DEFINING A MINIMUM VIABLE PRODUCT

• “A minimum viable product is “that product which has just those features and no more that allows you to ship a product that early adopters see and, at least some of whom resonate with, pay you money for, and start to give you feedback on”.

• “A MVP is that version of a new product which allows a team to collect the maximum amount of validated learning about customers with the least effort.”

• A Minimum Viable Product is the smallest thing you can build that delivers customer value (and as a bonus captures some of that value back).

QUESTION EVERYTHING

• Do we have to launch now?

• What are the Pros and Cons of now vs later?

• Business sense? Show me.

• Who sustains as you build the full product?

• VC pressure?

• Parent company?

PRODUCT GOALS

• Products are designed to solve a problem

• Does your MVP solve that problem?

• Does your MVP solve at least some of them?

• Is it pulling you away from the original vision?

“If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”

- Reid Hoffman, found of LinkedIn

IDEAS ALONG THE WAY

• Resources - Grow the team (budget constraints)

• Time – Long hours (burn out)

• Expectations - Push the launch date (pressure from management)

• PIVOT - Find a segment that could use what we could build

• Boots on the ground

WHERE WE GO NEXT

• Use early adopters as beta or extended beta period

• Look back on features/functions cut

• Add into road map based on user consumer feedback

SHARING IS CARING!

Who has a story, experience, or wants to vent about their experience working in an MVP

environment?

Thank you!
