The Bliss Murders
By

Mary stared blankly at the T.V., compulsively twirling
her long golden curls. With more pressing concerns on her mind,
she wasn’t paying attention to what was flashing across the screen.
She knew the answer would be no, but she looked over at her
Aunt Jenny anyway and asked,
“Aunt Jenny, I really need to get some air. Please, I know
you worry about me, but I just want to take a short walk to clear
my head. I’ll be fine. Can I, please?”
“Mary, why don’t I take a walk with you?” she finally re-
plied, after taking several sips from her glass of chardonnay. “After
what happened to your parents, I can’t help but worry and I
don’t want you out all by yourself.”
“You’re right.” Mary knew there was no sense in pushing
it. Aunt jenny wasn’t about to let her go out. “You know, actually I
am a little tired. Maybe tomorrow we can go out for a while.”
“You got a deal. I’m a little tired myself....
Mary, I know it’s been a harrowing week for you, and I want you
to know, I’m here for you, anytime.”
“Thanks Aunt Jenny.”
Mary went to her bed, pretending to go to sleep, as she patiently
waited for Aunt Jenny to pass out.
It was inevitable after Jenny con-
sumed nearly the entire bottle of
chardonnay. She needed to get out
of there. Mary knew he was watch-
ing her, waiting to catch her alone.
From the elegant bay windows of
the hotel suite, the tall threatening
figure lurked outside, trying to hide
his presence behind trees, cars, and
buildings. She needed to take care
of this this, of him.
Finally! Mary thought as she heard the obnoxious snoring com-
ing from the bed next to hers. She covered her tiny figure with a black
t-shirt and jean skirt, and slipped her feet into the tennis shoes. Grabbing
her backpack, she quietly slipped out of the hotel room, determined to
get out. She ran across the weakly lit parking lot of Meyers Inn, and
made her way to the park across the street. The clouds began to turn gray
as lightning cut through the evening sky. A strong aroma of rain
consumed the unusually warm autumn evening. As she walked towards
the iron bench hidden among the elm trees, she noticed the man
approaching her in a suspicious manner.
She giggled
as Henry’s
eyes filled
with horror.

It was nearly 80 degrees outside yet the man wore a sweat jacket
with the hood pulled over his head, partially blocking his face. Mary
didn’t stop or slow down. She wasn’t about to do that. She knew exactly
who it the man was, it was Henry Mason. Although she never personally
met him, she had seen him around over the years. Her adrenaline
pumping and heart racing, she finally met him face to face.
“Mary, I need to talk to you.” Henry said cautiously, not know-
ing how she would react. “I need you to know I had nothing to do with
what happened to your parents. I swear....”
Before he could finish, Mary pulled out a sharp surgical scalpel
from the pocket of her jean skirt and stabbed the man in the groin. She
giggled as Henry’s eyes filled with horror.
“Why? Why are you doing this?!” Henry screamed out, moving
his hands down to cover the injured area.
“Because I can, you idiot.” Mary replied in an unusually, calm
matter as she raised the scalpel one last time and jabbed it in to his neck.
Her bold, blue eyes twinkled with captivation.
She enjoyed watching the life drain out of his body. How
exhilarating, she thought! She pulled out the broach her Mother gave her
held it in her opposite hand. It was a good luck charm of sorts. She was
reluctant to leave the scene, fascination withstanding, but knew it was
time to go. Mary grabbed the backpack stuffed with extra clothing and
quickly cleaned up in the park facility, then made her way back to the
hotel room. Alibi set.

Walking up that beaten path
It's enough to make me laugh
The bitter memories flood my mind
Time had started to unwind
You beat me down
Down to the ground
Feeling like a man
As I lay bruised under your hand

Her Revenge
By
Kimberly Brown
No one would believe
How you make me want to heave
But, now the memories fade away
As I remember the day
A smile creeps upon my lips
And with a sway of my hips
I turn around, done remembering the day
The day, I took your life away
From everyone at Deadly
Delusions Magazine, Have a safe
and happy Halloween!
