Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia is celebrating 25 Years of Engagement with India through various events and activities during the week of 11th to 15th March 2019. This International Conference is a part of these celebrations and is being organized Deakin-IITM Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing in association with Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), Chennai. This event in Chennai is to celebrate the partnerships established in this part of India which have successfully impacted Deakin’s journey in India. Advanced Manufacturing offers a wide range of new technology and techniques that enable’s one to address increasingly demanding customers in the context of an extremely competitive global marketplace. The conference will focus on understanding future trends in additive manufacturing, emerging materials and manufacturing methods, manufacturing Industry 4.0, Integrating advanced design and visualization techniques into manufacturing. Subject experts from Deakin University and IIT Madras will be the speakers in this conference. Deakin University and IIT Madras have established the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials and Manufacturing (CoE-AMM) at IIT Madras in March 2018. This is the first bilateral CoE between IITM with another overseas institution. The CoE is engaged in R&D activities in the broad areas of advanced materials such as high entropy alloys, light alloys, composites, functional materials, nano materials and advances in manufacturing such as additive manufacturing. Peter Coleman Trade Commissioner – Mumbai and Sri Lanka, Australian Trade and Investment Commission As Trade Commissioner, Peter leads education team across South Asia and manages a range of post operations in Mumbai and Sri Lanka. Peter has operated in several offshore locations and holds significant in-country experience in China, the United States and India. Before posting to Mumbai, Peter was part of a small team representing the Australian Trade and Investment Commission’s offshore network into Canberra’s systems of government. The team represented 33 Austrade locations across five regions, including South Asia; Russia and CIS; Latin America; Sub-Saharan Africa; and Middle East North Africa.

Previously Peter was lead negotiator for an AU$20 million portfolio of technical clean energy cooperation agreements with China’s central government and leading state-owned entities on behalf of Australia’s Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism. Peter has 10 years’ project and strategy experience across the Australian Government and holds a Master of International Affairs from the Australian National University, with a Bachelor of Economics and Diploma of Modern Language (Mandarin) from the University of Western Australia. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Professor Bhaskar Ramamurthi Director, Indian Institute of Technology Madras Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi got his B. Tech in Electronics from IIT Madras in 1980, and his M.S. and PhD is in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara, in 1982 and 1985 respectively. After working at AT&T Bell Laboratories for a couple of years, he joined the faculty of IIT Madras, his alma mater, in 1986. He took over as Director, IIT Madras in September 2011.

His areas of specialization are Communications and Signal Processing. His research work is in Wireless Networks, Modulation, Wireless Data, and Audio and Video Compression. He was awarded the University of California Regents Fellowship during his doctoral studies. He is a founding member of the TeNeT group of IIT Madras, active in developing telecom and networking technologies, and incubating companies to develop and market products based on these. He is currently also honorary Director of the Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology, a public-private initiative at the IIT-M Research Park to make India a wireless technology leader. He is on the Board of Oil India Ltd. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is also an Honorary Fellow of the International Medical Sciences Academy. He was awarded the Vasvik Award for Electronic Sciences and Technology for the year 2000,

Professor Jane den Hollander AO Vice-Chancellor and President, Deakin University Professor Jane den Hollander AO has been Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University since July 2010. At Deakin, Professor den Hollander introduced LIVE the future, an aspiration for Deakin to drive the digital frontier in higher education, harnessing the power, opportunity and reach of new and emerging technologies in all that it does. Professor den Hollander holds a BSc (Honours) First Class in Zoology

and a Master of Science degree from Wits University, Johannesburg. Her PhD is from the University of Wales, Cardiff. Professor den Hollander is a Director of UniSuper Limited and Trustee, Chair of Skilling the Bay (a Victorian Government initiative), a member of the Premier's Jobs and Investment Panel and a member of the VERNet Board (Victorian Education and Research Network). Prior to taking up her appointment as Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, Professor den Hollander was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Curtin University in Western Australia. Ms Susan Grace Australian Consul-General in Chennai

Ms Grace is a career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was most recently Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Abu Dhabi. In Canberra, positions she has held include Director, Gulf States Section and Director, Counter-Terrorism Policy Section. She has previously served overseas as Ambassador to Nepal; Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, Tehran and First Secretary, Australian High Commission, New Delhi.

Ms Grace holds a Master of International Law from the Australian National University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Melbourne University.

Professor B S Murty Institute Professor and Girija R. Muralidharan Chair Professor, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras Prof. B.S. Murty is an Institute Professor and Girija & R. Muralidharan Chair Professor at the department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras, India. He obtained his PhD (1992) from IISc, Bangalore. After serving at IIT Kharagpur for 12 years, he has been a Professor at IIT Madras since 2004. He is also currently an Adjunct Professor at Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada since 2011 and an Associate faculty of School of Engineering, University of British Columbia, Canada since 2016.

