SecoBloc OEM modules are designed and manufactured with advanced technology and have been comprehensively and successfully type-tested.

Designed specifically for use by OEM Switchgear manufacturers building IEEE metal-clad designs, SecoBloc OEM modules offer greater configuration flexibility when compared to traditional full height sections.

SecoBloc modules are rated for 5kV and 15kV applications, 1200A to 3000A and up to 40kA short circuit rating. SecoBloc modules are designed to house our IEEE rated SecoVac Vacuum Circuit Breakers.

Automatic ShuttersThe SecoBloc Metal-clad OEM blocs are equipped with grounded metal shutters in front of the primary bushings, automatically operated by circuit breaker movement. When the circuit breaker is racked out to the Test or Disconnect positions, the shutters automatically close to isolate the fixed primary contacts.

SecoVac Circuit BreakerThe SecoVac Vacuum Circuit Breaker has been tested to the 2014 IEEE standards, including continuous current, short circuit and short-time current, capacitive switching and endurance.

SecoVac MechanismThe SecoVac Vacuum Circuit Breaker utilizes a compact, spring charged operating mechanism. The open and close mechanisms are combined into a single, small, easily replaceable module. Type testing results demonstrate SecoVac will operate well beyond the IEEE standards requirement of 10,000 operations.

Built to the Highest Quality StandardsSecoBloc is designed and fully third-party type tested to the 2014 IEEE standards. It utilizes GE’s latest SecoVac vacuum circuit breaker, also third-party tested to applicable IEEE standards. Using GE’s state-of-the-art technology, and manufactured in accordance with the highest quality standards, our engineers have integrated core technologies. These technologies such as circuit breaker and mechanism design, vacuum arc control technology, insulation technology and electrical field control and analysis combine to build a highly reliable and compact system. SecoBloc benefits from GE’s best medium voltage switchgear design practices.

Construction Type and IP RatingSecoBloc is designed and constructed to meet the requirements of IEEE C37.20.2 for indoor installations. This same construction provides an IEC IP rating for SecoBloc of IP43. The IP43 rating translates to a module that provides protection against ingress of foreign objects equal or greater than 1 mm and additionally it provides some protection against ingress of spraying water, up to a 60 degree angle from vertical. It is not to be considered suitable for outdoor, unless installed in a suitable/tested splash proof or outdoor enclosure provided by the OEM/panelbuilder. It is the OEM/panelbuilders responsibility to test and make sure the final equipment satisfies, ANSI construction and any other requirements.

Safety and ReliabilitySecoBloc is designed with a number of interlocking systems to help prevent misoperation:

• The circuit breakers can only be moved from test to connect position and vice versa with the circuit breaker opened.

• The secondary plug can be inserted or removed only when the circuit breaker is in the test position.

• The circuit breaker cannot be closed when it is in-between the connected, test or disconnected positions.

• When the circuit breaker is moved from the connect position, the metal shutters will close automatically.

Technical Characteristics

Storage ConditionsIn order to retain all of the functional unit’s qualities when stored for prolonged periods, GE recommends that the equipment be stored in its original packaging, in dry conditions sheltered from the sun and rain between 5°F (-15°C) and 104°F (+40°C).

Normal Operating ConditionsSecoBloc is indoor switchgear per IEEE Standards:

Altitude

• Maximum: 3300ft (1000 m) a.s.l.

• High Altitude: At altitudes above 3300ft (1000m), consult IEEE C37.20.2 for derating factors applicable to dielectric and current values.

Construction• Indoor construction, IP43

• All metal surfaces in the panels are painted or plated for corrosion protection

• Panels are produced using hot dipped galvanized sheet steel

Special Operating and Climatic ConditionsSecoBloc is suitable for indoor installations with NEMA 1/12 enclosures or in outdoor installations with added NEMA 3R /4/4X enclosures according to NEMA 250 standard. Special operating conditions must be discussed with GE in advance

For example: At site altitudes above 1000m, the effects of the reduction in density of the air on the dielectric properties must be taken into account. Increased ambient temperatures must be compensated for in the design of the busbar as well as the withdrawable parts; otherwise the current carrying capacity will be reduced. Fitting additional ventilation facilities can assist heat dissipation in the assembled switchgear.

When the assembled switchgear is operated in areas with high humidity and/or major rapid temperature fluctuations, there is a risk of condensation. Preventative action (e.g. fitting an electric heater) must be taken in consultation with the manufacturer to avoid the condensation and any resulting corrosion or other adverse effects.
