Christian Fellowship. This just shows how anyone can bring CUFI to their hometown or church easily.

June 19, 2013 Standing With Israel Event Harrodsburg, KY Harrodsburg, the oldest permanent settlement west of the Appalachians was the site of a meeting at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church introducing Christians United For Israel into that historic region. Pastor Wayne Spivey opened and closed the meeting with the most popular Q & A subject about the role Christians should play in the political process. The consensus was that the moral voice of authority should come from the church and synagogues and that should be reflected in Christian activity in the political process. The example of William Wilberforce combining his spiritual beliefs with his political position was used to illustrate how the evil of slavery was ended when belief and political action were combined.

June 20, 2013 Standing With Israel Event Bowling Green, KYThe Hope In Messiah congregation is led by the multi-talented Biblical-Research author, musician, songwriter and practicing attorney Jonathon Sacks. If that wasn’t enough, he also happens to come from a family that includes 19 generations of rabbis. If all those solid credentials make you think he might be a rather stiff academic you’d be wrong. He’s one of the warmest and well-humored leaders we’ve ever met. He made CUFI feel right at home and he fully understands our objectives and purposes.

June 20, 2013 Standing With Israel Event Burgin, KY The night of the 20th of June found Col. John Somerville in the delightful rural community of Burgin in the heart of Mercer County, Kentucky. It was an enjoyable and unique event of Q & A regarding the purposes, objectives and methods of CUFI that was well received by the local clergy. The evening meeting was just as rewarding when special kudos came from a gentleman who attended our meeting on the eve of his 100th birthday. He encouraged us not only by his health and vigor but by his support for Israel… “Because it’s in the Bible…and that’s good enough for me!”

CUFI Summit Brings Together Religious, Political And Military Leaders

In mid-July, Christians United for Israel (CUFI), the nation’s largest pro-Israel organization, held its eighth annual Washington Summit. More than 4,200 activists from around the country traveled to our nation’s capital to learn about the Biblical, moral and historical reasons for Christian Zionism and ask their elected officials to stand with Israel.

The event opened with teaching and worship services on Sunday evening.

The following day, attendees had the opportunity to participate in several breakout sessions with world renowned experts on issues ranging from Iran’s nuclear weapons program, to the U.S.-Israel relationship, to the Biblical reasons Christians stand with the Jewish State.

The setting of these smaller more intimate sessions enabled the audience to ask questions and speak directly with notable scholars including President of the Foundation for Defense Democracies Cliff May, CBN National Security Analyst Erick Stakelbeck, and Executive Director of the American Center for Law and Justice Jordan Sekulow.

Tuesday began with a morning plenary session featuring seven sitting members of congress from across the country and representing both parties. Some, such as Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-MN), focused their remarks on their personal Christian Zionist journey; others, such as Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), discussed the turbulent situation in the Middle East. All were unwavering in their support for Israel.

That afternoon the Summit’s Middle East Briefing began with a live via satellite address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He opened his remarks by thanking CUFI for the group’s rock-solid support of Israel, and went on to warn the crowd about Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions.

“Those weapons aren’t prepared to launch against Israel. They already have missiles that can hit Israel. Those ICBMs are intended for you - to hit the United States and that could happen very soon,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister was followed by several speakers including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Israeli Tourism Minister Dr. Uzi Landau, former Commander of British Forces in Afghanistan Col. Richard Kemp, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Executive Vice Chairman Malcolm Hoenlein, President of American Values Gary Bauer, and Israeli military analyst Maj. Elliot Chodoff (IDF res.).

The Summit’s gala event, a Night to Honor Israel, commenced that evening. CUFI African American Outreach Coordinator Pastor Michael Stevens served as the event’s master-of-ceremonies. He was joined on the stage by several distinguished

speakers: Israeli Ambassador to the UN Ron Prosor, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), national radio and television personality Glenn Beck, and CUFI founder and Chairman Pastor John Hagee.

Prosor focused his comments on the international effort to demonize and delegitimize Israel, and condemned the UN for its fixation with the Jewish State, especially amidst all the suffering that is taking place across the Middle East.

Cruz opened his remarks by asking that God bless CUFI, Israel and the United States. He went on to discuss the broader situation in the Middle East, and noted “Under each and every circumstance the alliance between the United States and Israel must remain completely and entirely unshakeable.”

Beck, who announced during his remarks that we would be personally donating $100,000 to CUFI on Campus, delivered an impassioned speech, commenting on the dark and difficult times in which we live.

“Now is the time to stand, and not just for Israel, but for all of God’s truth. Stand for all of humanity,” Beck said.

Like Netanyahu, Hagee focused portions of his remarks on the threat posed by a nuclear armed Iran. CUFI has repeatedly warned that if the Islamic Republic acquires nuclear weapons, Israel would be facing an existential threat and Iran’s newfound geo-political position would be calamitous for the entire free world.

Addressing the misguided assertions by some in the media that Iran’s new president, Hassan Rouhani, is a “moderate,” Hagee noted “[Rouhani] may walk like a moderate, speak like a moderate, but he is not a moderate.”

Hagee also condemned U.S. pressure on Israel in the context of Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.

“When will the Palestinians be asked to make sacrifices for peace? …How can you make peace with someone who wants to kill you?” Hagee asked.

The Senate is expected to advance the legislation in the fall.