His fields of interests are High Entropy Alloys, Nanocrystalline materials and nanocomposites, bulk metallic glasses, grain refinement and modification of Al alloys, Al based composites, in-situ composites, non-equilibrium processing, particulate technologies, thermodynamics and kinetics of phase transformations, transmission electron microscopy, atom probe tomography. He has authored above 385 journal publications. He has published 3 books, namely, Text Book on Nanoscience and nanotechnology, High Entropy Alloys and High-energy Ball Milled Nanocrystalline Aluminium Alloys. He has supervised 36 PhDs and 17 PhDs are ongoing. He has completed over 55 sponsored research projects and currently handing 11 projects and filed 18 patents. His main research contributions are: He has pioneered the field of non-equilibrium processing of materials by mechanical alloying. He has not only developed advanced materials using this route, but also has made key contributions to the development of theoretical frame work in this field. He has developed a wide variety of Nano materials with exceptional structural and functional properties and demonstrated their technological viability. He has also pioneered the field of high entropy alloys from India, which are exciting new class of materials with immense application potential. He has made significant contributions to the field of bulk metallic glasses including developing thermodynamic models for predicting glass forming ability. His group is the first in India to successfully develop a technology for the production grain refiners for Aluminium and demonstrate their superiority over the imported ones. Under his leadership a National Facility for Atom Probe Tomography has been set up at IIT Madras with a remotely operable Local Electrode Atom Probe (LEAP) (first such facility globally) that can characterize materials in 3D at the atomic scale.

Professor Julie Owens Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Office of DVC (Research), Deakin University Professor Julie Owens is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research at Deakin University leading a portfolio that includes responsibility for: • Deakin Research • Deakin Research Innovations • Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) • Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation (IISRI) • Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute (A²I²) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research provides academic leadership to

advance Deakin’s distinctive research and research training both nationally and internationally. This includes research development, industry-focused research and commercialization and research promotion. Prof Owens is Deputy Vice Chancellor at Deakin University. Her role is to provide academic leadership to advance Deakin’s distinctive research and research training both nationally and internationally. This includes research development, industry-focused research and commercialization and research promotion. Prior to her appointment in 2018, she was Pro Vice Chancellor Research Strategy at University of Adelaide. Her previous roles there also included Associate Dean Research in Faculties of Sciences and Health Sciences, Head of School of Pediatrics and Reproductive Health and Department of Physiology. Professor Peter Hodgson Vice President, Industry Engagement, Innovation & Commercialization, Office of DVC (Research), Deakin University Professor Hodgson was the founding Director of the Institute of Frontier Materials at Deakin University and played a key role in Deakin’s research engagement with the automotive sector, including the FAST and STAMP programs with Ford and suppliers. He has over 700 papers in metals related research with a large fraction devoted to the development and application of Advanced High Strength Steels for the auto sector.

He has also worked closely with start-up companies and spin offs. He has been an ARC Federation Fellow and Laureate Fellow, is a Fellow of ATSE and has several international awards. Many of his students and post docs have gone onto leadership roles in both academia and industry.

Dr Raghuvir Pai Professor, Department of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology Prof. Raghuvir Pai had his primary and secondary education in Manipal and bachelor’s in mechanical engineering in 1982 from Manipal Institute of Technology. He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at MIT, Manipal as lecturer in the same year. Also, he is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, India. Published 100

research papers in Journals, International and National conferences. Supervised 07 doctoral students in Tribology, Water lubricated bearings, Metal Matrix Composites and FSI of stenosed artery. Currently supervising 05 Ph. D. students in the area of Water Lubricated Bearings, Externally adjustable bearings, FSI of stenosed artery and TKA of Knee joint. He was also principal investigator for industry sponsored projects by Philips, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Uni Tools Ltd & consultant for Mareatai Power Station (New Zealand), M/s Minter Allison, Australia, GE JFWTC Global Research Centre, Bangalore. He Co-authored a text book on Machine Design "MACHINE DESIGN- THEORY and PROBLEMS" with two of his colleagues. Associate Professor Daniel Fabijanic Associate Professor (Research), Institute for Frontier Materials, Deakin University Dr Fabijanic's research has been focused on the development novel duplex surface treatments for ferrous metals. Significant emphasis has been on the commercialization of a patented low temperature duplex surface treatment for aluminium metal forming tooling. Other current research is centered on fluid bed reactor chemical vapour deposition processes (FBR-CVD) for the treatment of metal surfaces.

Future research aims to expand the fluidized bed technology platform to include the surface engineering of light metals, coating of powders and fibres, and recycling of materials.

Professor G.D. Janaki Ram Professor, Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, IIT Madras Dr. G.D. Janaki Ram works in the broad fields of welding and additive manufacturing. From 1998 to 2005, Dr. Janaki Ram served as a Scientist in Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (Materials), DRDO. In 2005, he went to Utah State University, USA, for his post-doctoral work in additive manufacturing. He returned to India in 2008 to begin a faculty position at IIT Madras. From July 2014 to March 2015, Dr. Janaki Ram worked as a Visiting

Professor in the University of Louisville, USA. Over the past ten years, he has worked on several sponsored research projects and taught courses in the fields of materials joining and additive manufacturing. Mr Manish Tak

Scientist, ARCI Mr. Manish Tak is associated with ARCI, Hyderabad, India as a Scientist since 2006. He completed his M.Tech. in Laser Science and Applications from Devi Ahilya University Indore and he also work in industry for 2 years for design and development of Laser cutting machines. His current research interests are Laser cladding, laser hardening and repair & refurbishment using DED process. He has completed various industrial projects energy sector, automotive sector and aerospace sector.

