It was such a good time to live abroad for 5 months. The best
part of this journey is certainly about making new friends
around the world. We dressed up with traditional Bavarian
dress “Dirndl” in Munich, which German people still wear it
for the beer festivals and the other important traditional
festivals nowadays. We all lived together and helped each
other out and until now we still keep in touch and a few of
them even came to visit me in Hong Kong!

OverviewAt the FB Career Resources Centre, students have access to references on internship and career planning. They get up-to-date career information online, read company brochures and business newspapers/magazines. Every year, more than 200 undergraduates go on student exchange. They can find details of the academic programmes offered by over 100 exchange partners at the Centre.

Enabling Development through Guidance and Equipping (EDGE)EDGE widens students’ exposure and enhances their all-round development through training activities, business competitions, case analysis, product / service promotion, etc. It prepares them for internship before graduation.

WIE RequirementWork-Integrated Education (WIE) is a compulsory component of our BBA curriculum with the aim of equipping students with real-world work experience. They integrate academic knowledge with business practice and learn in the workplace before graduation.

Requirements
A “Pass” in the subject FB3001 Work-Integrated Education requires successfully completion of at least 300 hours of placement in one or more organisations OR participation in one or more eligible WIE activities before graduation.
WIE is recorded as “Other Fulfillment” in the SRS System.
A “Pass” in the subject FB3002 Work-Integrated Education requires successfully completion of at least 100 hours of placement in one or more organisations OR participation in one or more eligible WIE activities before graduation.
WIE is recorded as “Other Fulfillment” in the SRS System.

• At least 100 hours or more for each placement.
• Up to 30 hours of approved WIE training can be counted towards WIE.

Before placement 1. Prepare a Resume
• Join a resume writing workshop of the FB EDGE Programme or hosted by the University’s CAPS office.
2. Secure an internship
• Take the initiative to find an internship. Make use of available resources:
- FB WIE Online System (http://www.fb.polyu.edu.hk/wieonline)
- School/Department WIE Offices
- CAPS Office (http://www.polyu.edu.hk/caps/)
- JIJIS website (https://www.jijis.org.hk/)
- Job search websites, newspapers, etc.
3. Require employment contract and/or employment verification documentation from internship offering organization.
4. Seek advices from WIE Coordinator before confirmation / commencement of an internship.
5. Submit the completed WIE Form F6 to School/Department WIE Administrator for seeking prior endorsement for any self-sourced/department-sourced placement from WIE Coordinator before confirmation to any internship (see sample form enclosed)
During placement 6. Find support from FB/Department WIE Offices and WIE Coordinators
• For any matters, such as extension of internship period, statutory minimum wage, MPF, insurance, or any conflict with employer.
After placement 7. Complete self-evaluation via FB WIE Online System within 7 days of placement completion.
8. Complete the employer evaluation WIE Form F15 (see sample form enclosed) and submit to School/Department WIE Offices within 7 days of placement completion.
How to claim WIE hours?
• Submit all the WIE forms (to FB WIE Office or Department WIE Offices) and do online self-evaluation via FB WIE Online System within 1 week of the internship completion.
• Submit on time if you are graduating. Note that only claim forms submitted before the end of the last teaching week of a semester will be processed in that semester. Last teaching week of a semester refers to :
- Week 13 for Semester 1 and 2
- Week 7 for Semester 3 (Summer Semester)

WIE Transcript
What is a WIE Transcript?WIE Transcript is an official record issued by the Office of Careers and Placement Services (CAPS) to enrich graduates’ portfolios and facilitate their job search. It shows the details of each endorsed WIE activity (including name of company/organisation, location, duration, position held, etc.) and/or work-based learning activity of a graduate.
When is the WIE Transcript issued?WIE Transcript, as an endorsement of a student’s fulfillment of WIE requirements, will only be issued after the student is granted graduate status. Please refer to CAPS news and emails for details.

Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF)www.mpfa.org.hkIf there is an employment relationship between the student and the offering organisation for a continuous period of not less than 60 days, the offering organisation is required to enrol the student into an MPF scheme.