Currently he is pursuing his PhD from Deakin University under the supervision of Prof. Bernald Rolfe on refurbishment of Ti-alloy component for aero-engine. He has 12 papers in journals and conferences, 5 patents and 1 book chapter to his credit. Dr Matthias Weiss Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Frontier Materials, Deakin University Dr Weiss has been involved in sheet metal forming research for the last 8 years and has managed and expanded the sheet material testing facilities at IFM since 2003. His current research focus is the experimental and numerical investigation of the behaviour of sheet materials in forming. This includes the development of advanced material models and testing methods to understand the effect of

microstructure on formability and to improve the representation of material behaviour in numerical models. Over the last two years Dr Weiss has established, at the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), one of the world's largest roll forming research groups (including five PhD students) that includes Australia`s most advanced roll forming research facility. Prof Bernard Rolfe Professor of Advanced Manufacturing, School of Engineering, Faculty of Science Engineering & Built Environment, Deakin University Prof Bernard Rolfe is currently a Professor (Advanced Manufacturing) in the School of Engineering at Deakin University. He was the Associate Head of School (Research) from 2014-2018, responsible for growing research and research culture in the School. During his leadership the School tripled its quality journal outputs per staff member, and almost doubled

income and PhD numbers. His qualifications include a combined Economics and Engineering degree with honours in 1995 from the Australian National University (ANU), and a PhD in Advanced Manufacturing (ANU) in 2002. His research group has spent 20 years working on the use of advanced metals in sheet forming primarily for the automotive sector. He was the theme leader for light weighting at the Australian Automotive Cooperative Research Centre (2014-2017), and he is currently on the Academic Advisory Board for the International Federation of Automotive Engineering. Bernard's current research focus is the design and forming of light weight structures, including the development of better constitutive models for materials. He is also investigating design techniques for light weighting using additive manufacturing. Bernard has received four Vice Chancellor awards and has been part of over fifteen successful nationally competitive large research grants, totaling over AUD $22 million in awarded funds. Professor Arkady Zaslavsky Professor of Distributed Systems and Security, School of Information Technology, Faculty of Science Engineering & Built Environment, Deakin University

Dr Zaslavsky is a Professor of Distributed Systems & Security at Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia. Arkady is leading and participating in R&D projects in Internet of Things, mobile analytics and context-awareness science areas. He is a technical leader of the EU Horizon-2020 project bIoTope – building IoT Open Innovation Ecosystem for connected smart objects.

Professor Arkady Zaslavsky holds Adjunct-Professorship appointments with several Australian and International universities, including UNSW, La Trobe University, University of Luxembourg and ITMO University, St Petersburg. Arkady Zaslavsky has published more than 400 research publications throughout his professional career and supervised to completion more than 40 PhD students. Dr K Anand Materials & Manufacturing COE Deakin University – IIT Madras K. Anand recently joined the IIT-M Deakin University team as the Chief Manager for the Materials & Manufacturing COE. And brings in nearly three decades of Industrial R&D experience from leading organizations in the world. Prior to joining us Anand was a technology mentor working for GE Power in the Chief Engineers office as Consulting Engineer, supporting materials and process engineering and other disciplines, in

GE’s technology Centre in Bangalore India. He continues to be an industry mentor in the High Entropy Alloys program carried out at IIT-M, Deakin and IISc. He has played a key role in bringing together a joint Indo-US consortium to develop disruptive technologies in Solar Energy. Anand has been part of the GE India technology center since Jan 2000 and was part of the start-up team leading research activities in Metallurgy as a Manager at GE Global Research in Bangalore. Anand led cutting edge research activities in materials for aviation, energy, oil & gas and water technologies, with many innovations being part of the GE products. He and mentored and groomed several GE leaders. Anand is an author in over 50 filed patents. Anand started his career in industrial research with GE Aircraft Engines, Cincinnati, USA, focused on wear and clearance control coatings for commercial engines, between 1990 and 1993. Anand relocated to India in 1994 assuming various positions between 1994 and 2000, including Praxair Surface Technologies in Business Development for India and South East Asia. Anand completed his BS degree in 1981 from Indian Institute of Science in Metallurgy, Masters from IIT – Madras in Metallurgical Engineering in 1983, PhD from North Carolina State University in Materials Science and Engineering in 1987. Post PhD Anand worked in the University of Notre Dame in Materials Science till 1990 before joining GE Aviation. His research work focused on sliding wear and solid particle erosion.