Students taking local or offshore internships are covered worldwide under the University’s Group Personal Accident Insurance Scheme for up to HK$500,000. For offshore internships, students are encouraged to arrange additional travel insurance and medical protection.
PRC students who reside AND work in Mainland China are NOT covered within the territory of China.

Compensation and/or benefits are granted solely at the company/organization’s discretion.
Please note that Statutory Minimum Wage (SMW) does not apply to student interns as well as work experience students during a period of exempt student employment. Also, SMW does not apply to interns/students with no employment relationship with the host organisation or company.

Non-local students holding valid “No Objection Letters” can legally take up placements in Hong Kong.
FB BBA non-local students
The Hong Kong Immigration Department (IMMD) should issue two “No Objection Letters” when our students enter Hong Kong:
(1) “No Objection Letter” valids for 4 years (same as normal study period of BBA programme)
• Student can take up part-time on-campus and summer employment
(2) “No Objection Letter” valids for 1 year
• Student can take up study/curriculum-related internship. This will be issued only to student who have not reached the limit set for taking up internship, i.e. one year, or one-third of the normal duration of the programme, whichever is shorter.

Non-local fresh graduates can apply to stay/work in the HKSAR for a maximum period of 12 months under the “Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates” (IANG) Scheme. Students who have yet obtained their Certification of Award can apply to the Hong Kong Immigration Department by providing the following documents.

(2) Exam Result Notification (ERN)
(3) Testimonial from the institution confirming students’ graduation
The application takes about 4 weeks to process upon receipt of all the required documents.
No placement should be done before the approval of IANG.
WarningTo encourage a RESPONSIBLE ATTITUDE towards work, FB students will receive a warning letter under the following conditions:
• Absent from an interview/internship without valid reason or prior notification (at least 1 day in advance)
• Late for an interview/internship without prior notification
• Quit WIE internship without valid reason
• Poor work performance (as assessed by supervisor)
• Reject an internship/interview offer without valid reason
Warned students WILL NOT be considered for any Faculty/Department-sourced WIE placement for two consecutive semesters.

FB Student Exchange ProgrammePolyU Student Exchange Programme supports the all-round development of students, particularly with greater exposure to different cultures.
Outbound Exchange ProgrammeWe have outbound exchange places at (1) Institutional Level and (2) Faculty Level.
(1) Institutional Level – application open to all PolyU full-time undergraduates. The International Student Exchange Programme (Overseas) is coordinated by the International Affairs Office (IAO) (www.polyu.edu.hk/iao/) and the Student Exchange Programme (Chinese Mainland & Taiwan) is coordinated by the Chinese Mainland Affairs Office (CMAO) (www.polyu.edu.hk/cmao/). FB Advanced Competition Club
Advanced Competition Club (ACC) helps outstanding students unlock their potential and deliver convincing performance in local and international competitions. Faculty members act as coaches to help them use hard tools and soft skills, work as teams, maximize their strengths and succeed in contests.
Objectives• It promotes student creativities, business analytical skills, business venture creations and provides
an opportunity for business students to get feedback from competitions to improve themselves.
• It helps students to source funding from local and overseas donors, seed funding organizations, VCs and investors for business venture.
• Through the competitions that helps students to prepare for a career in business.
• Students will benefit from the learning opportunities available at the competitions and will come away from the experience with a sense of accomplishment.
Major Activities:• A series of coaching, training and workshops are designed to help students work best in achieving good
results in prestigious local HK, mainland Chinese, Asian and International business competitions.
• By the large number of business competitions every year, invest the resources on the most popular 8-10 business competitions.
• Develop a good mechanism to recruit and train students for the competitions. Coaching, training and workshop can be provided by internal and external professions.
• Explore possible collaboration opportunities with universities, government bodies and private sectors as those units can provide extra resource to keep the winning entrepreneurship projects running.
• Provide opportunities for students to interact with entrepreneurs and advisors throughout the semesters. It allows students to quickly get in touch with external real business environment. It prepares students to develop a long-term and valuable relationship with a key mentor or team of mentors.
• The case analysis workshops will be arranged for the case competitions participants.

Overview• Students join community service through
– FB CARES (Faculty of Business • Community • Awareness • Readiness • Engagement • Services)
– Agency for Volunteer Service (AVS)
– Self-initiated projects
• FB CARES aims at broadening students’ understanding of the community through voluntary service, encouraging them to share social responsibility and preparing them to be all-round professionals. The Following listed projects are some on-going projects which need your support.
– Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U), initiated by President Clinton in 2007, is a community of young leaders who take concrete steps to solve new challenges worldwide. It has five foci, namely Education, Environment and Climate Change, Peace and Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, and Public Health. PolyU’s Faculty of Business is the first Asian member. Students are welcome to initiate their new ideas.
– PolyU’s Wellness Clinic, operated by students from the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and the Faculty of Business, is where students gain clinic experience and develop communication, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. The clinic is aimed mainly at providing preventive health services, including screening and other physical examinations as well as health education, such as promoting good habits. The first programme is targeted at elderly with fall risks, and upcoming will be the occupational health programme for workforce.
– ORBIS, cooperated with us on various projects to promote the awareness of ORBIS in Hong Kong, including Student Ambassador Campaign, Blind Tour and Blindfold Lunch Campaign.

Financial Subsidy Scheme for offshore Service-Learning projectsThe University has set up the “Financial Subsidy Scheme for Offshore Service-Learning Projects” under the administration of the Office of Service Learning (OSL). It aims to support students who are interested in participating in offshore Service-Learning projects and have real financial difficulties for the trip. It is eligible for all full-time UGC-funded undergraduate students who are:
• taking the credit-bearing service-learning-subject-related offshore projects. (Students joining pilot projects will only be considered under very special circumstances.); AND
• receiving over half of government grant or loan (i.e. the Tertiary Student Finance Scheme – Publicly-funded Programmes (TSFS); and/or have demonstrable financial difficulties in paying the trip fee, for example: receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA), or family member has a long-term / serious illness;
AND
• taking the first credit-bearing service-learning subject.

The Dean’s List is an initiative of the Faculty of Business to recognise students with outstanding academic performance.
Dean’s List
Dean’s List Criteria (subject to review annually):1. Students who are ranked top 10% by year GPA of the total student
population across all undergraduate programmes in the Faculty and with a year GPA of at least 3.5 in a year of study (including Semester 3, if any) will be placed on the List regardless of their programme and year.
2. Minimum credit attainment:
– 27 credits (full-time students) (at least 15 credits should be attained in PolyU)
– 15 credits (part-time students)
3. Credits transferred from non-PolyU programmes and student exchange programmes will be counted in the yearly credit attainment.
4. All final year students with yearly GPA ≥ 3.5 and an award with 2nd Class Honours (Division 1) or upper will be included on the Dean’s List regardless of credit attainment in the final year.
5. Students who have been involved in disciplinary action will not be eligible for the Dean’s List.
Award:• Certificate of Honour, which will be recorded on the transcript of
study.

Centre Features:• Three multimedia studios with high-tech equipment as well
as teaching and learning software
• A common area for project activities and group discussion
Multimedia Resource Centre Rules and Guidelines1. No games or gambling.
2. No eating or drinking, unless specifically authorised.
3. No unauthorised entry into computer classrooms while class is in progress.
4. Do not mark, deface, damage, misplace, remove or destroy the Centre’s materials, equipment or property.
5. Do not leave personal belongings unattended. Report property loss to Campus Security Control Office.
6. Report accidents and damage to equipment immediately to Centre staff or security guards.
7. Back up your data. Files saved in the Centre’s computers will be permanently erased after reboot or shutdown.
8. Leave the Centre as requested by Centre staff or security guards.
9. The Centre reserves the right to restrict access to facilities without prior notice.
